Cloudpool
It was finally beginning to feel like Leaf-fall, and it had been even harder to leave her nest this morning with Blackwing's warmth surrounding her. However, Cloudpool had her duties, training her apprentice Birchpaw, and she wanted to check on the queens and kits first to ask how they were doing and find out if they needed her for anything. Also to see how Fernkit was faring. After her excursion the other day, Cloudpool had tried to help Ashwhisker keep her under close observation.
The mostly white she-cat paused for a luxurious stretch after emerging from the nursery, spotting Silentsong puttering around camp. Cloudpool arched her back to finish her stretch and then smiled warmly at the she-cat. The calico warrior had begun to get lethargic in the mornings, and had gained some weight, as well as a sort of... glow. Her scent had begun to change too, a subtle change, but one which Cloudpool recognized from so much exposure. Silentsong had not revealed her pregnancy yet to the clan, and she was obviously still early on, only a little more than a quarter moon probably. With a chuckle, Cloudpool stepped towards the she-cat, of all the she-cats in the clan she was probably the closest to Bluejay with the understanding of how she-cats bodies worked during pregnancy.
"Good morning Silentsong, how are you? Have you eaten yet?" Cloudpool remembered that she had always been starving while she was pregnant, especially in the mornings, but some she-cats would have a nauseous feeling and refuse to eat until sometime after Sunhigh. "Or are you the kind of she-cat to feel sick in the mornings? If you are, Im sure Bluejay can help you with that, on top of whatever other herbs she is giving you."
Especially being pregnant in Leaffall and Leafbare medicine cats usually gave queens strengthening herbs, and depending on how restless or uncomfortable they were, a medicine cat may give out herbs to calm them down. It was simple practice to ensure they were healthy. Cloudpool had had them herself during her last pregnancy.
"If you havent eaten, would you like to share a meal? Im sure you have questions or concerns, and while Im sure Bluejay has answered all of them, she doesn't have personal experience, and I would love to help you through this probably confusing time."

[smear:000000]Silent[/smear:ff6633][smear:ff6633]song[/smear:ffffff] ~~~~~~~~~
The tortoiseshell tabby lay sprawled in her nest, paws reaching out in a luxurious stretch as a silent purr rumbled in throat. This nest is so. Warm. So perfectly warm~ She thought to herself in an almost singsong voice. Hazel-green eyes were barely open, half-lidded as she basked in the coziness that was her nest. A little huff escaped her, the sudden rush of air disturbing the feathers lining the edge of her nest. Why did Zephyrfang have to be assigned to the Dawn Patrol? She lamented silently, her plume-like tail swishing over the empty space where her mate would normally lie.
With a little effort, she rolled herself over into his spot, wiggling about slightly in hopes of kicking up some of his scent. Burying her nose under a piece of moss, her inner voice gave a drawn out (and a slightly overly dramatic) sigh. It's good... But it's not amazing. It would be an amazing nest if he was here. She thought with unquestionable certainty. Pawing distractedly at a stray ball of moss and feathers, Silentsong's sleepy gaze drifted toward the entrance of the warriors' den. A small part of her, somewhere in the corner of her mind, was nagging softly. You should be helping your Clan. It said.
...But I'm so warm. She countered. An unexpected, and definitely audible growl from her stomach had the she-cat's ears pricking forward. Giggling silently, she maneuvered herself into a sit, giving her fluffy coat a good shake before hauling herself to her paws. I swear that gets more and more difficult with every day. Must be the coming Leafbare. She thought absently, allowing her stomach to dictate when it was time to eat. Her stomach seemed to grow more and more demanding with each passing day; the she-cat didn't remember ever eating this much before.
Mentally shrugging it off, she rose to her paws and plodded outside with steps that were equal parts dainty and heavy. The sun that managed to peek into the camp hit her fur, providing perfect warm patches that left her smiling contently to herself. She'd been directing herself toward the fresh kill pile, just enjoying life, when a white and black she-cat seemed to appear out of nowhere. Ears flashed forward in surprise, her hazel-green eyes blinking in a reflection of her alarm as Silentsong processed Cloudpool's sudden question. Glancing toward the fresh kill pile, she shook her head in an indication that she had not in fact eaten yet.
As Skyfall's mother continued, the tortoiseshell warrioress' face morphed into the picture of cluelessness. One paw was raised rather comically in the air, as though she'd actually been frozen mid-step. Her head, which had begun tipping slightly as Cloudpool had mentioned herbs (Why would Bluejay be giving me herbs? I'm not sick...), was oriented such that her ears were nearly parallel to the ground at her paws. Questions? Concerns? Personal experience? FOOD? As caught up as she was in her surprise and confusion, Silentsong could not even begin to attempt to formulate some chain of actions that would ask Cloudpool what in StarClan's name she was talking about.
As it was, the best she could manage were two drawn out, and utterly lost blinks of her moon-wide eyes.

