Frozenrain61 Moons // Warrior-Queen // StoneClan On windy nights like this one, Frozenrain could think of nothing cozier than curling up with her mate in Hawkstar's den. Their sleeping-place was well-sheltered, and though it could not fully mute the sound of the gales whispering through the rocks, usually the soft purr of one or both cats inside was enough to lull the other to peace. It was fortunate they were both early risers; had Hawkstar wanted to stay in their nest until sunhigh, Frozenrain might have been tempted, just this once, to oblige. It was harder to leave the den when the air had grown so cold, the promise of leafbare held over their heads like a stormcloud.
However, they both had duties to attend to, and mother nature had one last parting gift before the snow would start falling; a clear sky. It was colorless and vast, trying to blend in witht heir rocky horizon, but the winds had died down and the chill was tolerable. Stretching, coat fluffing up as she brushed pelts with Hawkstar, one of Frozenrain's ears swiveled gently to catch the sounds of Wolfclaw delegating the patrols for the morning.
"Shall we go for a walk, Hawkstar? Before we both end up too busy." Frozenrain's tail twined with his. They had several things in common - their love for their Clan and their kits being chiefest among them - so it wasn't hard to get along. However, relationships were like plants. If they were not watered and shown the sun, they would never grow. Even with the best of intentions. It was better to make time for each other and enjoy it while they could. Besides, it was also important that Hawkstar have the chance to step outside the role of Clan leader and into a simpler one, of her mate and the father of Vipertail and Herondive. If his role was the guardianship of the Clan, than hers was the guardianship of his mental and physical health.

Hawkstar may your dreams be larger than mountains The morning air was cool as it wrapped around the pair. The chill was the remnants of howling winds that had plagued them the night before. He'd heard it tearing at the stone structure around him as he'd let himself drift to sleep, burrowed into his mate's warmth. Remaining wrapped in that warmth was so tempting to the large tabby tom, but much like his mate, he felt a dim thought in the back of his mind. It called to him, whispering that there were duties he was required to fulfill. These flickering thoughts provided what little motivation he had to rise from his nest.
Pausing to gently touch his nose to the top of Frozenrain's head, Hawkstar padded out of the protection of his den. Outside, the air seemed even cooler, the sandy brown tom fluffing his pelt up as best he could against crisp morning air. Knowing the gray and white she-cat he was fortunate enough to call his mate would follow when she was ready, Hawkstar contented himself with surveying the life of the waking camp. Amber eyes zeroed in on a familiar, dark gray figure padding passed the warrior's den, nodding to Wolfclaw as the StoneClan deputy met his gaze.
Soft pawsteps sounded from behind him, and soon he felt Frozenrain's lush pelt against his. As if called forth by her presence, a purr rumbled from within his chest, amber eyes turning to gaze warmly at her. His tail twisted with hers, ears pricking forward to catch her gentle voice. Her request was one he'd never pass up. "There is no one in the Clan I'd rather take a walk with." He replied honestly, touching noses with her. Before long, he would be required to step back into the pawprints on Clan leader. He wanted to remain just Frozenrain's mate for a moment longer.
Signaling for her to follow, Hawkstar made his way down the path from his den. He waved Wolfclaw over momentarily, explaining he and Frozenrain were stepping out for a little while. Unsurprisingly, Wolfclaw replied he would watch the Clan in Hawkstar's stead. There was a pawful of cats whom Hawkstar would trust to take his place in the event he were unable to lead, and Wolfclaw was certainly one of them. Thanking the gray tom, Hawkstar waited until Frozenrain was at his side once more, the pair setting course for the entrance.
He moved purposefully, until they were clear of StoneClan's entryway; then, he fell into a comfortable walk, his fur pressed to Frozenrain's just to feel the comfort of her presence. Mist billowed from his mouth with every breath, pale amber gaze considering the sky for a moment. "You know..." He meowed into the quiet morning. "I've come to notice in my many moons that, even on its bluest day, the sky pales in comparison to your eyes..." leader of stoneclan and may you have the courage to scale their summits background image | harley king | Fawn | table by phoenix

