So let go, let go, jump in. Oh well, what you waiting for?
After running a tad late for the last medicine cat meeting, Dawnblossom was determined to be one of the first to arrive this time to show that it would not become a habit. She had asked Duskflower to be part of her escort and had been about to ask Darkfrost again when she remembered just how much time her youngest sister seemed to be spending with a certain senior warrior. It wasn't normally her style to try to set two cats up with time for each other, but Duskflower was her sister, and a cat she knew for a fact would appreciate a little help. After all, Duskflower enjoyed trying to do things like that for other cats.
So she had approached Eagletalon, asking if he wouldn't mind being part of her escort to the meeting. From what she knew of the tom, he was a pretty easygoing cat and wasn't surprised that he readily agreed, even before she had told him which cat was taking up a second role in the escort. As the sun set over the valley, Dawnblossom dropped a small bundle of strengthening herbs before Duskflower and Eagletalon. StoneClan was fortunate enough to be the closest Clan to the Moon Tree so they had the least distance to travel, but it still wasn't exactly an easy journey into the mountains.
After she had been sure the two of them had swallowed the concoction, she led the way out of camp, passing Duskflower with a wink, to which her sister had giggled softly. She kept ahead of the two, giving them enough space for some quiet, private chatter between them, but close enough that should their services as escort actually be required, they would be able to assist her readily enough. She occasionally heard her sister's soft giggle, her whiskers twitching with affection and amusement, but she tried not to pay their conversation any attention.
She wasn't nosy about such things like Duskflower was. She was just happy her sister seemed to have found a new companion after Silverstorm's death. Her sister's relationship with the tom had been rather unique, a mateship born of friendship and mutual desire for a family, and not of the usual romantic love that spurred the vast majority of cats into starting families. They had been friends, first and foremost, neither of them ever reaching that point of deep love she and Brackentail had had for each other. Duskflower missed Silverstorm, to be sure, but his loss had not ripped open a gaping hole in her heart that could never be filled by another cat.
Dawnblossom's ears twitched at the thought that had solidified her desire to return to being a medicine cat. She was confident she would never, and did not WANT to, find another cat to replace Brackentail in her life. He was the only thing that could have ever torn her away from her life as a medicine cat, and without him, she knew her true calling. She often wondered if StarClan had taken him from her specifically to send her back to the correct path, the path StoneClan needed her on. She could not blame them, if they had. The Clan was far more important than her own selfish desires. But it brought on another wave of guilt over his death. If she had just followed her path from the beginning, would Brackentail still be alive?
She shook her head as the cave entrance that lead to the Moon Tree came into view. It wasn't prudent to think like that. She parted her jaws, tasting the air for other scents, but there was nothing fresh on the air. Ears angling forward in surprise, she paused, looking back at her companions, “It seems we're the first to arrive. You two can make yourselves comfortable. We should be safe here.” Even outside the Moon Tree's cavern, Dawnblossom felt StarClan presence more strongly, feeling as though they would allow no harm to come to any cat that rested here. Whether that was true or not, she could not say, but she enjoyed the peaceful feeling the thought brought with it. She padded farther from the two of them, closer to the cavern entrance, and sat with her tail curled around her paws to await the arrival of her peers.

Bluejay arrived shortly after StoneClan’s medicine cat, Dawnblossom, and her escorts. It was going to be her first time standing in front of her peers as TreeClan’s full-fledged medicine cat, and their first time hearing about Littletimber’s untimely passing. She didn’t linger on her gloomy train of thought for very long in fear of souring her mood on such an important night. She missed her mentor dearly, and she oftentimes wondered if he had moved on to StarClan before he could teach her everything there was to know, but she believed her ancestors wouldn’t put her in such a compromising position if she was unable to handle it. He had taught her well, and even if she was still a little inexperienced, she knew she was going to turn out fine in the end.
“It’s nice to see you again, Dawnblossom.” The StoneClan medicine cat had been kind enough to complete Bluejay’s ceremony in Littletimber’s place when he had been unable to attend the last meeting. It occurred to her that his absence could easily be misinterpreted as continued sickness, and she dreaded the moment she would have to announce him dead. Feeling a little uneasy, if not a little light-headed on top of it, she offered Dawnblossom a small, but tight smile as she settled at her side in wait of the rest of the medicine cats.

