[smear:fad084]Minnowpaw[/smear:c7f2ff] ~~~~~~~~~
Amber-tinged green eyes gazed into the softly writhing waters of the Willow Stream. Lost in thought, the cream-colored she-cat pawed at the surface waters absently. The water rippled around her touch, the cool water enveloping her paw with each slow strike. Having lived the fifteen moons of her life in RainClan, however, the water had little effect of her fur; it didn't cling to her like it might on the cats of the four other Clans. Perhaps this was why she didn't mind being out of camp on a day such as this.
A mist-like drizzle fell from the overcast skies, trying its best to soak the RainClan apprentice's fur to no avail. The she-cat couldn't even be bothered to shake out her mid-length fur. A sigh heaved from her chest as her plume-like tail swished through the surrounding undergrowth. What a bizarre, terrifying set of days this had been. It felt as though she had watched her family tear itself apart, even if many of the RainClan cats involved were not her direct relatives. They were all part of the same Clan, yet several RainClanners had left the camp to follow Swanfeather, spewing something about 'Half-Clan'.
Minnowpaw had remained in the RainClan camp. Though she likely wouldn't have been allowed to side with the other half of RainClan if she'd wanted to, Minnowpaw couldn't imagine betraying her mentor like that. The RainClan leader had been nothing but patient with her during their training ; now it was Minnowpaw's turn to be patient. The events unfolding in RainClan in recent moons had left her training on a scale of less importance. This partially explained her still bearing the title of apprentice, despite having passed the age of twelve moons. That... And she wasn't exactly the strongest of learners in RainClan.
A strange smile cracked her lips as her weight shifted. Just as average as average can be. She thought to herself. Her ears had grown accustomed to the peace offered by the surrounding stream. She's certainly not been expecting an interruption; certainly not one by her own voice. "I just hope this all settles soon..." Some might find it strange she could surprise herself with her own voice. But the somewhat hoarse tone brought on by her recent silent moons made her voice sound strange. Speaking didn't really seem all that appealing given RainClan's current situation. Giving her coat a shake to flatten the prickling fur, Minnowpaw cleared her throat.
Great.. Now it turns out you're nuts too. Oh Minnowpaw... What will we do with you?
The young she-cat shook her head, before rising to her paws. Glancing over her shoulder, she decided she should probably return back to camp. Despite how peaceful it was here, someone might start to worry if she didn't return, after having vanished without really notifying anyone she was leaving. But... A few more minutes peace couldn't hurt, right?

If there's love in this life,
21 Moons. She-Cat. RainClan. ---
It had been what felt like many moons since Bitternwing had last set paw in the wooded cove. She missed the bird sounds, the croaking frogs, the whisper of the leaves in the trees. It was also one of two places in RainClan to find shelter on a hot day, but the so-called... purists had taken it for themselves.
Bluewave had ordered her and Duststorm on a patrol. Bitternwing surprised herself by falling into the lead on this one, as she preferred to be a follower over a leader, but Duststorm's lack of enthusiasm had her rising to the occasion instead.
They were to patrol along the willow stream, and bring back fish for their Clanmates if they could. Bitternwing, pelt prickling with the usual anxieties (how horrible it was, to walk in your own territory with the fear of being attacked by cats you'd once shared the warriors den with), was grateful Bluewave had selected the willow stream. Even if it was awfully close to the wooded cove...
It was shady enough here that even she, with her denser pelt, could stand the heat.
Noticing a small pale shape in the distance, Bitternwing's brown downy ears pricked. "Minnowpaw?" Poor 'paw, Timberstar's been so busy lately...
Bitternwing glanced back at Duststorm, assuming he would not object to bringing the apprentice with them on their patrol. "Would you like to come with us? Duststorm and I are just renewing the scent markings, though I'd like to fish afterward." Maybe she could teach Minnowpaw a thing or two? Help the young she-cat, even if she didn't consider herself the best mentor in the forest.