Cloudpool
While compared to some cats, Cloudpool didnt talk much, Blackwing liked to say she chattered almost as much as a chickadee, and liked to joke with her that maybe that's what she should have been named after. Times like these, when Cloudpool started on a tangent and had no one to interrupt her, where very unfortunate in that regard. It was not until the end of her spiel that she caught the look of utter befuddlement on Silnetsong's face. It halted Cloudpool's stream and she kind of stood almost as slack-jawed as the other she-cat and began to feel very subconscious, her pelt prickling with embarassment.
"I'm so sorry sweetie, I didn't mean to intrude on your reflection. If you'd rather not talk about this right now I ca--" That's when it hurt her, almost like an acorn falling from the coloring trees. Oh. OH. "Silentsong.... you do know you're pregnant?" Cloudpool said in a quiet breathy voice.
In so many ways, Cloudpool should have guessed that the reason the she-cat had not announced to the clan, and that it had not gotten around in clan gossip was because no one actually knew. But her experience queen eyes had picked up the signs, possibly before even Bluejay had, although she had been so busy and a bit off-kilter since Littletimber. No wonder the Silenstong looked confused.
"You're so much hungrier in the mornings now right? You're belly is sensitive, and you have this urge to continuously groom it. Its harder to get up in the mornings. Sometimes you are clingy with Zephyrfang and other times you just want to snap at him, and sometimes it can switch almost instantaneously? Are any of these correct?"
She really didnt want to overwhelm the she-cat, but she was trying to identify her symptoms. Depending on the different ones she exhibited, it would be more clear how far she was along. Since she was so fluffy, it was almost no wonder most cats hadnt noticed.
"Look, if you don't know... where is Zephyrfang sweetie? He might want to be present for this discussion, its hard sometimes for first mothers...."
This situation was just getting more and more awkward by the minute.

[smear:000000]Silent[/smear:ff6633][smear:ff6633]song[/smear:ffffff] ~~~~~~~~~
With an audible plop, Silentsong's rump dropped to the ground. Hazel-green eyes still gazed at Cloudpool in pure bewilderment, the mute warrioress doing her best to churn this information through her brain. There was a piece of her that thought that was just silly; surely she would know if she were pregnant! But at the same time... Cloudpool had well-known experience surrounding pregnancies. She'd been a queen herself, and dedicated much of her time to the queens, ensuring they wanted for nothing. The tortoiseshell tabby's ears pricked forward, before laying back in an uncertain dance as Silentsong considered Cloudpool's statement.
A worried gaze met the older she-cat's. She couldn't figure out how she should feel. Silentsong had always wanted to have kits, and she was fairly certain Zephyrfang felt the same way; after all, it had been much of the basis for him suggesting she change her name from Brokensong. She wanted kits, yet she couldn't help but wonder... What if they were also born mute, just as she had been? True, she made it this far just fine, but... It hadn't been easy, and the last thing she wanted was for one of her kits to be forced to live through it too.
As Cloudpool continued with a list of little signs that were all too familiar to her in recent days, the mute warrioress couldn't help but maneuver herself a little to stare at her stomach. It wasn't obvious beneath all her fur, yet something told her Cloudpool had had other techniques to pick up on it. Has... Has anyone else noticed? Has Bluejay noticed it? Can she tell me for sure? Doing her best to nod along with Cloudpool's word and paint a better picture for the other cat, (she ended up nodding to most, save for snapping at Zephyrfang. Sometimes she got a little huffy... But she couldn't recall a time he was the focus of her ruffled fur.) Silentsong couldn't help but gulp quietly.
At the mention of Zephyrfang, the she-cat's ears pricked. Shuffling her paws nervously, she looked over her shoulder sadly, in the direction of the entrance. Movement there caused a butterfly of hope to flutter in her chest, Silentsong subconsciously holding her breath and hoping to see that familiar tabby pelt push through. And then, as though StarClan were truly listening, he appeared. Leaping to her paws (albeit a little less gracefully than she'd once been), her plume-like tail began waving to-and-fro in what could only be described as a cry for help.
She danced on her paws as she desperately signalled to Zephyrfang, not stopping until his amber gaze landed on her, a mixture of worry and alarm dominating his gaze. As he approached, closing the distance between himself and the two she-cats, Silentsong looked back over at Cloudpool, lowering herself into a bow and shuffling closer to the older she-cat. If her almost-submissive pose wasn't enough to convey her message, her wide-eyed and pleading expression would certainly do the trick.
Help.

