"Honeypaw, Hazelpaw, if either of you have any questions, or feel uncertain about anything, I know any of the warriors invited would be more than happy to help you. Especially Eagletalon. He's a big fan of questions."
Honeypaw's eyes gleamed, and she had to cover her mouth with her tail to suppress a bit of giggling. It was no shock to anyone (except those cats who hadn't really been paying attention) that Duskflower and Eagletalon were a couple now. It was exciting, to the apprentice who was most excited to grow up, fall in love and become a queen herself; to see Duskflower so happy and Eagletalon so full of mischief and warmth these days, she couldn't help her wistful thoughts, hoping later on after many seasons, she would be in Duskflower's paw-steps, with some other hopeful apprentice thinking these exact same thoughts.
Even if her heart was tuned towards Vipertail like the ears of a bat swiveled to catch the wingbeats of moths, Honeypaw couldn't help letting her imagination completely run away at the thought of this Gathering. With an excited look to Hazelpaw, her expression shining, she set out for StarClan's Claws, eager to meet some cats from the other Clans. Wouldn't it be romantic to meet a heroic handsome tom from TreeClan, or NightClan, and feel a... a... a spark between us?
Were these disloyal thoughts? To wish for a little forbidden love or excitement in her life? Honeypaw's legs felt as though they were losing strength, nervousness coursing through her blood like ice floes down a fast-rushing river. Oh StarClan did I groom myself thoroughly enough? "Do I look okay?" She whispered to Hazelpaw, but there was no time to hear her best friend's answer; they had arrived.
Tail tip swaying to and fro, Honeypaw followed Hawkstar, Wolfclaw and the others down into StarClan's Claws. She was both dismayed and relieved to know that they were the first ones here. But not for long. Soon enough, NightClan arrived with their silver-eyed leader at the helm, followed by LightningClan (her pelt prickled uncomfortably as she spotted Firestar leading her cats in), then a few cats from RainClan arrived (odd, where was their leader?), followed last but not least by TreeClan.
At once noticing some apprentices her own age, Honeypaw sat up straighter, looking at Hazelpaw with light dancing in her eyes. "Do you want to go say hi? I heard TreeClan's friendly." It would be nice to make some new friends in a way that wouldn't get her into trouble. She'd spotted Badgerpaw among the small RainClan group, and had waved her tail happily at him, but he either didn't see her or didn't recognize her; remembering the prey-swap fiasco, Honeypaw decided to give him a wide berth, just in case simply talking to him would get the apprentice into trouble once more.

STONEPAW TWELVE MOONS. TOM. APPRENTICE. TREECLAN. Stonepaw shivered lightly with excitement. It was his first Gathering, and he only hoped it would be as exciting as everyone said it was. He glanced over to the apprentices' den, wishing that Lightpaw had been invited as well. At least he'd be able to share the experience with Firepaw. He turned forward as Lionstar spoke, warning the patrol against speaking about the Clan's newest additions. Stonepaw didn't have plans to speak about any of TreeClan's recent events, but he nodded his head all the same.
And then they were off, setting a pace through the trees and toward StarClan's Claws. His excitement grew as they traveled, and he found himself glancing over at his sister more than once, wondering if she shared his excitement. As they drew closer, Lionstar slowed, and Stonepaw took the time to register the scents in the air as he regained his breath.
Their neighbors were familiar to him; NightClan's damp, murky smell and LightningClan's windswept grassy scent were easy to identify. But the other two, a wet, fishy scent and a dry, dusty one were new, but he could guess at who they were. Obviously RainClan's diet leant them their slightly fishy smell, so that meant the last scent was StoneClan. For a brief moment, he wondered if Zephyrfang would be proud that he had so easily identified the other Clans, then shook his head. It was too simple a task to garner much pride. Ah well.
Stonepaw stepped into the clearing looking around at the gathered cats. They already seemed to be mixing up and sharing tongues across Clans, and he smiled. He turned to look at Firepaw; with a jolt, he realized she was no longer at his side, and he scanned about wildly for a minute before spotting her a short distance away. She seemed happy enough, and with a sigh, Stonepaw relaxed. 'She'll be fine,' he told himself.