"Are you two ready?" Swanfeather asked the two warriors as they licked their chops clean of any leftover herbs. Cloudstrike nodded in agreement as Ivoryfoot flicked her tail to show she was ready. Rising up to her paws Swanfeather departed out of her den and toward the exit. Leopardyowl gave her a parting glance. His mate had just finished grooming his fur and tilted her head in farewell also. Swanfeather didn't linger and quickly found the well known path to the moontree. It was sort of funny how well her paws knew the trail. Even if she lived to be one hundred moon old she'd still be able to find her way to the most sacred of places. As they made the trip her pace faltered as she realized that once again she'd have to wait for Ottersplash before arriving. "It is important that we keep up appearances until that retched fox if gone. We will wait here for Ottersplash to arrive before going on," She told the two warriors with her. Ivoryfoot complained for a moment but a cold look for Swanfeather shut her up quickly. Like last time they waited for Ottersplash to arrive. Chaos. RainClan was chaos. Ottersplash shuddered as he prepared the last bundle of herbs for the journey to the Moon Tree. His dream the night before, waking to a dead body on his doorstep, having another before the sun had set, it all weighed heavily on the tom's narrow shoulders. Pawsteps outside his den alerted him to the presence of his escort. Picking up the two bundles of herbs (his own already settling into his stomach), he padded out of the den. He dropped the herbs at Russethawk's and Dawnstep's paws, waiting while they ate them. His eyes found their way over to the dark forms of Vultureback and Duckquack, laid out in the center of camp while a few cats sat vigil. He couldn't suppress a shiver and tore his gaze away. Seeing that the two warriors had finished and were ready to go, he swallowed and nodded his head, brushing past them and leading the way out of camp. He leapt over the camp stream, setting a swift pace to the mountains. As they drew closer to the place where he and Swanfeather had met the the last time his fur prickled with unease. How much did she know of what had transpired over the past day? Did StarClan send her a warning? Did Swanfeather know two warriors were dead? Did... did she order the murders? A small shiver ran down his spine at the thought. Russethawk noticed and flicked his tailtip against Ottersplash's side. "Keep that up and they'll all know something's wrong." Ottersplash looked at him with wide eyes a moment before swallowing hard and nodding his head sharply. Trying to relax himself, or at least appear that way, Ottersplash's pace slowed slightly. He gave himself the chance to take some deep breaths in an effort to calm his nerves. Glancing up, he spotted Swanfeather's patrol, and nearly lost what little calm he had gathered. His steps faltered, but he forced himself ahead, giving Swanfeather and her two warriors a curt nod. He didn't trust himself to speak, so instead gestured for Swanfeather to take the lead. Three became six, and the patrol made their way to the Moon Tree. As they carried on, a thought came to Ottersplash. If they showed up as two medicine cats with four warriors, the other Clans might get suspicious. Most medicine cats brought one or two warriors, with an occasional apprentice, but never four. Scared to speak up, yet even more scared to face creating a lie before the eyes of medicine cats and StarClan, he gave a small cough and stopped. "S-Swanfeather. If w-we show up in th-this n-number, w-won't the other c-cat's b-be s-suspicious?" He silently cursed the nervous stutter that made his words less clear, but he knew there was very little he could do about it. He looked from Swanfeather to each of the four warriors, wondering how they should proceed. Should two of the warriors stay further behind? If so, which ones? Or would they go as six and face the suspicion? Cloudstrike spoke up then, admitting Ottersplash was right. "Two of us should stay behind." He looked to Russethawk. "Perhaps the younger ones should go ahead, while we remain?" Ottersplash looked to Russethawk as he seemed to consider the proposal. He nodded, then added, "Alright, but let's wait until we're a little closer." Once a general consensus was reached, they carried on, until Russethawk decided they were close enough to the cave, yet still far enough to not raise suspicion. Leaving the two senior warriors behind, Ottersplash, Swanfeather, Dawnstep, and Ivoryfoot walked the rest of the way to the cavern entrance. They greeted the two already there, Dawnblossom and Bluejay, and sat down to wait for NightClan and LightningClan to arrive. Ottersplash looked down at his paws, trying to keep himself from fidgeting nervously. He wrapped his tail tightly around himself, glancing up occasionally to steal a look at the other cats gathered before his eyes quickly found the ground beneath him. It was going to be a long night. eek, i'm sorry. 676 words. Fawn, I hope you don't mind I took a slight liberty with Russethawk. I can change it if you want me to. Same goes to Heli with Cloudstrike. You brought him in, you should have a say, in my opinion. @poptart, Fawn, BlooRey DVD, @zen, Insidious, Hellion

Smokefur diligently prepared two piles of herbs for travel to the moon tree, it was time again for a meeting with her peers. This meeting seemed more important usual to Smokefur as she was absent from their last gathering. Perhaps bringing only one escort would seem weird to the other clans, but Smokefur felt safe traveling across the territories. Life in Nightclan seemed calm and orderly under Dimstar's leadership, however if Smokefur knew of the horrors plaguing Rainclan she would have never risked her life or her escorts life so foolishly. Calling over Bonetail she gave him his pile of herbs and choked down her own whilst trying to keep a straight face, she had done it enough times she figured it would get easier. It never did. With those formalities addressed Smokefur set off with Bonetail at her side, getting him there had been a little bit of a process but Coyotepaw was set to be well taken care of their absence. Smokefur hoped Bonetail felt some degree of excitement being her escort and getting to travel to the moon tree, if not bolstering his pride. The trip seemed short as she had begun to enjoy the toms company over the last few moons, Arriving fashionably late, as always, Smokefur offered a greeting to the other cats and instructed Bonetail to get comfortable. Moving to sit next to Dawnblossom it was obvious the company she wished to keep among their small group.

