Loyalty to the clan is the first, most important rule. A bright leaf-fall day was what Talonfoot had been waiting seemingly countless moons to see again. He enjoyed the changing of the cool season, away from the horrid heat that filled the stones. He would soon enjoy sitting on the rocks in the day to sun bathe and sock up the warmth from them. The only thing he disliked about the cold season was the lack of prey, which was inevitable, as always. Because the day was so splendid, Talonfoot was in an unusual good mood, though his expression was as blank and cold-looking as ever. He had been given dawn patrol early in the morning, which had been tiering as always, and his mind was on what areas would be good to hunt in. The cold weather had not quite yet kciked in, therefore prey wouldn't be bundled up. At this time prey would be fattening up on whatever they could find for the cold season of Leaf-Bare. With that thought, the tom was allowing his mind to wander to the recent defeat to LightningClan for terretory. Those fox hearts had taken what was rightfully StoneClan's, and Talonfoot despised that clan most of all, curently. His dislike for all other clans was no secret, but focus was currenlty on the clan of whom had recently taken a peice of his territory. His clan's territory. They had taken a peiece of his clan. He was more than looking fowarfds to the next battle over the land, he enjoyed the thrill of the fight, and he knew very well of the dangers along with it. It didn't matter to him, LightningClan needed to pay.
The tom was doing as he usualy did when he was thinking, sitting next to a rock in camp with his tails around his paws, eyes focused on the sky and whatever clouds he could spot. Since the day was sunny not many were out, but Talonfoot still found himself looking up at them as he remained deep in thought. TAG: Fawn | WORDS: 342| NOTES: MEL @ ADOXOGRAPHY

StoneClan had an overabundance of brooding warriors, in Honeypaw's eyes. Ospreywing, Skunkspots, Talonfoot, Herondive - even Wolfclaw and Hawkstar were the silent, thoughtful type most of the tme. Make no mistake, Honeypaw fully understood the risks of leafbare - she of all cats, who had fought a rough battle with greencough in her first few moons of life, a fight which her brother Kitekit had lost, knew the trials of that season - but was that any excuse to be so gloomy all the tme?
Having returned from cleaning out the elders' bedding, Honeypaw, with permission from one of the warriors to finally have something to eat this morning, hurried to the fresh kill pile. Quickly selecting a shrew, her mouth watering, she pricked her ears, leaf-green gaze flitting from every corner of StoneClan's camp in the hopes of spotting some of her friends.
Until she remembered that Hazelpaw, Herondive and Vipertail had all gone out on a hunting party. Then I'll just spend some time with Ravenpaw and Ashpaw. Tail raising high like a banner, she went to the apprentices' den, setting down her shrew to call in cheerfully. "Ravenpaw? Ashpaw? Do you two want to share this shrew with me?"
Her whiskers twitched, and she realized a second too late that their nests were empty. They'd probably snuck out of camp again...
Grumbling under her breath, Honeypaw scooped up her shrew, still looking for someone to share it with when she spotted the dark-striped warrior, Talonfoot, sitting off to the side with his head in the clouds. Well, not actually in the clouds, but close enough. Brightening at the chance to perhaps play or have a friendly conversation, Honeypaw glanced stealthily around for any authority figures, and then tiptoed over to him.
With a spark of mischief in her eyes, Honeypaw flung the shrew at the back of Talonfoot's head. "Look out! Flying shrew!" She knew she shouldn't throw prey around, but it was too good to pass up! What if he jumped? Honeypaw's whiskers quivered with mirth, a mrrow already building up in her throat as she trotted closer to watch her little joke unfold.

