18 Moons. She-Cat. NightClan. No I won't apologize for the fire in my eyes
It took a special kind of family to call 'pummeling each other all morning' a fun activity. What could she say, though? They were Blackwolf's kin, and as his kin, prowess in battle was mandatory, not optional. After Coyotepaw's near-death encounter with the fox (Bonetail had been witness to), Blackwolf called together his two able-bodied kits, and trained them himself in the pineneedle clearing.
Hollystorm did not collapse into a heap on a nest of dry needles, so much as she slowly sat down, flanks heaving as she struggled to catch her breath. Just ahead, Bonetail and Blackwolf were battling like ferocious warriors, her brother (for once in his life) actually showing himself to be decent at it. Blackwolf had moons of experience and a certain brutality to his battle style that left Bonetail in the dust, but her brother gave up a good fight.
He was a warrior now too, just like her.
Twisting, Hollystorm lapped at the scratch her father had given her during their confrontation; it had been a nasty bite, but she'd deserved it. Trying to trick him with a move he could've seen right through... Normally, Hollystorm wasn't so bad at this. Though she enjoyed the thrill of hunting, it was in combat that her heart truly sang for joy. She recalled her battle-training sessions with Starlingcry as the fondest moments of her apprenticeship.
But she was... distracted, these days. Though moons had passed, Hollystorm could not shake the feeling that she was the cause of Coyotepaw's injury. If she hadn't insisted he tag along just to get on Bonetail's nerves, then he would've been fine. When the siblings looked at each other now, the white tom with the mismatched eyes and the black she-cat with the spot on her ear, there was guilt.
He felt responsible for Coyotepaw's injury just as much as she did.
Which is why they always showed up to these training sessions without complaint. Because, under Blackwolf's critical eye and tough-love approach to parenting, they both felt like they were getting the punishment they deserved. With the added bonus of sharpening their skills along the way.
While Blackwolf and Bonetail continued to spar, a flash of ginger fur caught Hollystorm's attention. Her heart leaping up, she slipped away from the pine needle clearing with hardly a backward glance, pursuing the ginger tabby pelt. Sunpulse!
Hollystorm purred, hoping he had come to find her. "I see you in there, Sunshine. Come on out!"

The muscular, ginger tabby padded along quickly, head held high as she passed through the Pineneedle Clearing, briefly pausing to watch the sparring match between Blackwolf and Bonetail. The sight before her brought a sad smile to her muzzle. For a few days now, she passed through the clearing on her way to go hunt and each time she spied Blackwolf training with Hollystorm and Bonetail as though they were preparing for a war. It was clear why though, after almost losing their sibling to a filthy fox they likely wanted to hone their skills, to be ready in case something like that ever happened again. She couldn't blame them though, if something like that had happened to her own sister or even to her father Antfang, she too would be training her tail off. She would have also personally saw to it that the fox was dead by her own claws, as well as any other foxes that had so much as breathed in or around Nightclan territory at any point in time. Though some might say that's taking it a bit too far, and they might even be right about that, but she would gladly do it to ensure the safety of her family. Sharing one last passing glance, Redcloud felt sympathy begin to bubble up in her heart, but as much as she wanted to approach and try to comfort them, there was a time and a place for that. It was best not to disturb their training and besides, she had hunting to do. She made a mental note to visit them later though, hoping that perhaps she could console them in some way. How the ginger she-cat would go about doing such a thing was yet to be known to even her, but she could still try. Redcloud started moving again, attempting to slip past the family as quickly and as quietly as possible so as to not disturb them. It would seem though, that she hadn't done the best of jobs with that however, as soon after she passed by, she could hear the padding of pawsteps behind her and the sound of Hollystorm calling out. At first, Redcloud had been a bit confused, Hollystorm had not called out her name but rather Sunpulse's, had Sunpulse also been with them and she simply hadn't noticed? It was then, after a brief look around showed the ginger tom to be nowhere in sight, that she realized that Hollystorm had confused her for Sunpulse. With a purr of amusement, the tabby she-cat turned around and padded back towards Hollystorm, dipping her head in greeting. "Sorry, no Sunpuse here, it's just me." She mewled out playfully. Fawn