RainClan needs to take care of each other, now more than ever. Bitternwing's soft gaze grew resolute, but kindly. She would help any cat that needed it. She may not've been pure RainClan born, but her heart was. --
There's no obstacle, that can't be defeated.Word Count: 320 WordsTags: @marshymutt , BlooRey DVD Notes: xD Hope you don't mind if I revive this.

Duststorm remained a few pawsteps behind Bitternwing whilst they patrolled the Willow Stream. His cowardly nature and the recent civil war occurring in the clan making him uneasy and he couldn't help but continually look over his shoulder for fear someone was creeping up on him. Of course though, every time he looked there was never anything there, but he still continued this pattern, remaining wary of his surroundings while still doing his best to put on a rather poor facade of bravery in attempt to make it seem like he wasn't scared out of his mind in that moment. Briefly, the tom had looked off into the distance in the direction of the wooded cove and silently wondered to himself when this would all be over. He felt it was bad enough that they had to worry about fighting off predators and cats from other clans, but adding the extra weight of having to worry about being attacked by your own clanmates was enough to topple any warrior's courage. 'Or perhaps I'm just making up excuses for myself.' He thought in the back of his mind. He didn't have much time to think about it though as they soon came upon young Minnowpaw. "Would you like to come with us? Duststorm and I are just renewing the scent markings, though I'd like to fish afterward." He could hear his counterpart ask, to which he gave a curt nod of his head. "Yes, we wouldn't mind having you along with us! We could always use the extra company." He purred out. Certainly the addition of a member to their little party would be helpful in taking his mind off of everything that was going on lately, if only for a little while. BlooRey DVD Fawn

It was a wonder Minnowpaw didn't simply jump out of her skin. Having lulled herself into a false sense of security, she'd certainly not expected other cats to approach so soon. Though... 'Soon' was a relative term. Really, she had no way of gauging just how long she'd been drifting off in her own world. With a slight skipping leap, the fawn coloured she-cat whipped around to lock eyes with the newcomers. Wide, off-amber eyes took a moment to focus properly on the two cats, leaving her unaware of just who she was dealing with for a few heart-pounding moments.
Bitternwing! Her mind finally screamed out the name of the young RainClan warrior standing before her. Her ears couldn't quite seem to decide what to do, for they pinned against her skull before flashing forward, and finally flicking into an awkward, outward facing pose. For some reason she could not fathom, her heart was left hammering against her ribcage, as though the two warriors were a threat to her. But they were both RainClan, and not of the purist part of RainClan either. Forcing herself to let out a shaky breath, Minnowpaw pushed herself into what could only be referred to as an awkward perch.
At the invitation, Minnowpaw's gaze flashed from Bitternwing to Duststorm and back again. Th-They... Want me to come along..? A look of surprise crossed her features, clear as day while the apprentice hauled herself into a standing pose one more. Taking a careful and pensive step forward, she looked to be mulling over the warrioress' words in her head. "Oh... Hi Bitternwing, Duststorm... Thank you for the invitation; I guess it's a better use of my time than sitting here on my own, right?" She laughed a little awkwardly, ducking her head.
They probably though her useless. Why else would she be out here by herself instead of doing something for the Clan. She stepped closer to the pair, intending to slip into step with them as the newly expanded patrol set forth. "I can help mark the borders... But I can't make any promises about fishing. It's not something I really excel at." Her smile still had an awkwardness to it, and the tilt of her ears indicated that something was off about her. She was doing her best to shake it off, but the stress of recent days had left her weary and without energy.
"So... Where have you guys already been, and where are we headed now..?"

21 Moons. RainClan. She-Cat. "We just started, actually." Bitternwing answered, smiling in the soft way in which she always did, her rounded, fluffy features giving her a friendly disposition with minimal effort.
Heartened that Duststorm was so welcoming, she smiled at him too, signally with a soft swish of her bottlebrush tail that the patrol of three were on the move. It's a good thing we found her. Her heart iced over at the thought of what might befall the young she-cat out here on her own. Judging by Minnowpaw's words, she had perhaps been out here for a while; perhaps there was luck on the pale kitten's side. That was good, they could all do with a little luck right now.