46 Moons. Silentsong's Mate. Tom. Zephyrfang called a greeting to his mate through a mouthful of squirrel fur, the catch he'd made while on a border patrol with Sandstrike, Appleshade and Meadowleaf. Everyone else in the Clan faded to background-chatter as Silentsong frantically waved him over with her multi-colored tail, the plume waving madly in the air as though trying to attract every cat in the clearing. A few cats did look up, but it was clear as stream-water that she was talking to him and no one else; with an increased sense of urgency pricking his heart like thorns, Zephyrfang hastily threw the squirrel onto the fresh kill pile (it landed a foxlength away from it; eh, close enough) and trotted over to meet her.
"Everything okay, Silentsong?" The tawny striped warrior leaned over and nuzzled her cheek, breathing in her scent in a brief moment of affection that lingered in his eyes when he pulled away, his tail tip twitching at the concern showing in the eyes of both she-cats. What's going on? Did one of those little mousetails go missing again? 'mousetail' was his amusing nickname for the kits in the nursery; once upon a time, they'd been no longer than a mouse's tail, suckling from their mothers' bellies, with hardly a care in the world. Zephyrfang wasn't one for kits—other Clanmates' kits, that is—his interest in the nursery not so much lying in the present as it did in the future.
Zephyrfang wasn't sure he believed in StarClan, but if they had any say in the matter, then he hoped they were looking upon them fondly. He knew he was a loner, probably not pure enough by Clan standards, but he couldn't even give a heap of fox-dung if that bothered anyone else. That didn't mean he wouldn't be a great father, though, and he knew Silentsong would be an amazing mother. She was already amazing at everything else she did—and so cute he never wanted to let her leave his sights for even a moment—raising a family wouldn't be so hard.
If this was a happier occasion, Zephyrfang would've jokingly asked if Silentsong was joining Cloudpool in the nursery. However, something else seemed amiss, judging by the way she danced to and fro and all but crawled to the older warrioress, begging for help. What are you trying to tell me, Silentsong? It must have been urgent if she was trying to get Cloudpool to do the speaking for her. The fur on his neck lifted slightly in concern, but he metaphorically dug his claws in and watched with gleaming amber eyes.

