Ravenpaw was out of the camp for the moment. He had a session with Eagle now, but until then he was on his own. He wasn't too far from camp though, and he left a scent trail for Eagle whenever he was ready to fetch him. He laid down on his stomach while he relaxed himself. Every so often his ears would flicker at the sounds of prey and the smell would come to his nose. He was tempted to do some hunting for the clan, he stood up slowly and stretched himself out. Then he crouched softly. His eyes focused on the bush where the mouse was hiding, and when he was close enough, he pounced quickly and caught the mouth, killing it instantly Ravenpaw buried the mouse to collect later. After that, he looked around before sitting down softly. There wasn't anything else around for the moment that he could smell or hear and he didn't want to go too far from where he was in case Eagletalon came soon. Fawn

68 Moons // Tom // Senior Warrior // StoneClan Ravenpaw was, for the most part, a self-sufficient apprentice. If he'd been a lazier mentor, or one just starting out, he would have been more than a little relieved to know the young tom liked to go out by himself to train in solitude. Eagletalon, however, knew better than to grow lax in Ravenpaw's training just because he was so good at looking after himself.
Following at a measured stride, Eagletalon took advantage of the leaf-fall colors and his own sandy coat, blending in well with the landscape as he crept up on Ravenpaw. Spotting the black tom in the midst of a hunt, he hung back, not wanting to interrupt Ravenpaw's catch. Following the pounce with his golden eyes, Eagletalon approved of the technique, though he intended to go over hunting the different types of prey in more depth later.
While Ravenpaw was burying the mouse, Eagletalon appeared from his hiding place, with a vocal greeting and a wave of his tail. "Nice catch. We're going to be exploring the territory today while we check borders. You're still young, so you haven't experienced all of the seasons yet and how they alter our territory." Eagletalon fixed him with a keen gaze. "Have you noticed anything unusual about the landscape lately? Or the way prey's been acting?" --- Word Count: 217 Words Tags: @savagewolf Notes:

Ravenpaw lifted his head for a moment as Eagletalon came up behind him. It seemed he had seen him get his catch. He gave a soft smile and turned towards Eagletalon to listen. As he spoke he gave a few nods of his head. When the question came, Ravenpaw began to think for a moment, before giving another nod of his head towards his mentor. "I noticed it being harder to get prey, and they aren't as plump either. It's as if all the prey had disappeared due to the cold, or perhaps they are hiding? With it being so cold, the ground is cold too. I noticed some of the plants changing colour a little, I don't think that's normal for them." He tilted his head for a moment, if his mentor understood him. He looked around for a moment, sniffing the air, but currently, there seemed to be no prey in the area. Fawn

68 Moons // Tom // Senior Warrior // StoneClan Eagletalon chuckled, drawing Ravenpaw's gaze over to a maple leaf that had fallen down or blown in from TreeClan's territory. "This is a maple leaf. See how bright red it is? Maple trees always change their colors during leaf-fall, it's one of the best ways to tell what season it is." Surveying his apprentice's jet black coat, Eagletalon's whiskers twitched with some private amusement. "You're lucky you're a StoneClan cat, Ravenpaw. If you were in TreeClan, you'd stick out like a shadow around all these leaves."
Flicking his tail, the sandy warrior began to climb one of the boulders, moving aside so Ravenpaw could climb up also. He gripped at the rough texture with his claws to keep himself from slipping as a strong, chilly breeze swept over them. "What do you smell, Ravenpaw? A crispness to the air, right? The prey are all building their nests and food stores to prepare for leafbare, see if you can catch a whiff of mice." --- Word Count: 163 Words Tags: @savagewolf Notes: No reason they can't do a little bit of hunting while they check out the territory!

Ravenpaw looked over to the maple leaf and gave a soft nod. Then, a smile came across his face at the comment his mentor had made. He was glad he was in Stoneclan, he liked it where he was and he would do whatever he could. He watched as Eagletalon began to climb up on the rocks and without hesitation he began to climb up with him. His tail gently swished side to side as he did, he liked exploring the territory, even if it wasn't on his own. Once Ravenpaw was up, he lifted his head slightly and gave a few sniffs, until he caught the scent of mouse. He gave crouched low to the ground and looked to his mentor, before looking in the direction of the mouse. "I smell one. Let's go." He motioned with his tail, taking the lead without hesitation even if he didn't mean to. Once he got close enough, Ravenpaw pounced quickly and caught the mouse in his jaws. He snapped his neck before burring it for later. Once done, he sat himself down and looked back to his mentor. "I want to help provide for this clan as much as I can but sometimes, I feel that I am not as good as the other apprentices. Not because of my skills though, but......" He stopped there, and let out a sigh. He had never really spoke of his preference before, but who better than his mentor? Perhaps his mentor would be able to help him see the right path? That was what he hoped. Fawn