ROOKFROST The cold eye of the half-moon fell upon the forms of four cats making the long journey to the Moon Tree; a black tom, his pelt sleek under the lunar shine, led the way. In his wake followed a ginger she-cat of small stature, and a much taller striped tom who, if not for the dull, unseeing gray sheen to his eyes, would not appear disabled in any way. Bringing up the rear was a crimson-eyed, white-furred warrioress; the traveling group of cats were silent from the time they first set paw out of camp all the way to the edge of the hollow that contained the Moon Tree.
”Wait here.” Rookfrost dismissed the two warriors with a sharp flick of his tail, his tone colder than most. It was not often that he allowed discomfort to reach him--it was not often that discomfort did, one of the boons of being the medicine cat was that he could administer his own treatment as needed. It had been an entertaining thought, that through the use of his own herb stocks, he could outlive his irritating Clanmates and have the uninterrupted joy of burying the ones he examined and leaving the ones he hated for the carrion birds.
However, old age seemed to be catching up with the black healer at last. Though he and Cherrypool were of the same age, Rookfrost was aware that the number of moons mattered little in the aging process; how one’s parents aged, how one spent one’s life were all major determining factors. Moons only counted as a way to keep record of the time.
Rookfrost addressed the other medicine cats with more curtness. ”We are all in attendance?” When no one spoke up to contradict him, the senior-most medicine cat flicked his jaw towards the entrance, moving in first. ”Then let us proceed. I wish to conduct a ceremony.”
His joints protested the treacherous descent into the hollow, and he withheld a more vocal expression of pain, instead his icy gaze narrowing into jagged points of frost. He heard the faint patter of Kindleflare’s feet landing behind him, as well as the others all one after the other. The Moon Tree held no enchantment for him, so he regarded it with the same frigidity as the tree seemed to regard him; while he would admit it was a biological anomaly, it was no more special than that.
Rookfrost turned to address the gathered cats, and a flick of the ear signaled Kindleflare to step forward. He had not prepared her beforehand; it was not a lapse in judgment, but a personal decision. If he had to deal with an anxious, excited apprentice on the way to the Moon Tree, his temperament would hardly improve. ”The time has come for Kindleflare to become a full medicine cat.” A few murmurs of approval met the black tom’s tall, tufted ears, and one flicked as though to cast aside the unnecessary noise.
"I, Rookfrost, medicine cat of LightningClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. She has trained hard to understand the ways of a medicine cat, and with your help she will serve her Clan for many moons. Kindleflare, do you promise to uphold the ways of a medicine cat, to stand apart from rivalry between Clan and Clan and to protect all cats equally, even at the cost of your life?"
For all his disdain for petty Clan rituals, these were the only words Rookfrost had ever chosen to memorize; not for the embarrassment that would come when needing another medicine cat to recite the ceremony for one of his apprentices. It was the only ceremony that a medicine cat performed themselves.
He looked imploringly to the ginger she-cat. Her training was complete, at least as far as the requirements of apprenticeship were concerned. If she had any intelligence at all, she would continue to gather new healing techniques and herb knowledge as the moons drifted past.
”I-I…” Kindleflare stammered, and he felt a needle-sharp flare of irritation, before she seemed to correct herself. Standing up straighter. Speaking in a stronger mew. ”I do.”
You’d better.
”Then by the powers of StarClan I give you your true name as a medicine cat. From this moment you will no longer be known as a warrior. StarClan honors your compassion, humility, and we welcome you as a full medicine cat of LightningClan." Rookfrost took two strides forward and rested his muzzle on top of the she-cat’s head, barely felt her tongue rasp timidly over his shoulder before they broke apart, and her new name was chanted by all cats present.

She'd been silent on the trek to the Moon Tree, dutifully keeping up with her mentor but staying one or two pawsteps behind him. This always seemed to be the best spot for her; this way, she was not in his way, but was also never all that far away in case he needed her to carry something or whatever. Expert in the field of 'get out of my way', Kindleflare had learnt all the steps required to perform the dance encompassed in being Rookfrost's apprentice. Ginger ears were tipped back slightly, intent on the two sets of pawsteps following them.
The night she'd treated Cherrypool and her brother Whiteshade for injuries related to fighting an owl seemed glued to the front of her mind, as though they'd been thoroughly doused in tree sap before being slapped onto her consciousness. She still couldn't make sense of it all; why in StarClan's name had an owl engaged in a fight with them? Sure, it wasn't unheard of for an owl to take a kit... But to attack two fully grown warriors? It was uncharacteristic of the night hunters. What.. What if they attacked it? She thought suddenly, her amber eyes widening fractionally.