Loyalty to the clan is the first, most important rule. Talonfoot was ready to get up and snag something from the fresh kill pile, but it seemed that prey wanted to find it's way to him today. Ah, how lovely and nice for nature to be so kind.
Thump.
What smelled like a shrew had hit the back of Talonfoot's head, catching him off gaurd he quixkly took a defensive manuver and grabbed they prey as if a small attacking cat, throwing it off of him and quickly jumping to his feet, eyes wide in shock and confusion. Once his eyes caught sight of what it was, it only added more confusion to the mix, "What in the name of StarClan...?" His voice, already low, turned into that of a trailed off whisper. It clicked in his head after a hertbeat. That's what the voice behind him had ment. He turned around, slowly and surprisingly calm as his cold amber eyes found their target. This apprentice wasn't normally one that bugged him, most of the other apprentices knew better than to cause trouble for the grumpy tom, who had a disliking for the younger bunches of the clan's members. The confusion in his gaze remained, though his eyes narrowed and he growled under his breath, sitting down with his ears slightly layed back and his tail lashing behind him, when it would have normally been layed netly and calmly around his forepaws.
"Honeypaw," His deep voice had an edge to it as he called out the young clan member's name. "Come here." He didn't seem to have enjoyed the kit's cerade. He didn't find it the least bit amusing, not at all. He wanted that to be clear to the careless warrior in training. He continued to talk once she drew within an appropreate range. "I suppose you think it's a good idea to just throw prey around as if a kit with a moss ball? What would your mentor think of you dirtying prey that you are supposed to eat, especially if you were throwing it around in such a careless manner that you manage to hit and startle a warrior, which I'm certain;y hoping was an accident." With his tail wavering in an irratated manner behind him, he scoffed and shook his head as if dissapointed, "I should have you go and give this to the elders as a punishment,..." He paused in his words and slowly wrapped his tail netly around his paws, though the tip still twitched, and with his eyes scanning the apprentice head to toe he finished the thought, "but I shall let this slide since this is my first time having to get onto you." His tone was still harsh and bitter as always, as was his fiery glare, but inside he knew that Honeypaw most likely had only been playing around. Apprentices sometimes did as such, and it wasn't like she had done much harm. Oh, but the young warrior in training wasn't getting off scott free, of course this wasn't exaclt a punishment either. He knew how the younger crowd saw him, grumpy, prideful, mean, and he was. He knew he was. Therefore Honeypaw was going to have to spend a little bit of her time with Talonfoot, which was more over because of the fact he was bored. Any other situation and he wuld have simply told the apprentice off and sent them on their way, but the day had started good and he didn't want to turn it sour now.
"Go ahead and eat, and since you enjoy throwing things about and startling warriors you can sit here with me and let me bore you."

Before she could so much as giggle at the funny display Talonfoot showed when he 'caught' the shrew and pinned it to the ground like an enemy cat, the senior warrior was giving her a full blown lecture on her behavior. Honeypaw's ears pinned back, and she did feel apologetic. "Sorry Talonfoot," she mewed, disheartened by his reaction. "You were sitting there so seriously - and everyone is so stressed because of LightningClan... I was just trying to have a bit of fun." Her smile turned sheepish. Maybe next time I shouldn't try to make a joke with fresh kill. I'm such a birdbrain, it's leaf-fall and I'm throwing prey around!
Suddenly grateful only Talonfoot had seen her kittish behavior, Honeypaw wilted under his fiery stare. One cranky warrior was more than enough, thanks! Picking up the shrew again, she took a seat beside him, careful to give him space.
As a peace offering, Honeypaw cleared her throat, using her sweetest voice. "Would you like to share it with me?" Sitting here and letting Talonfoot 'bore her' didn't seem so bad; Honeypaw had always been fond of stories. Her imagination was a beast all it's own, carrying her thoughts far and away, chasing after every little silly thought like a particularly speedy mouse. Her dreams were always interesting, to say the least.
Though others would probably argue that Talonfoot had very little to say about anything, but Honeypaw didn't believe that. He was a full 18 moons older than she was, he must've had some good stories. He was an apprentice before I was even born, Honeypaw realized, and looked at him with something like renewed respect.

Loyalty to the clan is the first, most important rule. Talonfoot's whiskers twitched at the apology. Yes cats were stressed, and things seemed to be down throughout the camp. Despite the day the atmopshere was currently colder than leaf-bare. He couldn't entierly blame the young she-cat for playing around, but playing around with prey was something he very much had a right to get onto her about. He had gotten onto her. She had apologised. Case closed. He was surprised as her tone was innocent yet cheery as she cautiously cleared her throat and asked something that confused Talonfoot more than a few moments ago when a dead shrew had attacked him. He tried not to let it show, though he couldn't shke the look of slight confusion on his maw. Cats, especially not apprentices, never asked him for something as ... social as to share prey. He had just given this she a small lecture over wasting prey and now she wanted to share some with him? Of course, he wouldn't refuse. He had yet to eat for the morning and the shrew was plenty to share for a light meal between the both of them, since it had been trying to fatten up on whatever it could find in preperation for Leaf-Bare. "I don't see why not." Was his slightly gruff responce, almost under his breath as he tucked his front paws under him and layed down, his fur floofing up slightly as his tail wavered lightly behind him before wrapping arund his side, not quite long enough to reach and drape over his front paws. "Thank you for the offer." He added in a soft tone, seeing no need in having his rash and more demanding tone anymore now that the moment for lecture was over. He waited for her to take the first bite, his eyes curiously taking in her expression. Was she expecting something from him? There was a spark in her eyes of something... something that he didn't quite know how to place. He wasn't very good at reading into emotions, though. He huffed and his tailtip lightly twitched against his side. He may as well try and get rid of the tension he was feeling, as he usualy did feel such in any social stand point. "I've heard a little bit about how training for you and your den-mates is going. Apprerantly you're all doing fairly well. Some of you are better at fighting, some of you are better at hunting. Which do you think you're better at, or are you just equally good at both so far?" TAG: Fawn | WORDS: 438 | NOTES: MEL @ ADOXOGRAPHY