Frozenrain61 Moons // Warrior-Queen // StoneClanPerhaps the kindest thing about her mate's eloquent compliments, was that he seemed to wholeheartedly believe them. Warmed not by the words but by the tom saying them, a purr left Frozenrain's throat. "And the mountains have nothing on your strength of spirit, Hawkstar." She meant that. StoneClan could not ask for a better, more resolute leader; the tom was enormous even by StoneClan cat standards, but Frozenrain preferred to think of it as StarClan's way of showing how much inner strength Hawkstar had. Though the exterior couldn't possibly match his interior, it at least gave a hint.
That this was a mighty, proud cat, from a mighty, proud Clan.
Rubbing her cheek gently against his, the silence that lapsed between them was fond, Frozenrain hardly needing to chatter to make the morning pleasant for them both. The birds were doing enough of that, and the bright red wings of a male cardinal caught her eye, the she-cat's head moving as she followed the bird's path towards TreeClan's woods.
"Have you been to see Duskflower yet?" Frozenrain asked, her thoughts on the perma-queen in the nursery. "I've never seen Eagletalon so estatic. I told him to walk border-to-border if he couldn't sit still for more than a heartbeat." She was happy for them. Love was something that did not seem to have worked out for her mate's closest friend - until it had. Duskflower was a wonderful mother and a wonderful she-cat overall; it was promising to see those two make one another happy. StoneClan was sure to flourish with this incoming litter.

Hawkstar may your dreams be larger than mountains Hawkstar had yet to fully comprehend how the gray and white she-cat's words could hold so much sway within him. Perhaps it was simply one of the many symptoms of loving someone with your entire being, but... When Frozenrain complimented him on the strength of his character, it was as though Hawkstar could actually believe he had the inner strength to match the towering mountains around them. Affectionately returning the rub of her cheek against his, the StoneClan leader's amber eyes followed her brilliant blue ones to the fluttering red wings of the passing cardinal. He watched it until it disappeared amongst TreeClan's woods, and Frozenrain's voice called to his attention.
Considering both her and her words for a moment, the sandy tom couldn't help but smile. Though Frozenrain mentioned only Duskflower by name, his mind jumped to Eagletalon by association, recalling the falcon hunting experience he'd shared with his brother. Eagletalon's infatuation had been clear as the sky was cloudless. Eagletalon's every thought had led back to Duskflower, and Hawkstar grinned as he recalled what it had felt like to fall in love. It was true that Frozenrain no longer consumed his every thought; he wasn't caught by the uncontrollable urge to somehow link every moment to his mate somehow.
Instead, she held an ever-present existence in the back of his mind. That was how love evolved. The fall was rapid, all consuming; nothing else made sense, and nothing else mattered but the two of you. And then it lulled, it reached a point of perfect balance. She had become his rock in the world, just has he hoped he'd become hers. Since finding her, he could not imagine a world without her in it. Her, or their two kits. With a thoughtful flick of his tail, Hawkstar shook his head in answer to her question.
"No, not since Eagletalon practically tackled me off the Rock Pile to tell me Duskflower was to bear his kits." He chuckled fondly, recalling the near kit-like excitement that had one of StoneClan's senior warriors practically vibrating in place. "I've made a valiant attempt to bring her prey in the morning, yet... Somehow another sand-hued tom seems to beat me to it." He grinned at his mate, sure she would know exactly whom he was referring to. "Perhaps we can drop by the nursery upon returning to camp, check in on the parents-to-be."
No doubt Eagletalon would be there. Hawkstar had been particularly attached to Frozenrain during her pregnancy too, some sort of desire to be near her as though he alone could protect her. "In the mean time... Any particular destination in mind? I can't say I've had much time to just... Walk recently." He admitted with a gentle smile. leader of stoneclan and may you have the courage to scale their summits background image | harley king | Fawn | table by phoenix