18 Moons. She-Cat. NightClan. No I won't apologize for the fire in my eyes
Hollystorm was fortunate to have been blessed with her mother's composure--and not her father's defensive personality whenever embarrassment reared its ugly head. In this case, embarrassment was a ginger she-cat very close to Sunpulse's age, and similar in appearance too. It was... an easy mistake to make. If you aren't bothering to use your nose, was her snarky self-directed retort.
"Sorry Redcloud, I thought you were Sunpulse. Are you hunting?" And now another cat knows I like to call him Sunshine. Chh. That was just great. Rather than get annoyed with this, however, Hollystorm decided to own it; that was all water under the dam anyway. Couldn't do anything to take it back, so why stress?
Besides, Redcloud didn't seem like the type of she-cat who would tease her for Sunpulse's little nickname. Hollystorm glanced over her narrow black-furred shoulder to see Blackwolf walking off to get a drink, her brother Bonetail on his way back to camp by the looks of it.
Doubting that she would find Sunpulse there, and not wanting to come back to the Clan empty-pawed except for pine needles in her fur and blood under her claws, Hollystorm turned back to Redcloud with a persistent light in her holly-green eyes. "I'd like to join you. And I'm already filthy, so I'd say now's the perfect time to go frog-hunting."
She didn't like pouncing into marsh-muck any mmore than Bonetail did; though she was also guilty of being vain, her desire to serve her Clan well overrode any hesistations she had about hunting in NightClan's wetter, swampier regions. Sometimes you jut had to suck it up and bear it.

"Sorry Redcloud, I thought you were Sunpulse. Are you hunting?"
"That's alright Hollystorm, it was an honest mistake, and yes I was going to go hunting, would you like to join me?" Redcloud asked. "That is, if I'm not keeping you from your, ahem Sunshine." The she-cat added, giving her a brief, playful smirk before her features straightened out once more with Hollystorm mentioning that she wanted to go frog-hunting.
Of all the things she could wish to hunt for, it had to be frogs of course. It made sense though, they were common and quite tasty, at least to her anyways, but she never felt it was worth the trouble of getting them. Redcloud had never considered herself to be a very vain cat, in fact she thought herself to be quite the opposite. However, something about mud and muck squishing up between her toes, coating her fur and requiring her to give herself a good grooming every time she set paw in it was enough to make her shudder.
In fact, she had to try her hardest to repress a shudder as the term slipped from her clanmates' mouth. She certainly wouldn't deny her the right to hunt however, and fave a nod. "Yes, frog-hunting sounds like a good plan, let's be on our way then." She muttered, turning and padding off deeper into the territory not waiting for Hollystorm to respond, she just wanted to get this over with already.

18 Moons. She-Cat. NightClan. No I won't apologize for the fire in my eyes
"That is, if I'm not keeping you from your, ahem Sunshine."
Hollystorm smirked to mask the small ache in her chest, resisting the urge to glance back in the direction of NightClan's camp. I wish. What are you up to, Sunpulse? She felt as though she hadn't spent very much time with him lately; part of that was her own doing. The guilt she felt over sending Coyotepaw with Palebreeze and Bonetail had turned her into poor company; moody, keeping to herself and rejecting social interactions in favor of just getting her work done. She and Bonetail hadn't talked about what happened.
She didn't want to know if he blamed her or not.
Not about to let her thoughts get mired in past miseries, Hollystorm shook out her pelt and took off after Redcloud, falling in step with the ginger she-cat, letting the sights and sounds of the forest take her over. "Do you know if Smokefur needs anything? We might find a herb or two while we're out here." Hollystorm was by no means lazy, but she also understood how to take advantage of a situation when it was presented to her.
There were plenty of plants that enjoyed the damp, wet climate NightClan provided. Plenty of thorny things and sticky things and things with berries or twisting roots. Hollystorm couldn't make sense of it, but that was of little consequence. She knew what hemlock and death berries looked like; that was enough to keep her out of harm's way while they collected herbs for the medicine cat.
In the absence of an apprentice, Smokefur was probably going to have her paws pretty full with the approaching leafbare.
Great. Now the mud's going to be cold. That sullen thought almost had her hiss in annoyance. Frog hunting was a pain sometimes, but what really made it a chore was sticking one's front paws into chilly mud and cold, fetid water to catch the little pests. They were delicious, but the taste only mitigated the work slightly.