Bitternwing wanted dearly to believe that the purists, her Clanmates, would remember who they were. Wouldn't dare harm an apprentice, and not hold Razorstar's heritage against his daughter. Yet therein the fluffy she-cat's heart, a kernel of doubt and worry that cats drastic enough to make such a bold stand against Timberstar wouldn't hesitate to cross another shocking line.
Minnowpaw's inquisitive voice brought her out of her concerns, Bitternwing's focus breaking through her cloud of thoughts like a duck plunging its head underwater for a bite at the fish.
"Oh don't worry, you have two warriors with you Minnowpaw. We can help you fish if you'd like to get in some extra practice." With a powerful surge of almost maternal instinct, Bitternwing felt determined to assist the smaller she-cat.
But first, borders.
"We're supposed to renew them along the nightClan border." Bitternwing couldn't explain why, but she instinctively lowered her voice, as if their volatile neighbors might overhear. "Please be careful, everyone."
She had to resist the urge to check over her shoulder more than once; she might be better off looking straight ahead into NightClan's dark, wooded marshlands if she wanted to detect the first hint of danger.

Jaycry - 705 - BlooRey DVD Fawn @marshymutt - hope you's don't mind me hopping in!The silver furred tom had found himself guiltily escaping the confines of the camp and letting himself out into the territory without a word to one of his Clanmates. He knew it was considered dangerous to leave by yourself and that cats were advised to travel in groups but the whole situation had been leaving him feeling quite claustrophobic. He was continuously craving the time he spent alone with his own thoughts where he didn't have to hear the murmur of voices around him and so just before he'd thought he was going to lose it, he'd slipped out when the others were distracted feeling like nothing more than an apprentice who had snuck out without their mentor's permission. Flicking his ears, he'd kept completely alert- azure gaze flicking from side to side and ears pricked. This whole civil war thing had left him feeling uneasy and frustrated, they should not have to feel like prey in their own territory! Yet most of the cats seemed too bewildered by the whole situation to know what to do and now rumor had it that Timberstar was growing ill. His unsheathed claws had sunk into a tuft of grass as he felt a stab of anxiety hit him, was RainClan really falling apart?! He had stood taller then, lashing his striped tail angrily and letting his gaze blaze a dark blue. That would not happen! He would not be nervous to be in his own territory, let the traitors come at him, he'd show them what happened to those that were disloyal to their own leader! Huffing, he had stalked forward and broke into a run of sorts in an effort to stretch his long legs and calm his burning rage. He knew his thinking was irrational and that if he were to be confronted by purists that he would most likely be outnumbered and so he kept a wary eye out for any suspicious movements despite his rebellious thoughts. He had just hopped over a stream when the scent of a mouse collided with his scent glands forcing him to come to an abrupt stop. He tended to prefer the strong tangy taste of fish but he wasn't going to waste the chance to catch prey. He'd intended to bring back some anyway so that he was still doing the clan some good despite his slinking off. However he had only just detected the prey's location and dropped instinctively into a crouch when the sound of voices nearby distracted him and he stepped clumsily on a dry twig which snapped loudly and scared the small creature off. "Mousedung" he'd hissed before lifting his head and turning slowly in the direction the voices had come from, fur bristling defensively and claws slipping out. If a group of purists were planning on attacking him or stealing his prey...However he let his claws slip back into place and felt his fur lie flat on his shoulders when he picked up the scent of the cats which confirmed that they weren't a threat. He hesitated, they were at a distance that he could still slip away unnoticed but the thought was accompanied with a stab of guilt. He ought to be helping with patrols especially at times like this and so with a heavy sigh he'd stepped out of the thick vegetation that had been covering him and approached the group with his tail raised in greeting in an attempt to not startle them. He didn't feel like getting his ears clawed.
