It was evening, at least he assumed it to be evening as the air was cooler and most of the sounds of day fairing prey had ceased. He heard something with wings take the air, the flutter of wings loud in the quiet of the clearing. Finding his way here was a matter of experience, of time walking these paths over and over as the moons went on and he aged. He knew these lands, knew each path that made up the territory he called his home. So long as he didn't leave LightningClan, his future was assured. Even as old as he was he still hunted actively, though that wasn't what brought him here tonight. Tonight he'd asked his clan leader if she'd meet him out here. He wanted to speak with her, just the two of them, away from the eyes of the clan. Sightless gray eyes still pointed to the starlit sky he could no longer picture. His world had been darkness for so long that he no longer remembered how things used to look, what color was and what the world looked like. It was alright, he didn't miss it. It was only in his deepest kept secrets that sight even mattered. Like wondering what Whitesparrow looked like, or wishing he knew his own features. He had a sense of himself as a whole, but didn't know how his colors had changed as he aged, how his features had matured. These were things he couldn't change, but still he wondered. He awaited his leader's time, and that was a precious thing. They were, he knew, half-siblings. Not that the half part really mattered to him. He had no family of his own, had never taken a mate and no longer tracked his parents, so a sibling was something he wished very much to have. Still, rather or not she would be pleased with his attempt to get to know her better, as a sibling should, was up for debate. After all, what seasoned warrior, especially one now the leader of a clan, wanted to claim a deformed tom like him? Wildstripe snorted at himself and pushed at his melancholy. In the least he would know if she was even aware that they shared the same father. His tone was soft as he spoke suddenly, ears flicking in order to detect anyone approaching him, if they made even the slightest noise that is. "I wonder what you see when you look on me from your place in the stars. In the end, does one cat matter in the grand scheme of all things?" He spoke as if to StarClan, though he knew he would never hear them. He was not one of their chosen, just a simple warrior that believed in their existence. But he'd always spoken to them here, since he was a young cat on an unsteady path. It gave him comfort to believe that even if he couldn't hear or see them, they were listening. Tag : Hellion

i'm headed straight for the castle THEY WANNA MAKE ME THEIR QUEEN Her mother had never kept the names of her mate seceret. In fact her now dead mother often bragged about which warriors sired which kits. Firestar was the last litter her mother bore and a single kits. However, Firestar knew she had other siblings, half siblings but none of them cared enough to talk to her.
An older now dead brother, Rabbitnose was perhaps the only one that actually offered to spend time with her, not that it really bothered her in the long run. Firestar hadn't shared the same belief system as her mother. Firestar fell in love, chosen a life-long mate in Russetfall and never once thought about having a tom share her test just to give their possible kits a better chance. Firestar was overly proud of her kits, Wildcall and Mapleheart were perfection in her eyes.
However, despite all that Firestar was surprised when Wildstripe wandered into her den to ask if she would meet him outside of camp. She knew of their shared sire but despite that she wondered what his intentions were. Wildstripe's blindness was no secret to the clan and despite it he was able to hunt and maintain an active warrior life. She doubted he wanted to retire, he was only two moon older than her and likely able to carry on for many more.
She agreed to their meeting but as she let him go ahead of her Firestar contemplated their relationship. Wildstripe was a stranger. A tom she knew was her half-brother only because her mother bragged about it. They didn't spend much time together, not that it was his fault or even her own.
"How are you going to treat him?" Came the voice of her mate as he brushed along side her. Firestar knew what he was talking about but found herself unable to answer. He wasn't her 'brother' they didn't nurse from the same mother nor did they have the same struggles. However, that didn't sit right with Firestar. Even as she groomed her pelt before setting out of her den, Firestar found it almost cruel not to treat him kindly. Regardless of how they grew up Firestar would treat him as kin, because he was.
" I applogize for being late, brother," She greeted him from his left, moving to sit on that same side. Her short calico fur barely touching his. She wondered for a moment if he would appreciate her gesture of calling him brother. Then again it too had a choice. it was up to him if they were going to be 'brother and sister'.

He heard her soft pawsteps, of course, but didn't turn to greet her until she'd settled down next to him. His ears swiveled towards her before he turned his head, giving her his absolute attention now that she was here. "Hardly late." He assured her. "Your time has more demands on it than mine, so I'm happy you were able to spare me a moment at all." He was remarkably calm about this entire matter, though his heart was hammering in his chest with nerves.
And then it hit him. She'd called him her brother. He didn't know what look he gave her, but knew he was surprised. "I...didn't expect you to call me that." Large paws swiped back and forth in the grass under his paws, suddenly out of sorts. "I wasn't certain you even knew we were related. I certainly didn't, not until I was an apprentice and my mentor told me." How she'd known he never asked, though assumed it may have been obvious. Maybe they both favored their father?
He took a breath and eased it out, calming his nerves. "I suppose I should explain myself." Ears swiveling around again, checking the area for danger, before fixing back on the she-cat next to him. "I find I don't know how to act, I never really had a sibling before. My littermate didn't survive her first leafbare, and I don't remember her. Honestly, I feared you would reject me." He dropped his head, ears laying back for only a moment in shame of his own thoughts and actions before shooting back up and starting to swivel around again. He couldn't be without a means of knowing what was going on for long. He hated being helpless.
"I wish to know you better, Firestar. You are my leader and I have always and will always serve you loyally and to the best of my abilities. But...I would like it very much to get the chance to know you as my sister as well." He'd been mostly on his own for a long time, and was a little awkward when it came to the more social aspects. He was hardly unsociable, not by a long shot, just when things mattered to him he had a hard time expressing himself properly. there's always a new challenge to keep you motivated background image | sean connery | Hellion | table by phoenix