"Do you know if Smokefur needs anything? We might find a herb or two while we're out here."
Redcloud thought for a moment, eventually shaking her head in response to the question. "No, unfortunately I haven't checked in with Smokefur today so I don't really know what she needs, if anything at all. However, I'm sure that while we're out we could keep an eye out for herbs anyways. You never know when they might be needed." As they approached the muddy pools, thoughts of the coming leafbare entered the red feline's mind. They would have to work hard in order to keep their clan going strong during the bitter moons ahead. Though she knew it was just the beginning of leaf-fall, that didn't reassure her much. It merely meant that they had only a few moons left before leafbare was upon them, and they would have to be prepared as best they could for the coming season and all the troubles it brought with it. "Leafbare will be approaching soon." She eventually mewled out, turning her head and glancing back at Hollystorm for a moment. "Time has really been flying by hasn't it? Feels like just yesterday Greenleaf was beginning."' Fawn

18 Moons. She-Cat. NightClan. No I won't apologize for the fire in my eyes
What with the drought drying everything in NightClan territory (well, mostly everything), Hollystorm had forgotten what it felt like to have mud stuck between her claws again. Pleased that her pelt had just a bit of length to fill out her form but not so long she had to spend hours grooming it, she took a bracing step onto the muddy pools, ears rotating every few heartbeats, listening for frogsong. Redcloud's mew was met with a disbelieving snort, agreeing with her. "It's like we can blink and a moon's already passed. The heatwave seems to be over, so things can go back to normal." Normalcy was ceremonies, hunting patrols, and no more desperate treks into RainClan territory to bring back enough soaked moss for the elders and queens to survive.
Speaking of ceremonies...
"Starlingcry's kits should be ready to be apprenticed soon," Hollystorm did little to hide the anticipation in her emerald gaze, stealing a glance at Redcloud to see if she shared this desire for mentorship. "Perhaps Dimstar will pick one of us to mentor?" Logic swore up and down that her father, who had been without an apprentice for a while, would be called before the Clan in what felt like the hundredth time to be given a new young kitten to shape into a dedicated warrior.
She was proud of her father, yes, but she was tired of his shadow falling over her, making her easy to forget whenever he was nearby. That's what it meant to be part of a legacy; competing for your own place in the Clan's history. It's what the others expected you to do, but no cat put more pressure on her than herself. She had to make the name 'Hollystorm' stand for something, and sooner or later Dimstar would recognize her as a great warrior. Vigor renewed, Hollystorm's gaze narrowed, body sliding into a sleek crouch as she stalked through the marshland like a water serpent.
Catching the familiar bulging throat of a toad, Hollystorm left a small but unavoidable spray of mud in her wake as she lunged, catching the toad before it could utter so much as a final warning peep. Satisfied with her catch, she stepped around the deeper pools to rejoin Redcloud.

NightClan Deputy - 30 Moons - She-Cat "Starlingcry's kits should be ready to be apprenticed soon."
Those words brought a smile to the ginger she-cat's face. "Yes, they've grown up quite fast. I can imagine they must be very excited by the prospect of becoming apprentices." She chuckled softly at her own memories of her time as an apprentice and recalled how excited she had been, standing before her clan as she was given her own mentor. Such youthful and innocent times were the memories she'd made during those moons. Ones that could be recalled fondly, unlike some of the more dark and deadly memories she'd made since becoming a warrior.
"I certainly wouldn't mind mentoring one of the little ones either. If we both end up mentoring one of them though, you owe us a joint training session." She let out a playful giggle before soon falling completely silent as her ears caught the sound of frogsong and before she knew it, Hollystorm had bolted past her, inadvertently splashing her with mud as she lunged for her prey.
Shuddering from the sudden spray, Redcloud shook herself a bit, futilely attempting to shake some of the much from her pelt. She gave a soft huff to Hollystorm as she soon rejoined her, toad in mouth. "Thanks for the warning." She mewled out, giving her comrade a gentle nudge to show she wasn't serious in any sense.

18 Moons. She-Cat. NightClan. No I won't apologize for the fire in my eyes
"Sorry," Hollystorm replied, sounding not quite as remorseful as she should've, the humor in her eyes clear. It hadn't been intentional, but it was a little funny to see flecks of mud on Redcloud's bright ginger pelt. "You have a deal. Joint-training sessions will be a good experience for them. You've trained another cat before, haven't you?" Redcloud was a little over ten moons her senior; Hollystorm could somewhat recall hearing bits and pieces about Redcloud having mentored someone before.
That question would have to go unanswered, however, as the sharp bark of her father echoed through the trees. "Hollystorm! Get back here!"
Hollystorm scowled. He still bosses me around like a kit. With a roll of her eyes, the black she-cat stretched, arching her spine and taking her sweet time about preparing to go. "I'd better get back. Blackwolf would prefer I train until I can kill a fox in my sleep." This was followed by a snort. Though she appreciated her father's martial prowess, his ability to be an aggressive, ill-tempered teacher wasn't very much fun to deal with. He didn't go easy on them just because they were his kits.
"Let's talk again soon, Redcloud." She smiled at the other she-cat, picked up her toad, and headed back to the pine needle clearing before Blackwolf got any more impatient.