He looked around, not wanting to be a burden to his sister, and watched the other Clans for a moment. His eyes found a small brown-and-white tabby that looked about his age. She was looking around as he was, so he decided she might be a good place to start.
Fixing a gentle smile on his face, he glanced back toward where he'd last seen Firepaw. She was gone, of course, and Stonepaw resisted the urge to roll his eyes. He reminded himself that she'd be fine and turned back toward the other she-cat he'd seen. She was in the same spot, and he found himself thankful he didn't have to chase her down as well. He padded over, weaving around a small group of warriors, dipping his head respectfully to them in greeting as he passed.
When he reached the other apprentice, he gave her a smile, recognizing her smell as what he had figured to be StoneClan. He gave a small nod and spoke. "Hello. Mind if I join you?" He gave a friendly swish of his tail, waiting for her approval before lowering to his haunches. "I'm Stonepaw. What's your name?" Fawn , @jem (Firepaw references!) A lean form moved tentatively across unfamiliar grounds on silent paws. Her frame was fluffy yes but she also moved with a sort of daintiness that said she wasn't completely comfortable with where she was. Yes, Squirrelpaw had been invited to the Gathering - and she was honored really - but she was also extremely shy by nature and it was trying hard to get the best of her. As it was she had paused as close as she'd dared to those Apprentices already there as she'd dared. Her tail was in front of her face again as she tried to hide and be present at the same time. These weren't Night Clan cats, so she knew they had to be from another clan and it caused a strange sort of thrill to go through her at the realization she was really here.
After holding perfectly still for a long moment watching those already gathered, she took another few steps forward, trying to not let her shyness get the best of her again. Taking a steadying breath she took the last few steps forward and softly cleared her throat. This was her chance to really stand behind her belief that she didn't have to be enemies with cats just because they came from a different clan than she did. "Um, pardon me? Would you both...mind if I joined you? I-I'm Squirrelpaw. Of Night Clan. I-It's a pleasure to meet you both." And her tail was back in front of her face again, the fluffy appendage hiding her a bit and making her feel a tad more secure in the new situation. She knew her shyness likely made her look ridiculous to these other Apprentices, but honestly it was who she was and if they didn't like it they could both get over it. Because, by Star Clan, she was trying.

i'm through accepting limits 'cause someone says they're so Illuminating the rocky terrain with a pale glow, the full moon hung high in the sky, haloed by the effervescent wisps that were the remains of the gray skies of that afternoon. All day, the weather had seemed fickle, unable to decide whether it was to be a cloudy or a clear night, but it was with great relief that Hazelpaw had watched the clouds begin to fade away as the sun neared the horizon; after all, the Gathering was tonight, and it was finally her turn to go. She had pestered her mentor about it relentlessly until he’d acknowledged that she was old enough and fully capable of attending (it had taken absolutely moons of wheedling), and now that the day had finally arrived, the sight of a cloudy sky in the morning had her heart jumping to her throat. If StarClan dared to cancel her first Gathering, she would never forget such an insult, so it was with the attentiveness of a mother with a newborn kit that she watched the sky all day, counting down the minutes until the moon rose.
And now, it was finally time. Fur nicely groomed and green eyes shining with excitement, she stepped from the warmth of the apprentice’s den and into the cool night air, casting one last glance at Maplepaw’s still-sleeping form. She wished her sister had been invited too, for she would have loved to have shared this first experience with the she-cat she held closest to her heart; however, Hazelpaw also knew that Hawkstar couldn’t invite all of the apprentices. Next time, it would be Maplepaw’s turn – she would make sure of it. Besides, it wasn’t like she was alone. The apprentice turned and offered an eager grin to the tabby feline who had stepped up beside her. If Maplepaw was her sister by blood, then Honeypaw was her sister by choice. Nudging the other apprentice with her shoulder, the younger of the two whispered, ”Ready for this?” But she never heard the answer (not that she needed to), for her mentor decided at that moment to step forward and address the growing patrol of warriors and apprentices that had congregated in the center of StoneClan’s camp.