Cloudpool
As the she-cat listed many different symptoms she noticed Silentsong nodding, but also slightly deflating, bit by bit. It broke Cloudpool's heart to see her so confused and uncertain, clearly the other she-cat had no idea what to do. The queen shuffled her paws awkwardly. She really hadnt meant to so distress Silentsong, it served her right for meddling in other cat's busines, but now it was too late.
Silentsong became agitated when Cloudpool mentioned Zephyrfang, and glanced nervously at the entrance. Oh he must be out on patrol, this just kept getting more and more complicated.
"I'm sorry this is so sudden, but... there are many she-cats in the clan and queens who would love to help you through this, and Bluejay will make sure you're healthy...."
As Cloudpool was speaking Silentsong waved her tail franticly to get her mate's attention, and now severl cats were looking at them with curiosity. Cloudpool could almost hear Blackwing smirking at her for making a scene. Heat started to prickle at her ears and her tail flickered in embarrassment. Zephyrfang joined them with a look of deep concern.
"Uhh eheh, I guess I shouldn't have muddled where I shouldn't have. I was so sure that Silnetsong would be excited... Zephyrfang, Silentsong is carrying your kits." A sheepish smile filled Cloudpool's muzzle as she chuckled awkwardly. "I think I startled her. But Blue jay will be able to tell you better how far along she is, as well as provide herbs and care for her. I do think though that squirrel might be a good meal for your mate, being pregnant can make you ferociously hungry."
She looked at the two of them, "Alright I'll let you two discuss this, Im sure you need a few moments, if you have any questions though I will be nearby, and can help out anyway you would like. I know what is its like to be pregnant." she said with a wink, before turning to go lie down by the entrance of the warriors den.

[smear:000000]Silent[/smear:ff6633][smear:ff6633]song[/smear:ffffff] ~~~~~~~~~
As Cloudpool filled Zephyrfang in on what had been revealed to her this morning, Silentsong continued to shift from paw to paw, nervously dancing in place. She knew it was silly to be worried about what Zephyrfang might think of this news. She knew that he would never leave her, especially not in a time that she needed him the most. Yet, despite how many times she told herself how absolutely ridiculous what she was feeling right now was, she couldn't stop. Convinced that these fluctuating emotions were caused by an imbalance in her hormones, she felt more and more sure that Cloudpool was right. She was pregnant.
And then it was all out in the open. Silentsong's hazel-green gaze watched her paws as they shuffled, still unnecessarily anxious of how the tabby tom would react to this news. Slowly, she managed to glance at Cloudpool, dipping her head to the older she-cat in thanks for helping her deliver the news. She watched as the white and black she-cat padded off, evidently going to lay down nearby. Silentsong's heart fluttered against her rib cage, and despite the overwhelming concern she held for what Zephyrfang's final reaction would be, she couldn't stop thinking about how good the squirrel smelled.
With a deep inhale, the tortoiseshell tabby drew her eyes up to meet Zephyrfang's amber ones. Her ears were tilted slightly, eyes bright with worry, yet there was excitement there too. Despite her initial shock, despite the uncertainty of all of this... She wanted to have kits. She wanted to have his kits. Her mouth twitched slightly, a sheepish smile spreading over her lips as the pair were left alone. Reaching forward she nosed his shoulder tentatively, her tail wrapping more tightly around herself almost as though she were self-conscious. When she looked at him, her eyes read one thing.
...Surprise?

46 Moons. Silentsong's Mate. Tom. "Silentsong is carrying your kits."
The tabby warrior froze, as if Cloudpool's words had struck him square between the eyes. Though his posture said what? His eyes were alive and bright, Zephyrfang laughing suddenly, the sound more of a burst of joy than any expression of humor. "She is? You are?" Zephyrfang couldn't keep still, his thoughts all rushing around inside his head like a leaves in a storm, bumping into one another, making it difficult to speak.
Yes! Throwing an appreciative grin at Cloudpool, he meant to tell her thanks for both her advice and her assessment, but he was blindsided by Silentsong, her little nod of confirmation enough to bowl him over. Zephyrfang purred, loudly, not caring if the entire camp heard him or if it echoed throughout the whole hollowed out tree. "They're going to be the most beautiful kits in the world, Silentsong." He nuzzled her face, rasping his tongue warmly over both of her ears before touching his nose to hers. Kits! Finally!
"Are you warm enough? Did you eat enough? You shouldn't be walking around like this--" Zephyrfang glanced around and caught a hapless apprentice under his gleaming amber gaze, signaling the youngster to come over. "I want you to go find me the softest moss in the whole forest, got it? It's for Silentsong, so there'd better not be thorns in there."
The apprentice looked as if they wanted to protest, but Zephyrfang had already forgotten about them, turning back to Silentsong with a look of giddiness and affection so strong it would've embarrassed onlookers. Wanting to wrap his tail around her and herd her back to their nests until their kits arrived, he had to stop himself from turning into an overgrown bumblebee, buzzing around her as if she were the only flower in the whole forest.
I can't wait to tell Amara. His sister would be happy for them. And so would Feathercloud and Thornstrike, as well as Stonepaw, of course. I'll just tell the whole Clan! The Ancient Stump was for announcements, right? Important Clan news? In the tawny warrior's eyes, there was nothing more important than this.
Operating on a fatherhood-induced high, Zephyrfang nuzzled her again for good measure, his sweeping gaze searching for Bluejay, who was easily his next target for his 'take care of Silentsong' mission.
"I hope they all come out like you," he murmured in her ear, pressing close. "StarClan, I dunno if I can survive the wait."