D-Don't be silly... What reason would they h-have for that? It's n-not like LightningClan was starving... She told herself firmly, flicking her tail to dismiss the thoughts. Turning her attention on the all-to familiar surroundings, Kindleflare seemed to perk up slightly as the mountains pulled into view. The LightningClan she-cat loved these trips to the Moon Tree; she was fascinated by StarClan, and when she was able to speak to her ancestors, Kindleflare couldn't help but feel a kit-like excitement shiver through her. Wondering what this meeting had in store, Kindleflare approached the gathered medicine cats just behind Rookfrost, smiling shyly at those who signalled her.
All thoughts of the other medicine cats were thrown to the wind as Rookfrost mentioned a ceremony. Curiosity pricking in her mind, the ginger medicine cat apprentice quickly began filtering through potential reasons he might be conducting a ceremony here, of all placed. It hit her like a falling branch just as her black-coated mentor motioned for her to step forward. Obeying him stiffly, Kindleflare's wide-eyed gaze stared blankly ahead as the LightningClan medicine cat recited the words of so many medicine cats before him. It was a struggle for the she-cat not to hyperventilate.
And then all eyes turned to her, her body stiffening instantaneously as she scrambled for her words. "I-I…" Wincing at her pathetic attempt, Kindleflare gave her muzzle a quick shake before standing straighter, and raising her amber gaze to his as confidently as she could, considering the force with which her heart hammered against her ribs. "I do." When Rookfrost closed the distance between them to rest his chin on top of her head, Kindleflare dutifully rasped her tongue over his shoulder. Even as he stepped away and the voices of the other medicine cats rose in a chant of her name, his voice rang in her ears.
"We welcome you as a full medicine cat of LightningClan." ...I... I did it..! |

So let go, let go, jump in. Oh well, what you waiting for?
Dawnblossom watched the other medicine cats arrive one by one, or in RainClan and LightningClan's cases, two by two. She greeted Bluejay warmly when the TreeClan she-cat arrived second, blinking in surprise that she had yet again come alone, without her mentor Littletimber, whom Dawnblossom had yet to properly meet. “It's lovely to see you as well, Bluejay. I hope TreeClan is well.” And she did, truthfully. She liked Bluejay, and StoneClan had been on nothing but good terms with TreeClan for her entire life. They seemed a respectable and honorable Clan. Her ears twitched at the thought of LightningClan's recent tactics against them and wondered if TreeClan would ever do such a thing. Somehow she didn't think so, at least not under their current leader's rule.
RainClan's medicine cats arrived next and she peered curiously at Ottersplash, who seemed jumpier than she remembered. She gave them both only cursory nods of greeting, glad that Bluejay had arrived first and she was not stuck with the RainClan cats by herself again. Smokefur arrived, taking a seat beside her, and she dipped her head, “I hope you had an easy journey, Smokefur.” NightClan was the furthest from the Moon Tree and took easily half again the time to travel that it did for a StoneClan cat. She had found Smokefur to be fairly easy to get along with as well, and with NightClan across the valley from StoneClan, their Clans had little reason to be in conflict with each other. It was easy to get along with her, despite what all the rumors floating around about NightClan might lead one to believe about the cats that made up their ranks.
At last LightningClan arrived, a shiver rippling over her pelt as her gaze came to rest on Rookfrost. The dark tom wasted no time on pleasantries, whisking past them all with the simple announcement that he had a ceremony to perform. Dawnblossom's ears flicked briefly back against her head in annoyance before perking forward again with interest. After watching his apprentice follow him inside, she hesitated only a moment before following. She settled before the Moon Tree, bathed in its icy light, as Rookfrost began the ceremony to name his apprentice a full medicine cat. Her ears twitched again, thinking about her recent conversation with Hawkstar about taking her own apprentice. She hoped StarClan would send her a sign soon. Perhaps they would give her a message about it this very night. Her fur tingled with anticipation at the thought, and she longed to curl up among the roots and dream, but the other medicine cats may still have other business to attend to first.
She called Kindleflare's name with the others as Rookfrost drew the ceremony to a close. She didn't envy the ginger she-cat the unfortunate choice in mentor StarClan had given her, and thought that her ability to make it through training with him was more than enough to cheer about. As the echoes of 'Kindleflare' died away in the cavern, Dawnblossom looked around, wondering if any cat had anything else to say. She cleared her throat, thinking she may as well make a small announcement of her own while she waited, “I know I have not been medicine cat on my own for long, but I thought it prudent to begin seeking my own apprentice out before leaf-bare is upon us, after last leaf-bare's tragedy nearly left StoneClan without a medicine cat at all.” She dipped her head, indicating that her short announcement was coming to an end for whoever would like to speak next, “I hope I will be able to introduce them at our next meeting.”
It's all right, 'cause there's beauty in the breakdown. Insidious Hellion Amber @poptart Fawn BlooRey DVD I know I saw in the cbox that I was supposed to start the dreaming now but I figured Insi might want Bluejay to announce Littletimber's death before the dreaming begins. So perhaps Swanfeather could start the dreaming, since I don't think any of the other medicine cats have anything major to say?