68 Moons // Tom // Senior Warrior // StoneClan Ravenpaw was a 'learn at your own pace' kind of tom; Eagletalon naturally took a few steps back, allowing the apprentice to take the lead from him on their impromptu hunt. He too scented the mouse that was guiding Ravenpaw over the rocks, and his mouth watered at the familiar aroma. On cool days like this, warm prey was both a necessity and a luxury; nothing like warm food to chase the chill away. As if summoned by his thoughts of the weather, a cold breeze blew over his back fur, and Eagletalon felt a shiver right down to his paws, though he suppressed it. Or maybe you're just turning into an elder, you old tom. It was true, he'd always been a short-coated cat since the day he'd been kitted, but now more than ever, he really felt the effects of the changing seasons.
Watching keenly, Ravenpaw made his pounce with or without Eagletalon's approval (he didn't need it; if anything, this was proof that Ravenpaw knew exactly what he was doing). He's going to need an assessment sooner rather than later. Still, let's see how he does in the snow. Hunting prey felt practically kit-easy during the warmer months, after a harsh leafbare.
"Very good. It'll be your job to lead us back here later, to pick up the prey." Eagletalon tapped the end of his dark golden tail on the freshly dug earth. That way he could be certain Ravenpaw was paying attention to the territory lesson.
While they had a moment to scent for more prey and take stock of their surroundings, Ravenpaw struck up a conversation - much to the surprise to his mentor.
"I want to help provide for this clan as much as I can but sometimes, I feel that I am not as good as the other apprentices. Not because of my skills though, but......"
"Your skills are great." He quickly rebuked, certain of the fact. All ears, Eagletalon folded his haunches into a sit. Ready to hear the apprentice's story. "Tell me why you don't feel good enough." I'd bet a piece of fresh kill it's his brothers. Eagletalon understood competitiveness. StarClan knew he had his fair share. --- Word Count: 360 Words Tags: @savagewolf Notes:

Ravenpaw was perfectly fine leading them back to the prey when they were finished and had given a nod to show it. Although, when Eagletalon commented on his skills, he gave a proud stance and another nod of his head. He knew his skills were good, he worked hard to be the best he could. After a moment, Ravenpaw let out a small sigh, before letting what he wanted to say, slowly come out. He just hoped Eagletalon would be ok with what he was about to say, although, he wasn't sure how Eagletalon would accept him for it, when he himself found it hard to accept it. He wanted to be the best for his clan, with his feelings, he wasn't as good. "I know my skills are great, I work hard, very hard to be the best I can. It's just....it's not easy to say... but I like toms more than I do she cats." He stayed silent after saying what he had. He didn't speak a single word. After a long moment of silence, Ravenpaw slowly spoke again. "I don't often come out and tell others, but you are my mentor and I trust you. A part of me hopes you can fix me." He looked to him with hoping eyes, before turning away with another sigh. Fawn

68 Moons // Tom // Senior Warrior // StoneClan Eagletalon did not recoil or express astonishment. After 68 moons of life as a StoneClan cat, through some highs and lows and everything in between, his apprentice's confession wasn't too shocking. Eagletalon wasn't a mind-reader, however, and a small part of him wished the issue had been about Ravenpaw's brothers. He knew how to deal with sibling rivalry. This, however...
The sandy warrior's silence stretched out for a couple of heartbeats as he got his thoughts into order, but he smiled at last when he'd finally figured out what to say. It had taken him a moment to recall his first apprentice; Sharpclaw. Not that Ravenpaw had said what he'd said, some of the other warrior's behaviors suddenly made sense. "You don't need fixing, Ravenpaw. Some toms just prefer toms, and some she-cats prefer she-cats. That doesn't mean you're broken or not as good as the others." Eagletalon wasn't going to admit that he didn't know any toms with a preference for toms - except for maybe Foxtrot, and Vipertail (jokingly) - but that wasn't because they didn't exist, but because this subject rarely came up.
"If liking toms more than she-cats bothers you, Ravenpaw, then that's not something you can twitch your whiskers at to make it all disappear." Eagletalon rested his tail on the apprentice's shoulders, feeling very much the uncle with the confused, teenaged nephew. "You should confront those feelings head on. And if you're worried about acceptance - don't be. Your brothers will understand." He would've bet a crow's feather that it wouldn't change how they treated him at all. Family was still family - regardless of preference. --- Word Count: 268 Words Tags: @savagewolf Notes:
