The days were beginning to get colder and the nights longer, but none of this really bothered the young she-cat as she padded along on silent paws towards her destination. She wanted to do something to surprise Tinytail before their next lesson and figured the best way to do that would be to show her something she was good at. Her thick fur kept her warm and she did love to swim, so going frog hunting was a good idea as far as she was concerned. So she ignore what cold did seep through in the cool morning air even as her breath misted before her eyes as if to prove a point. She didn't care though, she was getting that frog if it was the last thing she did. She'd show Tinytail that she was at least capable of helping with the prey pile even only a little. It would be good to have something in common for once with her Mentor.
Amber eyes lit with determination as she finally reached her destination. Many cats were probably staying well away from the Muddy Pools because it was a more difficult place to hunt from, but Squirrelpaw enjoyed the challenge of it honestly. Besides...if she was to make a place for herself in the clan, she had to prove she had something to offer. Maybe she would even get praised again for her efforts to improve herself. It made her smile happily; secure now in the knowledge that she was living her life in a way that others could be proud of. She was so much gentler than many of her clanmates, but that didn't mean she couldn't be worth just as much. Dimstar actually hearing her out had gone a long way towards helping her be more confident in expressing herself.
The memory had her grinning like an idiot before she pushed the childish emotions away and trotted into the cold mud with determined strides. Her stance shifted into something much more still and her eyes locked forward as she scented about for the prey she'd come for. Her lean body was already caked in mud but she didn't care and didn't move a muscle as she listened for the familiar sound of croaking. Hearing it over to her left she pounced; which proved to be a mistake. With mud beneath her she wasn't as sure on her paws as normally she would be and found herself slipping until her entire form was covered in mud. She scowled the snorted at herself; knowing that even Tinytail wouldn't recognize her just now as she was. She amusement sparked in dark amber eyes and she headed back for the relative safety of solid ground. She try again from there and see if her luck was any better. She was already dirty, so no sense in giving up after just one go, after all.