Offering a small smile in response to Dawnblossom in the place of words, Bluejay settled into a comfortable silence as she awaited the arrival of the other medicine cats. Slowly but surely, the rest of the medicine cats began to file in, starting with RainClan and ending with LightningClan. She tipped her head in greeting to each respective cat in turn, even Rookfrost, who seemed to icily shoulder his way inside after he made sure everyone was accounted for and present. Bluejay didn’t miss the signs of discomfort that flitted through Dawnblossom’s body language, and she gently knocked her shoulder against the StoneClan medicine cat’s before entering in an attempt to ease any frustrations she was feeling.
No time was wasted in beginning Kindleflare’s ceremony, and Bluejay sat back to give the ginger she-cat her moment; she was pleased to be a part of it, and she sincerely hoped she enjoyed everything that came with being a full-fledged medicine cat. Unfortunately, Bluejay hadn’t spoken with Kindleflare a lot, but she seemed like a kind-hearted individual, and in the future the bluish-gray she-cat hoped to change that. When the ceremony ceased, Bluejay knelt forward to offer Kindleflare a personal congratulations, and then she was quick to return to her place in time for Dawnblossom’s announcement. “That’s a wonderful idea, Dawnblossom. I look forward to meeting StoneClan’s medicine cat apprentice the next time we assemble.” The floor opened once again, and Bluejay cleared her throat. This was as good a time as any. She couldn’t avoid the subject of Littletimber’s death forever. “It brings me great pain to announce Littletimber’s passing to all of you. Demon made an attack on our territory, and my mentor, Clanmate, and friend—” She wasn’t sure he would’ve liked to be called that by Bluejay, let alone by anyone, but she held him in incredibly high regard nonetheless and intended to make that clear to her peers. “—didn’t survive. I’m now TreeClan’s sole medicine cat.” She took a deep breath and prepared herself for the onslaught of sympathies. She would appreciate the support of her fellow medicine cats, but his death had clearly taken a toll on her, and she didn’t want to discuss it more than she needed to.

She agreed with Ottersplash after all it was important to maintain some sense of unity when it came to RainClan current situation. The black pointed she-cat knew that if dedication and staying true to their beliefs then sure enough Timberwing would step down and someone worthy step up. RainClan couldn't be lead by a NightClan fox. Their arrival had the she-cat noticing Dawnblossom and Bluejay having already gotten there first. Her icy cold eyes settled in each cat for a moment, offering a nod of greeting before sitting down to wait for the others. She made the choice to sit a little on her own, allowing Ottersplash to do the same or find his own place.. Smokefur was joined them shortly and the urge to glare toward the she-cat was held back by a rapid whip of her tail. Anything NightClan left a sour taste in her mouth she'd need to nibble on peppermint to rid her of the taste. Rookfrost timely entrance had her full attention. He mentioned the ceremony he needed to preform. Kindleflare was an odd she-cat and reminded her a lot of Ottersplash. Not that it it was a good or bad thing. Once the ceremony was finished her own pretty voice joined in to the chanting of Kindleflare's name. Preparing to follow after Dawnblossom to begin their dreaming, Dawnblossom mentioned wanting to take on an apprentice. She had no words of encouragement for the she-cat. In truth she saw StoneClan as just another rival, the health and safety of their clan was non of her concern. And with that notion she offered Dawnblossom no word of advise or even encouraging non-verbal gesture. Believe the decent into the the cavern woulds start, Swanfeather rose to her paws only to hear Bluejay voice. She-cat spoke of Littletimber's death and realized that it was a troubling event. Demon rarely bothered any of the Clans outside of TreeClan, but the knowledge that the attack recently happened sparked concerned for her. The desire to return to RainClan camp rose. "My condolences for your Clan's loss," She told Bluejay. For a second Swanfeather glanced around to see if any other cats wanted to announce something. Taking their silence as permission to proceed Swanfeather flicked her tail and began to head down to the tree. In all her moons as a medicine cat, Swanfeather has always been amazed at the beauty of moon tree. The calm serenity that washed over her like a pleasent rain was enough to help her forget her pains. Treading carefully over the roots to find herself a place to call her nest, Swanfeather glanced one last time toward Ottersplash before curling up to rest. Despite the troubles in RainClan, Swanfeather found it easy to drift to sleep. She woke in the realm of StarClan, her paws touching soft earth by the side of the river. The mistylook of the area around her sparked no fear as she waited for Frostfang's arrival. He was her guide, her connection to StarClan and in some ways the connection to her heart. However, he didn't arrive right away instead the mist gave way and the urge to walk moved her to her feet. Her pawsteps carried her within her dream away from the River and into a forest, one she didn't recognize. Despite knowing her body was safe, Swanfeather felt the prickle of fear along the nape of her neck as it travelled through her body. She didn't like where she was going and wanted nothing more than to return to the river where she woke. "Frostfang!" She called out, her voice sound soft in the density of the forest. From the corner of her eye she saw a flash of white fur and quickly turned her head but found nothing. It was very unlike him to wait to so long to appear but finally from under a fallen log she saw his fur emerge. But to her horror he looked terrible. In past dreams Frostfang appeared to her as healthy and happy as he was alive, but now he looked mangled and broken like he did the night he died. The wounds to his body raw and fresh, the raspy sound of his breathing made her blood run cold. "Frostfang..." She asked her voice softer than before as she lowered herself out of fear at the sight of him. "How could you do this?!" He snarled, his voice strong despite the terrible noise he made when not talking. "You used my death and your hatred for NightClan to tear apart RainClan!" He went on, tail lashing in anger. "You caused so much pain and heartache in recent moons. You are lucky that I am able to see you!" He growled, Swanfather's reaction was a continued look of horror. "I-I-I've tried to keep RainClan pure..keep that vile NightClan cat from leading our clan," Swanfeather barely managed to reply but Frostang didn't back down, anger still present in his cold eyes. Her reaction was born out of shock from seeing him in such a way. Old memories rising to the surface. "Don't mistake me for a kit Swanfeather. Your hatred is because of what happened to me not because you want to keep RainClan pure. NightClan is your rival not your Clanmates aren't enemies and Timberwing is your Clanmate," He shot back, tail lashing as Swanfeather shut her eyes to avoid looking at him. "You have used your status as medicine cat to do terrible things. The blood that has flowed into the river is from your hate. You are responsible for the RainClan's troubles. And if you do not change your ways, the place of no stars is where you will end up. And I am forbidden from visiting you there," Frostfang told her, his voice stern and unforgiving. Swanfeather shook for a moment. Keeping her eyes shut to try and force away all the returning memories. The sounds of the fighting, the reek of it all. "I still love you Swanfeather, but if you can't change there is nothing I can do," He added. For a moment it seemed that Frostfang and gotten through to her. Used the vision of him mangled and broken to change her ways, but as Swanfeather calmed her heart and rose to look at him he realized he was mistaken. "I am doing what is best for RainClan. Not for any other Clan. My duty is to RainClan first. I do not have to follow a leader who was born among foxes. I did not care with StoneClan was chased out. I used my role as medicine cat of RainClan to ensure RainClan had full bellies. It has happened before. SkyClan of Old? I am not the only medicine cat with blood on their paws." She replied, her voice nearly void of emotion. It took the apparition of Frostfang by surprise. "By attempting to make me see you in such a way only makes my cause more just. A NightClan cat tore you apart! You died because you crossed a border. Why can't other cats pay that price!? Cats cross the borders to follow their mates all the time. But the cost of one bird is your life? While we lose more then that when a cross-clan kits decides to leave. Why not prevent that from happening by not letting outsiders in or allowing cross-clan relationship. " Her tail lashed back and forth as she finished, Frostfang's eyes fell to the ground a long sigh existing his maw. "Goodbye Swanfeather," He told her before rising up and returning to the fallen log where he emerged. The she-cat with her blue eyes and dark face let out a cry for him to return but he didn't. Realizing he was gone and she'd wake up soon, Swanfeather waited there along the edge of the dark forest. The memory of his body once again burned into her, the terrible event replaying over and over. Fawn Amber @zen Insidious BlooRey DVD @popart words: 1326

NightClan arrived next, then LightningClan. As always, the night-black healer of the moors unnerved him, the way his haunting grey eyes passed over them with no hint of emotion or even life. He shivered slightly, waiting his turn to follow the others into the cavern. Darkness surrounded him as he dove into the rock, pawsteps near-silent on the path. It wasn't long before the glittering light of the Moon Tree lit the way, and he jumped down into the cavern with the rest. Rookfrost wasted no time in performing the ceremony to induct his apprentice as a fully-flegded medicine cat, and Ottersplash shakily chanted her name. His eyes turned to StoneClan's medicine cat as she spoke up, speaking of possibly taking on an apprentice soon. Then TreeClan's healer spoke up. Hearing that Bluejay's mentor was dead was a shock to him. To hear that he was attacked by the demon lynx that stalked the mountains was even more so. His eyes were wide as he stared at Bluejay, struggling to take it in. 'So much death.'Realizing he was staring, he swallowed hard and averted his eyes. "I-I'm sorry, B-Bluejay." Without realizing it, he glanced up at Swanfeather. How would he feel it he lost her? In a way, he already had. But she was only a short walk away if he needed her. He couldn't help but wonder, though, how long would it last? Especially now that blood had been spilled in this civil war. Realizing he was staring again when Swanfeather's gaze met his as she scanned around, he shook his head and looked away. Swanfeather rose and moved toward the Moon Tree, and he followed. Picking his way between the roots, he settled himself into a niche lined with a thin layer of moss, turning around twice before lying down to rest. He drifted uneasily a while, before he opened his eyes, frustrated that he couldn't sleep. However, he no longer found himself in the mountains, but somewhere on the bank of an unfamiliar river. He rose swiftly to his paws, golden-brown eyes searching around him.