[smear:000000]Silent[/smear:ff6633][smear:ff6633]song[/smear:ffffff] ~~~~~~~~~
His reaction, the light dancing in his eyes... It was more than she could have ever hoped for; it ignited the light in her eyes. His purr was all she could hear, loud and comforting in her ears as he rasped his tongue over them. Nuzzling against his shoulder, she only pulled away because he did, so that they could press their noses together tenderly. He defintiely couldn't hear the sound, and he was likely moving about far too excitedly to feel it, but the tortoiseshell she-cat met his purr with her own, glee illuminating her hazel-green eyes.
His tumbling questions had her nodding and shaking her head in rapid succession, the poor thing needing to take a seat to avoid toppling over from the dizziness. Smiling apologetically at the apprentice he managed to rope into fetching her moss, the TreeClan warrioress glanced back toward Zephyrfang just in time to be nuzzled again. Jaws parting in a silent mew, she cuddled against his chest, pulling in his scent happily. This was what she had missed earlier, when he'd gone off to participate in patrols. This is perfect. She thought contently, hazel eyes drifting closed just so. I knew it was silly to worry...
An unexpected rumble disturbed the pregnant she-cat from her cuddling. Blinking in surprise, she stepped back and grinned sheepishly, wondering if he'd heard it. Batting her eyelashes at him to draw his curious gaze, she dropped into a playful bow, one paw reaching out to poke his larger brown paw. Her plume-like tail waved rhythmically behind her as she slowly, and very obviously, looked toward the fresh-kill pile. Toward that squirrel he'd tossed some foxlength away from the pile. And then her gaze ventured back to his tabby-striped form, that same sheepish grin spreading the length of her maw.
Her thoughts were a mixture of joy, Zephyrfang, and an insatiable desire to eat her weight in prey.

46 Moons. Silentsong's Mate. Tom. Zephyrfang laughed, running his tail over the length of her spine in a reassuring gesture. "Hungry? In that case, I'll be right back." He didn't care that she hadn't hunted for the Clan yet; as far as he could tell, she didn't need to, not any more. With a low rumbling purr that caught the bewildered attention of every cat that he briefly crossed paths with, Zephyrfang went to the fresh kill pile and snatched up the squirrel he'd caught earlier.
Sprucefur, returning with a finch and a sparrow, frowned at him. "Is that for Silentsong?"
"Yeah," he mewed through a mouthful of squirrel fur.
The pale warrior, who had been up several hours already, glanced at Silentsong. His frown increased, and Zephyrfang stared him down smugly as the warrior dared question his intentions. "Has she been hunting for the Clan yet?"
"Nope. She doesn't need to."
Sprucefur stared at him in disbelief. "Zephyrfang, you know that's not how the Clan works—"
But he was already bounding away from the pale tom, holding onto the squirrel as he ushered Silentsong off to one side, so they could eat and cuddle in peace. Well, she could eat; he would groom her fur while she did so, the tawny warrior unwilling to leave her side now that he knew she was carrying his kits.
The tabby tom couldn't stop purring as he licked the tangles out of her pretty tortoiseshell and white pelt, going over her ears and the top of her head with affectionate diligence.
This is going to be great. He felt not even an ounce of doubt over this. She was wonderful, kind, smart, adorable—and he knew he could be a better father than his own. Zephyrfang had always played by his own rules; followed no one's example but his own. Raising kits sounded like a fun endeavor, and StarClan was he looking forward to it!