Frozenrain61 Moons // Warrior-Queen // StoneClanFrozenrain purred her agreement. That sounded like a fine idea; she had been in the nursery with Duskflower and Dawnblossom both, the sisters having had their litters around the same time she had kitted Vipertail and Herondive. For a moment, Frozenrain felt wistful, wondering at all if their two kits would stay their only kits, or if there was another litter in store for her and Hawkstar.
"In the mean time... Any particular destination in mind? I can't say I've had much time to just... Walk recently."
The sandy tom drew her thoughts free of future hopes, and Frozenrain's pace did not falter, her paws seeming to naturally draw her in the direction of the mountains. "Shall we walk along the edge of the mountains? There's always a beautiful view from higher up." Even if her tone was light and her steps were even lighter, the StoneClan matriarch's thoughts had turned to the past now. Of course, Vipertail and Herondive were not her only kits; there had been a nameless litter before them. Frozenrain knew not how many, but she mourned them even without names and faces, the right of motherhood allowing her this. Reincarnation was not a popular belief in StoneClan, but for the first time, Frozenrain hoped it was true - that the tiny lives she had been unable to protect would be born again to another queen, in another time, where they could live full, meaningful lives.
Her breath clouded in front of her face as she sighed ever so softly, gazing at the jagged, snowy peaks, and feeling cold for reasons that had nothing to do with the weather.

Hawkstar may your dreams be larger than mountains The StoneClan leader would be lying if he said he was an expert in reading others. However, when it came to Frozenrain... Love had a strange way of connecting the two of them. He had no clue what it was that alerted him to his mate's slight shift, only that his ear flicked and he felt it... Necessary for him to look in her direction. Gently laying his tail on her flank if only to offer her some form of silent comfort, the large tabby tom listened politely to the beautiful she-cat's suggestion of heading toward the mountains.
It had been some time since he ventured into the mountainous terrain. It was, admittedly, an exciting thought. And there was certainly no one on this earth with whom he'd rather spend his time. "The mountains sound perfect." He meowed gently, pausing a moment to allow Frozenrain to fall back into step with him. His shoulder brushed Frozenrain's thick fur slightly, and he could only hope it brought her the same comfort it brought him. Large paws with sturdy pads accustomed to stony terrain moved confidently, climbing the slight rise dividing StoneClan's home with true mountain.
Still with no true destination in mind, the StoneClan tom moved alongside his mate, the pair guiding one another to an outcrop on the mountain face. Once certain it was sturdy enough to hold both their weights (he'd tested it with a good few leaps and bounds), the sandy brown tom used his tail to brush away debris. With a grin reminiscent of a younger tom fallen ears over paws for a she-cat, he mewed. "Won't you do me the honor of sitting with me a moment? Admire the view?" There was no questioning that seeing StoneClan territory from this vantage point was breathtaking.
Hawkstar simply had the honor of gazing upon someone even more breathtaking every day. When she finally did take a seat at his side, Hawkstar wrapped his tail around her, leaning a broad shoulder against her smaller one. A thoughtful sound escaped him, the light brown tabby casting a glance at the white and gray she-cat beside him. "Seeing Herondive and Vipertail growing up to be strong StoneClan warriors... Have you ever considered having another litter..?" His ears tipped back slightly, almost as though he were embarrassed to be asking the question, baring a sheepish grin to match. leader of stoneclan and may you have the courage to scale their summits background image | harley king | Fawn | table by phoenix

Frozenrain64 Moons // Warrior-Queen // StoneClanHawkstar possessed a noble character, through and through. Warmed by her mate's continous displays of chivalry, from sweeping away the debris to wrapping his tail around her, it all resonated strongly with the StoneClan warrioress. Their fur mingling and some of the gloom lifting from her heart, Frozenrain gazed out over the territory. It was caught 'between seasons', like a rabbit trying to change coats in time for leafbare. She thought it beautiful nevertheless, and pristine blue eyes followed the sweeping, mountainous terrain fondly.
He spoke then of their kits, and Frozenrain purred, an unconscious gesture of happiness. "I have. With Duskflower in the nursery again, and a mother's instinct telling me Crowdance may be headed there shortly, I miss having a litter of my own." It had been one of her greatest joys, raising Herondive & Vipertail. They filled her with pride and profound warmth unlike anything else; she saw so much of their father in each one. Serious Herondive, as reliable a warrior as Hawkstar himself, and clever Vipertail, who had inherited his father's sense of fun with plenty to spare.
Frozenrain nuzzled the top of her head under Hawkstar's jaw, pensive and listening to the stead thrum of his heart. "Kittings become harder as a queen ages," Frozenrain sighed. "What I wish for and what StarClan has in store for me may not be the same thing. I couldn't bear to lose more kits."