As he stood there, a cold wind began to blow, soon turning into a gale that whipped at his fur and stung his eyes. Narrowing his eyes into slits, he searched for anything or anyone, seeing only the water in the river rushing past, choppy waves stirred up by the wind. He stepped closer to the river, feeling the reeds and rushes lashing against him.
Unlike his last dream, there was nothing in the water, and he backed away, turning. As the first few drops of rain began to fall on his head, he looked up. Overhead, a hawk was circling, and suddenly he felt very small. He instinctively crouched lower to the ground, feeling the few drops turn into a downpour. Within moments, he was soaked to the bone, and in a mix of anger and desperation, he cried out.
"What are you trying to show me?!!" A crack of thunder had him cowering, pressing his belly low to the ground. Something snapped, and he tilted his head up and backward to see a huge tree bearing down on him. In a split second, his thought of 'Where did that come from?' was replaced by the realization that the tree was falling onto him. With a squeal, he scrambled to get out of the way, barely managing to lunged to the side before the tree slammed into the ground where he'd just been lying.
As he turned around, panting and terrified, he saw a pair of glowing eyes staring at him from atop the fallen tree. Once again, those chilling words reached his ears.

Smokefur was always pleased, if not a bit surprised, at the kindness the newest generation of medicine cats was capable of showing. This wasn't always the case after all and Smokefur could distinctly remember a time when she wasn't fond of any of her peers. Some of the cats that were the source of such ire still plagued her, but from the looks of it they wouldn't be a problem much longer. Dawnblossoms' small talk was kind and the older she-cat couldn't help but joke, "The journey is easy as it's ever been." Smokefur quipped with a sly grin. It wasn't long before the most unscrupulous of their group showed his aging black maw and Smokefur found her little pow-wow had come to an end. She listened politely as Rookfrost spoke and cheered for Kindleflare as was appropriate. The hesitance of the the newest medicine cat didn't surprise Smokefur one bit, Kindleflares' mentor was easily one of the scariest cats in all the clans and she would probably be a bit nervous if Rookfrost had been her mentor. As the metaphorical talking stick went to the other medicine cats Smokefur played her part, she wasn't all surprised at any of their announcements. Dawnblossom taking an apprentice made sense and most must have suspected that Littletimber wouldn't be returning. With those matters tended to, Smokefur had nothing to bring up herself, it was now time to take their trip to Starclan. It didn't take Smokefur long to drift off and she soon awoke in a far more majestic place, however with this came the disapproving gaze of her former mentor. "What did I do?" Smokefur huffed like a scolded apprentice, to which Dapplecloud replied "You know what you haven't done, Smokefur..." With that Smokefur jerked awake, and heaved a long sigh. ROOKFROST As the medicine cats laid before the Moon Tree, their noses resting near the glimmering alabaster roots, Rookfrost suppressed his disdain for this pointless ritual. He never dreamed. Not of StarClan. No starry-furred ancestors descended from on high, deigning to share their knowledge with him.
He did not wait to be taught; whatever Rookfrost desired to know, he found out for himself. Prophecies and the like were of no concern of his. With icy resignation, Rookfrost laid down at the roots of the tree, feigning seriousness towards this hallowed arbor while he closed his eyes and let his body go still.
It was a simple matter of quieting his own thoughts--a practice he was in the habit of each and every night--to allow himself to slip into the steady, rhythmic breathing of a cat deep in sleep. He was master of no one but himself, and short of control over his life and his death, he regulated his own behaviors down to the letter. The way he groomed his pelt was for efficiency; the way he walked was out of many moons of developing an almost mechanical fluidity, a surefootedness that was difficult to mimic. It was crucial, as a young tom with a mind that worked so much better than his fellows, to gain mastery over his thoughts; or else they would have kept him up at night.
While he needed less sleep than his Clanmates, Rookfrost still preferred to adhere to his natural circadian rhythms; that meant shutting off the almost maddening whirling of his thoughts when something proved... intriguing or too much of a challenge to simply let it go for the night.
A quarter of an hour passed, and the tom, his small nap ended, rose stiffly back to all fours. His joints were nearly inflexible after lying so close to an unnatural source of frost. Protesting the tree's presence even more so than usual, Rookfrost stretched pointedly, keeping a watchful eye out for the other medicine cats who would be waking soon. When he was limbered up for the long walk home, Rookfrost moved past the other sleeping bodies--Smokefur had just awoken--to loom over Kindleflare's still, steadily breathing form.
