Description Summary: A sturdy, short-furred cream she-cat with black points and icy blue eyes.
Description:
Shadefrost isn’t the lightest, sleekest, or most elegant and dainty of cats. She’s built quite the opposite, with a powerful build, strong torso, and sturdy legs. Her size gives her strength, and her strength [and training] makes her a force to be reckoned with. Her mentor focused on training her muscles and her mind, turning her into a strong warrior with no hesitation in battle. She’s confident in her strengths, and never fails to deliver a strong blow when needed.
As for her fur, it’s sort and rather soft, making the weight of water and greenleaf heat much more bearable. Her coat is a nice cream color, with her legs, tail, face, and ears a solid black. There’s a soft-edged patch of black near her hindquarters on both sides, and a bit of cream separates her ears, and separates her ears from her face. Her nose is solid black, and her chin and cheeks are a dark cream mixed with light black.
Her eyes, however, brightly contrast with the rest of her appearance. They are a bright, icy blue, popping out against the dark black of her face. Her eyes almost always have a hard edge to them, slightly narrowed into a scowl or glare.
Personality:
hell hath no fury like a woman scorned
Loyalty is something that has been pressed upon Shadefrost since a young age. Her parents, both pure-blooded, severely loyal, impressed on Shadefrost and her siblings the importance of loyalty to RainClan above all else. With constant stories of how their loyalties helped them to lead healthy, happy lives, and tales of times their loyalty saved their lives, it’s no wonder Shadefrost grew to be devoted to her Clan above all else. Though she loves her family dearly, her devotion to RainClan is stronger.
For a while, Shadefrost let her love of another nearly override her loyalties to her Clan. Yet when the tom she loved proved to be only half RainClan, and even left to be with his father in NightClan in his final months, Shadefrost forced herself to abandon all good feelings toward the tom she would have once died for. The kits they had had together prove to be difficult for Shadefrost, as her maternal love and loyalty to them is forever tainted by the betrayals of their father.
Shadefrost knows now that her loyalties lie with RainClan, first and foremost, and everything else must come after, even family. With Timberstar’s heritage now out in the open and the division within RainClan nearly tearing them apart, Shadefrost is ready to cleanse RainClan and restore them to former glory, with only pure cats at the helm and their ranks clean of mixed blood. Still, her kits cause her anxiety. She truly loves them, yet she’s uncertain whether they should be punished for their father’s sins or forgiven for the unquestioned loyalties they seem to have. For now, she’s working hard to keep them out of the situation, but knows that there may come a time when she will have to make a choice regarding their fates. That day is not something she looks forward to, and can only hope never happens.
With regards to NightClan, Shadefrost feels the most animosity. NightClan is in Timberstar’s blood, but it is also the Clan that destroyed her relationship, killed her mentor, and tainted her kits’ blood. While not actively seeking NightClan’s destruction, Shadefrost wouldn’t feel pity should the pine-dwelling Clan meet a negative fate.
History:
Shadekit was born into a litter of three, with her brother Sandkit and sister Mink-kit. Their parents, Stormclaw and Palewind, loved their kits as they loved their Clan: fiercely and willing to die for them. From the time the three kits could walk and talk and understand what was being said to them, Stormclaw and Palewind shared stories to reinforce their loyalties to RainClan, hoping to fill their kits with the same strong feelings. By the time they were apprenticed, Shadekit, Sandkit, and Mink-kit had already developed a deep-seated love of their Clan.
Shadepaw was given Yarrowbite as a mentor, a senior warrior who had already mentored several apprentices. He was tough on Shadepaw, building her up to be a strong warrior. Yarrowbite, a skilled fighter himself, focused on using Shadepaw’s sturdy build to her advantage, spending over half of her training teaching her to fight. Shadepaw took to fighting quickly, finding that she enjoyed the thrill of her racing heart and quickened breathing, and she even enjoyed the burn in her muscles after each session. She looked forward to the days Yarrowbite would take her out to practice battle training.
Of course, being a skilled mentor, Yarrowbite did not neglect to teach Shadepaw how to hunt and fish. They spent many training sessions perfecting her skills, but Shadepaw still enjoyed fighting more. Sitting on a riverbank for hours just wasn’t her thing. She needed to move, to flex her muscles, to feel the blood in her veins and hear her heart pounding in her ears.
