After running a tad late for the last medicine cat meeting, Dawnblossom was determined to be one of the first to arrive this time to show that it would not become a habit. She had asked Duskflower to be part of her escort and had been about to ask Darkfrost again when she remembered just how much time her youngest sister seemed to be spending with a certain senior warrior. It wasn't normally her style to try to set two cats up with time for each other, but Duskflower was her sister, and a cat she knew for a fact would appreciate a little help. After all, Duskflower enjoyed trying to do things like that for other cats.
So she had approached Eagletalon, asking if he wouldn't mind being part of her escort to the meeting. From what she knew of the tom, he was a pretty easygoing cat and wasn't surprised that he readily agreed, even before she had told him which cat was taking up a second role in the escort. As the sun set over the valley, Dawnblossom dropped a small bundle of strengthening herbs before Duskflower and Eagletalon. StoneClan was fortunate enough to be the closest Clan to the Moon Tree so they had the least distance to travel, but it still wasn't exactly an easy journey into the mountains.
After she had been sure the two of them had swallowed the concoction, she led the way out of camp, passing Duskflower with a wink, to which her sister had giggled softly. She kept ahead of the two, giving them enough space for some quiet, private chatter between them, but close enough that should their services as escort actually be required, they would be able to assist her readily enough. She occasionally heard her sister's soft giggle, her whiskers twitching with affection and amusement, but she tried not to pay their conversation any attention.
She wasn't nosy about such things like Duskflower was. She was just happy her sister seemed to have found a new companion after Silverstorm's death. Her sister's relationship with the tom had been rather unique, a mateship born of friendship and mutual desire for a family, and not of the usual romantic love that spurred the vast majority of cats into starting families. They had been friends, first and foremost, neither of them ever reaching that point of deep love she and Brackentail had had for each other. Duskflower missed Silverstorm, to be sure, but his loss had not ripped open a gaping hole in her heart that could never be filled by another cat.
Dawnblossom's ears twitched at the thought that had solidified her desire to return to being a medicine cat. She was confident she would never, and did not WANT to, find another cat to replace Brackentail in her life. He was the only thing that could have ever torn her away from her life as a medicine cat, and without him, she knew her true calling. She often wondered if StarClan had taken him from her specifically to send her back to the correct path, the path StoneClan needed her on. She could not blame them, if they had. The Clan was far more important than her own selfish desires. But it brought on another wave of guilt over his death. If she had just followed her path from the beginning, would Brackentail still be alive?
She shook her head as the cave entrance that lead to the Moon Tree came into view. It wasn't prudent to think like that. She parted her jaws, tasting the air for other scents, but there was nothing fresh on the air. Ears angling forward in surprise, she paused, looking back at her companions, “It seems we're the first to arrive. You two can make yourselves comfortable. We should be safe here.” Even outside the Moon Tree's cavern, Dawnblossom felt StarClan presence more strongly, feeling as though they would allow no harm to come to any cat that rested here. Whether that was true or not, she could not say, but she enjoyed the peaceful feeling the thought brought with it. She padded farther from the two of them, closer to the cavern entrance, and sat with her tail curled around her paws to await the arrival of her peers.
It's all right, 'cause there's beauty in the breakdown.