It was with a growing pride, now, that she nodded at Hawkstar’s words, and she realized the full implications of going to the Gathering. She would be representing StoneClan, and it would be her duty along with the rest to show all of the other clans how strong they were. As they set off toward StarClan’s Claws, she ducked her head and gave her chest fur another quick lick. Not only was she representing her clan but she was also Hawkstar’s apprentice, and she was determined to make him proud tonight, to prove to him that he had made the right decision to let her attend along with the older apprentices. Honeypaw seemed to have similar thoughts running through her mind, for she asked about her appearance, prompting Hazelpaw to glance over. Parting her jaws, the young she-cat was about to offer reassurance, but then the patrol stepped into the shadows of those arching spires.
They had arrived, and any thoughts of appearances had been wiped away from her mind.
The silence told her that they were alone, but it did not stay that way for long. With a quiet awe, she watched as the other clans arrived and the empty clearing was brought to life under the silvery light of the moon. Suddenly there were so many cats where there had not been any before, and a wide grin made its way onto her lips as she watched all of them move around her from her spot beside Honeypaw. Scents and voices mingled in the air, and green eyes found the diminutive RainClan patrol, searching for a familiar gray pelt. Was Jaycry here, by chance? She wouldn’t mind seeing the nice tom again…
Honeypaw straightened up, and the motion caught Hazelpaw’s attention even as her friend’s voice broke through her thoughts. Instinctively sitting up as well, she blinked and turned her attention toward said group of apprentices. ”Oh yes! I’ve never met a TreeClan cat before!” But even as they made to join the group, a separate voice spoke a moment later. He smelled of the forests and introduced himself as Stonepaw. About to offer her own name, Hazelpaw smiled at him, but the arrival of another apprentice – a she-cat, this time, from NightClan, who introduced herself as Squirrelpaw – distracted her. So many new cats!
”Hi!” Hazelpaw spoke up, wondering why the NightClan apprentice felt the need to hide behind her tail. Didn’t she know there was a truce on the night of the Gathering? There was no reason to be afraid – no one would hurt them. ”I’m Hazelpaw." A pause. "Have either of you been to a Gathering before?”

It was a delight to the young she-cat to have cats approach her, willing to interact with them. Without how disinterested Herondive had seemed about Gatherings, she had feared they weren't anywhere near as fun or exciting as everyone else declared. More than happy to have those fears assuaged, Honeypaw purred, beaming at the TreeClan tom that had introduced himself as Stonepaw. He was handsome, and maybe it was bias for her own Clan cropping up, but she liked his name. "Hi Stonepaw, I'm Honeypaw, and this is one of my best friends, Hazelpaw. We're from StoneClan."
Bumping her shoulder gently against Hazelpaw, her ears pricked forward curiously as a shy NightClan she-cat approached next. She could tell by her posture that she was a little uncertain, and Honeypaw sympathetically wondered if any siblings or friends had come to the gathering with her. If they didn't, that was okay - Honeypaw was happy to prove that StoneClanners were nice. Not so nice they could be stepped on by the other Clans, but still polite and sociable. No matter what anyone else said about them.
"Hi Squirrelpaw, and I don't mind at all. This is my first Gathering since becoming an apprentice." Tail swaying gently but eagerly behind her, Honeypaw seemed to settle into her natural environment. Though being around so many cats was reasonably daunting, it worried her little what the older cats would think of a group of apprentices socializing. If they weren't here to talk and converse like normal felines, why invite them at all?
Wanting to get the conversation going, and curious about the other Clans, she posed a question to the TreeClan tom and the NightClan she-cat. "Ospreywing told me that TreeClan cats live in a fallen tree, and that NightClan cats live underground. Is that true?" How strange, to live under the earth. Honeypaw could scarcely imagine it, though living in a fallen tree seemed much more reasonable.
Except... how big did this tree have to be to support a whole Clan? No matter what Stonepaw or Squirrelpaw said, the answer was sure to be fascinating.