At the beginning of her twelfth moon, Shadepaw finally got to test her claws.
A routine patrol along the NightClan border became much more eventful when the RainClan patrol caught a NightClan patrol over-marking the border. Yarrowbite, leading the RainClan patrol, called the NightClan cats out on their mistake, warning them back over the proper border. The NightClan patrol, led by their deputy at the time, refused. It didn’t take long for the claws to come out. The numbers were slightly in NightClan’s favor, having four warriors and one apprentice against RainClan’s three warriors and two apprentices. NightClan’s apprentice was younger, though, compared to the nearly warrior-aged Shadepaw and Sandpaw. RainClan struck first, and the battle wasn’t a quick one.
The NightClan patrol put up a good fight. They seemed evenly matched, Yarrowbite taking on NightClan’s deputy, Sandpaw taking on a young warrior, and Shadepaw quickly chasing NightClan’s apprentice back into the marsh. Once the young apprentice fled, Shadepaw assisted Sandpaw’s attack, and together they overpowered the warrior, sending him running as well. Before either the warrior or the apprentice could come running back with NightClan reinforcements, one of the warriors on RainClan’s patrol let out a loud yowl. Sandpaw and Shadepaw both froze, looking over to where the warrior stood, as Yarrowbite’s body fell from the NightClan deputy’s jaws. Shadepaw cried out in agony, racing over to her mentor’s side. Without thinking, she leapt at the NightClan deputy, screeching about murder and injustice and how he was going to pay for killing her mentor. The warrior who had first alerted the rest of the patrol to Yarrowbite’s death grabbed Shadepaw by the scruff before she could reach the deputy, carrying her away. The other RainClan warrior called for Rainclan’s retreat, as the NightClan cats slipped back into their shadows.
Once Shadepaw had sufficiently calmed down enough that the warriors were sure she wasn’t going to run off after the NightClan patrol, she was set down, and the two RainClan warriors carried Yarrowbite’s body back to camp. Sandpaw guided Shadepaw behind the warriors, as she walked with her head down and tail dragging.
Yarrowbite’s death started a hatred of anything remotely relating to NightClan.
Over Yarrowbite’s body, Shadepaw and Sandpaw were made warriors, Shadefrost and Sandfalcon. They sat their vigil next to the senior warrior, and in the morning, Shadefrost went with the elders to watch as Yarrowbite’s body was laid to rest. A few days later, their sister, Minkpaw, was given her warrior name of Minkflower.
Shadefrost spent the first few months of warriorhood in a state of mourning. She was quiet and generally downcast, halfheartedly going about her duties. Neither Sandfalcon or Minkflower could drag Shadefrost from her depression, and Stormclaw and Palewind had the same successes. It wasn’t until a warrior a few moons older than her stepped in that she finally woke up.
His name was Eaglechaser, a dashing tom with a dark tabby pelt and green eyes. He managed to work his way into Shadefrost’s life, finally breaking through her haze and essentially bringing her back to life. In the process, he worked his way into her heart, and the two announced their love for one another roughly seven moons later. With Eaglechaser by her side, Shadefrost felt invincible, and they seemed to be strong, dedicated partners, whose loyalty to each other rivaled that of their loyalties to RainClan.
At 25 moons, Shadefrost found herself expecting kits. Being such a determined warrior, she didn’t immediately move to the nursery, instead continuing to perform her duties as a warrior throughout the first moon of her pregnancy. When she entered her second moon, Palewind practically dragged her to the nursery, and though unhappy sitting around all day, Shadefrost abided her mother’s wishes. A little over a moon later, she gave birth to three small kits, the last of which was stillborn. The kits’ small sizes and the death of the third were attributed to her activity during the beginning of her pregnancy, and Shadefrost promised Eaglechaser that should they have another litter, she wouldn’t make the same proud mistakes.