i'm headed straight for the castle THEY WANNA MAKE ME THEIR QUEEN Wildstripe's blindness was not a secret to anyone in the clan, but it still had Firestar nervous about him remaining a warrior. He was very capable to hunt and defend himself, but it still worried the leader that he would get hurt by some other means. She wondered if there was a way to ask him to check in with some each time he left, the buddy system in a way to ensure he came back safely and hadn't gotten lost. However, Firestar stopped herself from evening forming a question. He was a warrior and she didn't need to worry about him like that.
Her ears flickered hearing the sound of surprise in his voice. "We didn't grow up together but we still share blood. That makes us family," She told him with a tiny smile. Hearing that he didn't know they were related until he was older came as a surprise for the she-cat. Her own mother was quite vocal about her mates and it was never a secret.
"My mother was proud of the mates she picked. She wanted everyone to know and thus I knew when I was really little. But I think because of what happened to your sister I wasn't aloud to play with you. Plus you were older," She added almost like an afterthought. He took in a breath and with that he pulled Firestar's entire attention. What he had to say seemed very importnat and Firestar wanted to award him with the courtesy of her attention.
She smiled as she heard what he said but then she realized he couldn't see the look on her face. Instead the leader of LightingClan pressed her head into his shoulder like siblings do and nuzzled him kindly. "I've wanted the same. Family has always been important to me and you will always be my brother. I look forward to getting to know you even if its almost 70 moons late," She purred with a hint of teasing in her voice. She might be the respected leader of LighitngClan but she did know how to have fun and make a light hearted joke. FIRESTAR background image | castle | table by phoenix | Justice | 354

The she-cat next to him was wise not to bring up his warrior status. Wildstripe had fought long and hard, pushing himself more than a normal warrior usually did, just to compensate for his blindness. He was a capable warrior and hunter, and he had fought against being anything else for his entire life. It would have hurt something inside him to hear that his sister and leader didn't believe he should be a warrior. Or remain a warrior. It was a conversation best left unsaid.
"My father left right after my sister died. I never knew where he went or what happened to him, and I didn't care. Any tom that abandons his mate, regardless of the reason, is not a cat I want to associate myself with." He dipped his head. "My mother was never the same, after he left. She loved him, and he abandoned her right after my sister died." He did not say that, though he knew his mother was alive, he had lost track of what she was up to in the clan.
He dipped his head, calming himself before he got any more worked up. "Forgive me. I suppose he had his reasons, I just don't understand them. And I shouldn't have let myself get angry in front of you." It had just come out when she mentioned her mother. "But I must, in a way, appreciate what he did, because you came from their union. A fine she-cat, a leader, and my sister."
That she wasn't allowed to play with him made his head quirk to one side. "Most likely that was only what they told you. They may not have wanted you to associate with the defective kit in the nursery." They weren't that far apart in age, after all, and would have been in the nursery together at one point, if only for a short time.
That she nuzzled him, that she wanted to show him affection, that meant more to him than he could ever express. He'd live largely alone his entire life, having never taken a mate or had an apprentice. So this, just the simplicity of having someone care enough to nuzzle him and press against his side, that made him very happy.
His ears swiveled towards her and a smile crossed onto his features, beaming at her. "Better late than never." there's always a new challenge