When he was certain he was not being watched, Rookfrost extended one paw forward to prod the ginger she-cat into consciousness. This was repeated once, twice and a third time for good measure, before he drew away to sit impatiently. It was time for farewells and goodnights. The sooner, the better. His night had already been wasted by this pointless bit of superstition. As the exhilaration of her ceremony wore off, the ginger and white she-cat felt a more somber mood setting in. She nodded encouragingly as Dawnblossom mentioned taking an apprentice. If she were alone, she likely would take one as well. Seeing as she was now Rookfrost's... Equal was not the right word for it, but something along those lines, well... LightningClan had two medicine cats for the time being. An apprentice wasn't needed. When TreeClan's medicine cat stepped forward, Kindleflare's ears steadily lay back against her skull. What s-sad news... She thought to herself, flinching back at the thought of losing her mentor so suddenly.
Even if she and Rookfrost didn't have the most... Traditional relationship (he wasn't exactly your average cat), Kindleflare didn't want him to just die like that. Glancing toward the black wraith of LightningClan, she couldn't help but see the signs. Turning her gaze onto her paws, LightningClan's newest medicine cat awaited the signal to step forward and begin dreaming. When it came, silent paws steps carried her closer to the tree, her breath twisting from her muzzle in thick plumes of steam. With a quiet shiver, she pressed the tip of her nose to the tree and let sleep drift over her.
Amber eyes blinked open to a moorland not unlike her home, curiously skirting the area wondering what she would see this time. A larger, ginger tom stepped forward, a ghost of a smile on his lips. "F-Flameshadow!" She purred, bounding forward to meet her eldest brother. He touched his nose to the top of her head, allowing her to nuzzle against his fur. It was strangely cool, certainly not how she remembered it in life but... It she knew it was definitely him the moment his scent flooded her. With a content smile, she stepped back to look back up at Flameshadow.
"Kindleflare." He greeted her. "You look well, sister. Officially a medicine cat now, hm?" He meowed, and she nodded excitedly. "It suits you well." Her only response was the slight puffing of her chest. He mrrowed in subdued laughter, licking her ear. "It is good to see you, Kindleflare. However... I think someone is impatient for you to wake up." He commented. Kindleflare's ears pricked forward, her mind aware of something prodding at her from the waking world. Her ears flattened against her skull and she shook her head. "N-No, I don't want to leave you.." She mewed quietly, looking at him with pleading eyes.
A tail lay across her shoulders, and he gave her an encouraging smile. "I am never far, Kindleflare. Look for me here." His tail tip tapped over her heart, causing her to glance down. "Be strong, Kindleflare. I know you have it in you." Rising quickly to her paws, she buried her face into his chest one more time. "B-Bye Flameshadow... I love you." She whispered.
Amber eyes shot open to the eerie glow of the moon tree. With another shiver, she glanced up to see Rookfrost's impatient gaze. Scrabbling to her paws, she scampered to his side, straightening her chest fur slightly all the while clinging desperately to the memory of her visit. |

So let go, let go, jump in. Oh well, what you waiting for?
Dawnblossom turned her gaze to Bluejay as the younger she-cat spoke and made her sobering announcement about her mentor. Without thinking about it, she touched the blue-gray she-cat lightly with her tail in sympathy. “I'm sorry, Bluejay. I wish I had gotten a chance to meet him properly,” she murmured. A couple of the other medicine cats offered their own sympathies, and when it seemed no one else had any other announcements to make, Swanfeather was the first to move toward the Moon Tree.
It had seemed rather abrupt to Dawnblossom, but she shook it off and soon followed the others as each cat settled amongst the icy roots. She curled up with her chin on her fluffy tail and felt the easy sleep of StarClan fall over her even as she opened her eyes once more to look around. She sat upon a boulder in a territory that seemed similar and yet somehow different from StoneClan's. As she looked around, a familiar silver shape padded calmly toward her and with easy grace, leaped up beside her.
Dawnblossom purred, “Silverstorm, you came.”
He looked over at her and purred as well, “Of course I did. I do not want to hold Duskflower back from finding happiness again.”
“Then I can tell Eagletalon it's all right with you? Him and Duskflower?” she prompted him, eager for her sister.
Silverstorm laughed, “Of course. There should never have been any question.” His gaze sobered slightly, “I miss them all, Duskflower and our kits, but I will walk with them always, whether they know it or not. Will you tell them for me? Tell them to live, to chase all their dreams wholeheartedly no matter how impossible they seem, and tell them that I am there, cheering for them every pawstep of the way.” He leaned closer, “And tell Duskflower and Eagletalon that I will watch over their kits just as closely.”
His words had grown quieter, and she noticed his form fading as he added his final words in. Dawnblossom stood, “I'll tell them, Silverstorm... thank you. This will mean so much for them. They miss you as well! You were... you ARE a wonderful tom!” Her voice steadily rose as he faded away, as if his hearing was also fading. She heard a soft, amused purr, almost as though it were right in her ear, but Silverstorm was gone.
She raised her head, back among the roots of the Moon Tree, and noticed a number of the other medicine cats stirring, or already awake. She pushed to her paws, stretching her cold limbs, and looked up at the branches of the tree. She purred softly to herself at the message she had received.
It's all right, 'cause there's beauty in the breakdown.