Despite their smaller sizes, Lotuskit and Willowkit, both she-kits, grew up happy and healthy. Neither inherited their parents’ bulkier builds, both lean and elegant in shape. Just as Palewind and Stormclaw had before her, Shadefrost attempted to imprint on her kits a strong loyalty to RainClan. She stood proudly by as they were made apprentices, Eaglechaser at her side. Shadefrost’s life went peacefully for the next few moons, before another incident with NightClan rocked her world.
Eaglechaser was out hunting near the NightClan border, when a cat from the opposing Clan appeared, delivering a message. Eaglechaser returned to RainClan camp’s immediately, seeking out Shadefrost. What he told her nearly shattered her.
Eaglechaser had a secret, one that he had kept for his whole life: he wasn’t pure RainClan. His mother was RainClan born and bred, but his father was a NightClan tom by the name of Hollowfur. The warrior that had met him on the border had informed him that Hollowfur had fallen ill, and wanted to see his sons and former mate before he died. Shadefrost was heartbroken; the tom she had fallen in love with, the one who seemed so devoted to RainClan, was only half-blooded, and his NightClan heritage had her remembering Yarrowbite’s murder, tainting her feelings for the marbled tabby.
Shadefrost immediately lashed out, her words cutting him deeper than her claws ever could. Despite her love for him, she felt overwhelmingly betrayed, and refused to even look at him. Dejected, Eaglechaser left, making his way to NightClan to visit his father one last time. He never returned.
Her kits were made warriors two moons later, and though they were her flesh and blood, they were tainted, and Shadefrost began to distance herself from them. Lotuswhisker and Willowbreeze didn’t really understand their mother’s new coldness toward them, so they turned to their strong bond to each other to help them through.
Her half-Clan mate had lied to her, abandoned her, and left her alone with two impure kits, and Shadefrost’s hatred of NightClan burned hotter. She was torn between wanting to patrol the NightClan border just to start fights, and wanting to avoid the pine dwelling cats altogether to steer clear of the possibility of facing Eaglechaser. Despite her best strategies, she managed to face another border skirmish between RainClan and NightClan, having to face her ex-mate head-on. They were both leading patrols along the border, and were content to just pass each other by, when some of the younger warriors started to pick a fight. Claws were unsheathed, and Shadefrost and Eaglechaser found their claws pointed at each other.
There wasn’t a clear winner between them; they were evenly matched, and had spent so much time together that they knew each other’s moves and could anticipate them, making it hard for their of them to land a successful blow. They both eventually tired out, each going their separate ways with moderate injuries on both patrols.
Shadefrost avoided the NightClan border after that. Turning her claws against Eaglechaser had turned her insides into a mess; she realized that some part of her still loved him, despite what he had done to her. She couldn’t bring herself to forgive him, though, for hiding his heritage and ultimately abandoning her for his father’s Clan. By avoiding that border altogether, she managed to buy herself time to bury her feelings, instead pushing herself to become a better, stronger warrior.
When Timberstar’s own half-Clan heritage came to light, Shadefrost was quick to stand by Swanfeather’s side. Now, at fifty-seven moons, Shadefrost is determined to help eradicate the impurities in RainClan, starting with Timberstar. To her own kits, her maternal bond to them prevents her from wishing them harm, but she has to keep reminding herself that their blood is not their control, and she draws relative comfort knowing that it was only her ignorance of Eaglechaser’s birthright that put her kits in this situation, and she tries to keep the purist focuses away from Lotuswhisker and Willowbreeze. They seem content, for now, to focus on other cats, but she can’t help but wonder if it’s only a matter of time before they target her kits, or even herself.
TL;DR
Was born to two purists, Stormclaw and Palewind, with deep-set loyalties and values, along with her brother Sandfalcon and sister Minkflower. Watched her mentor, Yarrowbite die at the paws of one of NightClan’s former deputies. Fell in love and had kits with a cat named Eaglechaser, unaware at the time that he is half NightClan. When Eaglechaser’s NightClan father falls ill, Eaglechaser leaves RainClan after being rejected by Shadefrost. They later meet in a battle that ends in a stalemate, as they are too evenly matched to even begin to best one another. With RainClan’s civil war at hand, Shadefrost stands on the Purist side, though worries that her kits, Lotuswhisker and Willowbreeze, could be targeted by the other purists for their NightClan bloodlines.
