Name: Valeriankit, Valerianpaw, Valerianleaf
Age: 12 moons
Gender: Tom
Clan: StoneClan
Rank: Apprentice
Picture: A Very Tchz Afternoon by JDAC, on Flickr
Description: Sturdier and stockier than his sisters, Valerianpaw inherited his father’s build. With legs slightly shorter and a thicker chest, his center of gravity is lower to the ground, making him slower but slightly stronger than his sisters and more aware of where he keeps his body, particularly his tail, which since it is thicker and slightly shorter tends to drag more often on the ground. His face is wider than his sisters’, rounder, almost as if he has chubby cheeks. Most of his short dense fur is white, except for a solid stony gray mantle over his back, and a gray face, covering the right side of his muzzle but leaving the left side and chin white. His paw pads are all pink, but due to the gray touching his nose it is a darker gray/black color. His eyes a vibrant shifting shade of yellow-green.
Description Summary: Average gray and white tom with yellow-green eyes.
Personality:
INTP
Confidence. It infuses every bit of his appearance, from his gait to his smile, to his words. While his sisters are equally sweet and enthusiastic, they both still hold onto their brother, their leader. But not Valerianpaw, while there is still some small part of him who mourns his brother and wishes him here, he also knows that his brother would not want him to live with him as a shadow on his life. So Valerianpaw became his own person. He learned to not hold back his opinions and ideas and is very active in conversations even with cats who are much older than him. Authority, while it deserves respect, does not mean he will treat any cat with awe. He judges cats based on their logic, their intellect, how they solve problems.
Confession. Valerianpaw thinks the clan system is silly and inefficient. Okay well not the entire thing, but parts of it. He sees the code as a set of rules which are rarely actually followed, and Starclan, though real, as just cats who are flawed but are now in the stars. He does not understand why they are so amazing, they are just… cats. Just like everyone else in the clan. Yet while he sometimes mentions his displeasure with inefficiencies in can maintenance, he is also very charismatic in trying to help improve things. He is somewhat nitpicky, so whatever he does he has to be really good at. He has worked incredibly hard at both his hunting and fighting skills. With fighting he is alright, as he can zero in on the cat who is his opponent, and is actually pretty good at doing impromptu and unexpected moves which unsettle his opponent. He claims it is because he can see patterns in the way that cats fight, but some other apprentices scoff at the possibility. Unfortunately hunting is not as easy. With so many variables, he struggles to place everything the way which he needs to. Yet, he is not one to easily give up. Recognizing patterns in his own way of doing things, he spent literal entire days (unless somecat actually made him stop to eat or drink or do other duties) working on his hunting technique, to the point where he is finally passable. See the problem is, Valerianpaw is obsessive. His mind will fixate on specific things until he perfects them, and then after that he has a tendency to just drop them.
Yet despite how physically focused he is, Valerianpaw is also incredibly thoughtful. He is often heard to be discussing philosophy and clan religion and politics with the elders and older clanmates. He loves puzzles and is always acting to solve things creatively.
He’s not so great with social cues…. And often can be very annoying in his conversations. He has a tendency to interrupt, override, and correct other cats, and doesn’t necessarily understand how to keep things in confidence. As a result he can be abrasive, despite how charismatic he is. Its an odd duality.
History:
Lotusrain and Thistletail have always lived quiet lives. Well almost. They have been together in a way since they were apprentices, and the drama a relationship of any sort could possibly have, they had then. They both had crushes on the other without realizing it, then they finally expressed their feelings, then they started spending time together, then they felt cheated by the other, and made up, and then they started to bicker... let's just say that the apprentices around the same time got really tired of them. Eventually when they became warriors that pretty much ended abruptly, and it was smooth sailing. They became mates and stayed mates, and since then their relationship has been strong.
While there was sadness in their lives, as it appeared for several moons that they might not be able to have kits at all, they were blessed with a beautiful litter of four kits.
Valeriankit was third born, after Kitekit and Cricketkit, and before Honeykit. Although the delivery was a bit touch and go, all kits survived and were very healthy, and Lotusrain recovered.
The four siblings instantly became very tight knit. While they did play with other kits in the nursery, they were there own playful unit, with Kitekit in charge. Together they would get into mischief, but always agreed to never leave camp unless given permission too. Valeriankit understood the rules, but was frustrated that the warriors all ignored their desire to see outside camp even a little bit. Couldnt they just be escorted out? The warriors would protect them, wouldn’t they? In any case all four siblings also had strong relationships with their parents, and the family was something of an oddity in the clan, but they took pride in it.
The first test to the families cohesion came when Kitekit and Honeykit became desperately sick. A few other cats were also sick at the time, which made the medicine cats spread very thin. Lotusrain volunteered her time to help care for her kits and the other cats, hoping and praying to Starclan that they would survive. Valeriankit spent those days with his father and Cricketpaw, wondering what would happen to his sister and brother. For many days it was a close call, Honeykit survived, but Kitekit passed to Starclan.
It was devastating. The four siblings had lost their leader, their headway, their oldest brother. The parents had lost their eldest son. Yet unlike some cats when grieving, none of them turned away, in fact they all clung desperately to one another. Really the parents became overprotective, but both Valeriankit and Cricket kit were okay with that. Even with her recovery, Honeykit would not be made an apprentice until a full moon later than usual, and out of support for her, her two siblings asked to wait to be made apprentices at the same time.
When they did become apprentices though, they worked hard to try and make up for their lost moon. Honeykit was still weak, and could not go on for as long, but her siblings kept close. Valerianpaw was particularly protective of his little sister, almost feeling as if it was duty to take Kitekit’s place and protect his sisters. He’s not particularly good at it though, because he is distracted by other things, like becoming the best he can. While his sisters have had somewhat difficult apprenticeships, Valerianpaw has gone past his mentor’s difficulties (not everycat can be attentive), and hopes to be made a warrior soon. Hopes, but who can be sure.
RP Example: TBA
Other: While I am trying out for meddie apprentice with him in Stone, part of the try-out includes rping outside of just try-out, so I will add a roleplay example later.