"Oh I'm much better at hunting than fighting," Honeypaw chirped, honest in her admittance. "I understand the battle moves but... hunting just comes easier. I like deciphering all the different smells, seeing which is fresh and which is stale. It can be a challenge but a fun challenge, you know?" Well, maybe he didn't, but that was okay. He was a warrior, so he knew how to hunt, probably even better than she did.
With a sudden uncomfortable thought, Honeypaw quickly added "Not that I only do things because I think they're fun. I'm training to be a warrior, so I know it's not all..." Her whiskers twitched, wearing an apologetic (though amused) smile "Flying shrews and gatherings."
Was it too soon? Honeypaw's ear flicked, and she took a bite of the shrew, savoring the taste and giving her mind the chance to slow down a moment. Her thoughts, as always, were threatening to go off down several different paths at once. Did Talonfoot ever do anything silly? I bet I could ask Thistletail, he'd probably know. Even if her father hadn't been this warrior's mentor, he had been a warrior when Talonfoot was still Talonpaw, and Honeypaw was genuinely curious. Had he always been this grumpy?
I wonder if he was a grumpy kit. She covered up a small giggle by taking a second bite out of the shrew, and then gently nudging it towards him, trying not to be a prey-hog. A grumpy kit, though... Honeypaw pictured a tiny Talonkit getting hit with a mossball, and that singular incident had turned him from a pleasant, sweet kitten into the big ol' grouch he was today. Honeypaw coughed, trying her hardest to keep this 'theory' to herself.
He'd probably swat her ears and put her on tick-checking duty for a quarter moon if she wasn't careful.

Loyalty to the clan is the first, most important rule. Talonfoot nodded in understanding. Though he had been the opposite in his training days. He had been rather good at fighting and defence stances, strategies and such for battle were his forte, and they still were. "Hunting for the clan is as important as defending the clan. Leaf-bare is on the way, so the clan will need as many able bodied hunters as possible. I myself was better at fighting, I still am. I had to work harder on my hunting skills so I could catch up with my other den-mates at the time... I still have to work on it every now and then." He admitted openly and ran his tongue over his paw a few times before putting it back under him.
He scoffed as she mentioned flying shrews. He wasn't much one for humor but that one little pun didn't really bother him. "Having fun while training is good. That means you enjoy learning what youre supposed to be learning, it makes you more willing to participate. If I didn't enjoy my training when I was an apprentice then I wouldn't have tried... I was very stubborn as a kit and as an apprentice, and even during my younger warrior days I wanted things my way. I still won't put up for some things. I suspect that will only get worse when I'm an elder." He nodded to her as she pushed the prey towards him and he took a bite of it, pushing it back towards her before speaking again, "I doubt you will ever get like me. You're full of energy and very optemistic. That's good in it's own way. Some one like you is bound to make friends with ease and remain bright in tough situations. It may seem like I'm as grumpy as an elder with tick in his tail, but that's because I'm just very stubborn and like working hard. other apprentices and warriors often say I'm too tense and need to learn to relax, but I relax by working. Every one has their own way of getting around and getting things done-..." His voice trailed off as he realised he wasn't talking about anything in particular anymore. Off he had gone again, rambling on for how many moons now? He huffed a sigh and looked Honeypaw over, "I suppose what I'm saying is that you seem like a good apprentice and I look fowards to seeing your skills develop as you do." Praise. Something he hadn't really think he'd be giving today, especially not to some one he had gotten onto. It was probably because he was calm again by now and was finding the apprentice tollerable.