i'm headed straight for the castle THEY WANNA MAKE ME THEIR QUEEN Firestar's ears twitched upon hearing that their father had left his first mate's side after Wildstripe's, or own half sister, died. It was troubling. Firestar had different views then her mother in terms of having and keeping a mate. She viewed it as a life-long partnership, one that had to be cultivated for an extended period of time. Firestar's own relationship with Russetfall had its ups and downs, especially once she became deputy. Now as leader it was easier to make time for him, but memories of him telling her he felt ignored still stuck with her. Firestar wanted Russetfall to be happy. Even if that meant more work her for in the long run.
Hearing Wildstripe explain that his own mother was upset after their father left only continued Firestar's dislike for her father. Her own relationship with Flametail was already minimal. He'd greet her kindly and once when she was younger he said he was proud of her, but had he expressed that to Wildstripe? Unsure if that was something she should bring up, Firestar left it unsaid as well.
"That is truly terrible. Some toms are not suited for fatherhood. It appears that our own sire is one of those toms," She stated plainly. Her tone very matter-of-fact. As her thoughts went on to wonder about her now dead half-sister, Firestar couldn't help but think they would have been closer. Perhaps she will visit from StarClan.
Despite Wildstripe's praise, Firestar was not happy with her parent's union and made it known. "My mother wasn't a very kind she-cat. She was far too concerned with what her kits did instead of what she did. I only wished she would have used her ambition for something greater than mothering litters and breaking up relationships," Firestar's words were harsh about her mother. It was common knowledge that Firestar and her now dead mother had a rocky relationship, neither of them seemed to care about the other outside of their blood relationship.
"I admire you Wildstripe. You have overcome a lot, while your condition does concern me sometimes. I know you are a strong warrior and clearly capable of being a true and loyal cat of LightingClan," Firestar's words were softer than before, kinder in when speaking to him. She didn't want him to think she was challenging his role as a warrior even if it came out that way.
"I must admit that I'm not sure how older siblings interact," She added with a soft laugh. "I rarely see my own kits together, Wildcall seems to be more concerned with causing trouble," She spoke fondly of her son, which prompted her to ask Wildstripe about such things. "Do you plan on having kits? Not to pressure you or anything but I was simply curious. FIRESTAR background image | castle | table by phoenix | Justice

Wildstripe ducked his head a little at her praise, never one to be arrogant when others spoke highly of him. He was a simple cat, whishing only for those things that many cats took for granted. Family, a home, safety. Things being in a clan provided for him for the most part. "I have never let my condition slow me down. The hardest part was growing up unable to see and my body being large and awkward without my having any idea how to judge where I was in relation to everything around me. I was a very clumsy apprentice. My mentor used to laugh at me all the time for it. After she fussed because I'd fallen over my too big paws for the umpteenth time. She meant well, so I never minded her laughter." He rolled his shoulders a bit and settled, wrapping his tail around his paws as he looked back at the sky.
"I can't imagine belonging anywhere else, Firestar. LightningClan is all I have ever known, and all I wish to know. In some clans my blindness would have landed me an early retirement, if I'd been allowed to train at all. Then where would I have been? Useless doesn't sit well with me. At all."
His head turned back towards the she-cat along with the swivel of his ever expressive ears when she admitted to not knowing how to interact with him. "The same way you interact with anyone that is kin to you. With affection and mutal admiration. You are all the family that remains willing to see me as more than just that blind tom who stubbornly refused to be anything other than a warrior." He flashed a smile, pleased with himself and with her. "I see a sibling, no matter the age, being someone one can go to whenever they need an ear, someone that knows all their secrets and protects them, a best friend. More, I see us, as siblings, being able to just sit like this sometimes. Under the sky, with a sea of stars overhead and StarClan watching over us as they watch over all cats."
Her final question made the smile fall off his features, his shoulders slumping forward along with the dip of his head. "I...sincerely doubt any she-cat would have me. Who wants a mate that is so limited in how he can protect she and any kits that might come along? I want a family, a mate and kits, but...she'd have to be a very special she-cat indeed, to accept me for who I am. Blindness and all." there's always a new challenge to keep you motivated background image | sean connery | Hellion | table by phoenix

i'm headed straight for the castle THEY WANNA MAKE ME THEIR QUEEN Firestar listened to her brother with a sort of calm smile. It was nice to know that he approached his blindness with such grace. She felt pride in him, knowing that her brother was strong hearted and able to overcome such a condition. A quality she wished more of her clan-mates had, some seemed to let their situation rules them. She only briefly wondered if he could have been her deputy. But a stern voice reminded her that a blind deputy wouldn't serve the clan well, no matter how much Firestar admired him. She noted that he often looked toward the sky. Was he able to sense something from the lights up there? Did StarClan speak to him?
His voice carried and only further Firestar's love for him. He was perhaps one of her greatest warrior simply because of his loyalty to the Clan.
She was amazed by his words about family and found herself unable to reply right away. Wildstripe had a way with words that left her empowered and stronger just by hearing them.
"I will take you up on that offer brother," She finally told him brushing her head against his shoulder, purring her words.
Watching the smile fall from his face Firestar suddeningly regretted her question. She wanted to apologize right away but he answered before she had the chance.
"I have faith you will find someone, I believe there is someone for everyone," She told him, trying to offer a bit of comfort but wasn't sure if she managed it at all. Returning her gaze toward the sky she offered a prayer to StarClan, asking them to honor Wildstripe with some kind of true happiness in thanks for all his hard work. For a brief moment silence filled the air between them until Firestar felt the urge to yawn.
"Lets go home brother, my nest is calling to me," She meowed, breaking the silence and her words were quickly followed by a yawn. Firestar rose to her paws and waited for Wildstripe to rise up and follow her home. FIRESTAR background image | castle | table by phoenix | Justice finished ?