Talonfoot held her attention for the duration of his small speech, remarking on his apprentice days and his own work-ethic. Honeypaw had bobbed her head in a nod, yes I understand, when he spoke of working as a means of relaxing. In truth, she preferred to take a nap in her nest or go for a walk with her friends, or even share tongues with her Clanmates over doing extra work after doing all of her other duties, but Honeypaw wasn't one to criticize another's way of life. If that worked for Talonfoot, then that was great!
"I suppose what I'm saying is that you seem like a good apprentice and I look fowards to seeing your skills develop as you do."
Touched, Honeypaw at once warmed up to Talonfoot. He cares about my training progress! Besides her parents, brother, sister, Ospreywing, Herondive and Hazelpaw, Honeypaw hadn't anticipated another full grown warrior actually keeping an eye on her development. It was both nerve-wracking and delightful, the tabby she-cat purring. "Thanks! I won't disappoint you, or the Clan. And... I won't throw prey anymore, I promise."
It was nice to have a friend that wasn't in the apprentices' den alongside her and Hazelpaw; he probably had plenty of interesting things to share, and advice to give. I should introduce him to Herondive, they'd probably get along well. "Would you help me with my battle moves sometime? I want to surprise Ospreywing." Honeypaw's face was bright with determination; though she could be a little air-headed and her imagination ran faster and wilder than all the hare in LightningClan, it was clear that Honeypaw genuinely wanted to do right by her Clan.
Besides... Talonfoot's scolding had put something into perspective. She was nearly ready to become a warrior. What if Hawkstar delayed her ceremony because she didn't seem mature enough? Even if her claws were sharp and her nose was keen, and she could take care of the Clan like any other warrior - if she wasn't... if she didn't prove that she could still be herself and no longer a silly kit or apprentice at the same time, she might be stuck with the 'paw suffix for another season!

Loyalty to the clan is the first, most important rule. Talonfoot nodded curtly and licked his chops, "Good to hear that." He said in response to her promise to not throw prey around anymore. At least for now the kit was being a bit more mature. "Would you help me with my battle moves sometime? I want to surprise Ospreywing." Talonfoot's ears perked at that. He hadn't had his own apprentice in some time, but he still new the basics and how to help an apprentice learn. Helping one on occasion would be a breeze, and perhaps even enjoyable. Something like this was an offer he simply couldn't refuse. "Of course I would like to help you. Anytime you need practice on a move, or want to learn something more advanced, just let me know and I'll be there faster than you can say mouse." He had a purr in his tone as he spoke this time, whiskers twitching happily in the thought of an apprentice learning from him. Passing on skills that had been taught for countless moons was something any warrior should be proud to teach or learn. TAG: Fawn | WORDS: 197| NOTES: MEL @ ADOXOGRAPHY

Talonfoot's ready answer had the apprentice feeling as warm as sunshine, her smile fitting happily across her muzzle. "Thank you! I don't know if I can learn anything advanced yet, but I'll try any move you want to teach me." That was a promise. Honeypaw did not like to waste the time of others, even if she was occasionally guilty of holding up progress with her daydreaming and her voracious urge to question, it was never intentional.
They had finished with the shrew, and with a courteous dip of her head to the senior warrior, Honeypaw picked up the remains and trotted just outside of camp to bury the bones. White paws scraped back the dry soil and tough, short grass; she had to work her claws down to create a large enough, deep enough hole to bury the shrew bones without attracting any predators this close to camp. Taking extra care, Honeypaw patted down the soil, pushing a rock with her nose over the spot to discourage any curious animals (though the cat-scent everywhere was probably the best predator deterrent they had).
Sneezing from a few flecks of dirt going up her highly sensitive nose, Honeypaw gave her pelt a good shake and returned to Talonfoot's side. "I had better go find Ospreywing, we're supposed to go hunting again in the woods today. Wish me luck?" A hopeful look filled her eyes like water in the sky springs. Honeypaw just wanted to confirm what she believed to be true; that they were on friendly terms with one another. And that she could look to him for support.

Loyalty to the clan is the first, most important rule. Talonfoot licked the reamineder of shrew from his lips asfter they had finished eating, watching as the apprentice scampered off momentarily to burry the kill's bones. His whiskeres twitched in slight amusement as she sneezed and then made her request for him to wish her luck. "I don't see why you need luck when I know you'll be able to hunt well no matter what... But if you think you'll need it, then I wish you the best of luck. You should wish me luck on my own hunting patrol later, unlike you I think I may depend on luck." He purred jokingly as he stood up and shook out his fur, giving his shoulder fur a small lick to smooth it down. He gave a warm smile to the apprentice, and dipped his head lightly. "Thank you for sharing with me and staying to talk. Though that was supposed to be a punishment, I suppose I enjoy having another little paw to talk with." With that he stretched and yawned, nodding to Honeypaw a quick, 'goodbye,' as he padded to the warriors den to try and take a nap before he had to go on mentioned hunting patrol in the evening.