When he finally reached them he dipped his head in friendly greeting, blue gaze resembling calm pools of water as he recognized Bitternwing and Duststorm accompanied by the apprentice Minnowpaw. "I hope you's don't mind me joining you's on this patrol?" He asked the question with a calm politeness as he let his tail tip brush the grass beneath him in a more eased position. Despite his enjoyment of being alone he had to admit, being in a group felt much more secure at times like this. However he did feel much more on edge then he should have to in his own territory and he sighed inwardly, how much longer would this last? |

"Please be careful, everyone."For some reason unbeknownst to him, these words caused fear to bubble up inside of him. Perhaps itwas due to them being so close to the Nightclan border, or the fact that the purist camp wasn't too terribly far from where they were. Whatever the cause, it put him on edge, and he had been looking away in the direction of Nightclan territory when Jaycry approached them. "I hope you's don't mind me joining you's on this patrol?"
The sound of the grey tom's voice caused Duststorm to jump, practically out of his fur. He quickly whipped around, fine brown and white fur bristling along his spine as he faced the newcomer. "Oh, Jaycry! It's just you." He breathed a sigh of relief, happy that he did not have to worry about fighting on this day. He wasn't really sure he would have been able to handle it anyways. "Oh, surely it wouldn't be a problem for you to join us. The more the merrier after all." He chuckled awkwardly. BlooRey DVD Fawn @jem

~~~~~~~~
Blinking at Bitternwing, the RainClan apprentice listened politely to the other she-cat's words. A hint of a shy yet appreciative smile ghosted over Minnowpaw's features at the warrioress' kind words. Glancing down at her paws, which were kneading the ground slightly, she fumbled to find the words she wanted to speak. In truth, she felt a little inadequate in her training recently. With Timberstar busy so often, training wasn't something that occurred a lot. A guilty part of her wished she would be assigned a new mentor, just so she could finish her training. "I would... Like that very much. I don't get to practice very much..." Before long, the patrol began focusing on the task at paw.
It was strange, the way the two other cats' tension made Minnowpaw's own, previously dormant tension rear its head. Alone, it was as though she'd forgotten the unfortunate and dangerous situation RainClan was living in. But with the company of Bitternwing and Duststorm, it felt as though her fun were crackling with a nervous energy. The fur along her spine stood on end slightly, her murky eyes glancing to and fro as though expecting something horrible to jump out of the bushes at any moment. Maybe going out here alone earlier today really had been a stupid idea on her part...
Her ear pivoted as a sound caught her attention. She glanced in the direction it came from, her gaze landing upon Jaycry a moment before he started speaking. His presence was not what alarmed her; after all, she'd spotted him and recognized him as one of her actual Clanmates, and not one of the purists or one of NightClan's warriors. Instead, what spooked her was the fact Duststorm seemed to miss the other tom's approach and leap out of his fur. Minnowpaw hopped slightly in alarm, instinctively pressing herself against the closest member of the patrol. That happened to be Bitternwing.
Her heart hammered against her ribcage, and felt as though it were trying to escape through her throat. Several strangely terrifying instances seemed to crawl by, though time did not alter its path in the slightest. Finally, Duststorm acknowledged Jaycry for who he was, the warriors beginning a small conversation between one another. It seemed as though Jaycry would also be joining them. The more warriors, the safer they would be, right? Then why was it that she felt so uneasy?
Forcing her frame to unglue itself from Bitternwing's side, the apprentice struggled to flatten her fluffy pelt, which stood on end after the ridiculous events that had unfolded. Glancing sideways at Bitternwing, she swallowed before mewing softly. "S-Sorry... I was surprised..." The sudden urge to laugh surged in the apprentice, though she steadfastly bit her tongue. Oh StarClan, what on earth had just happened? What a mess RainClan was in right now...
21 Moons. RainClan. She-Cat. Oh! A ripple of surprise passed over the fluffy she-cat's face, right before one of her Clanmates went airborne, Duststorm leaping like a salmon trying to get upstream; her whiskers nearly twitched in amusement if it weren't for Minnowpaw seeking shelter in her dense, plush mottled brown coat. She gave the she-cat's ear a soft lick, purring at the humorous situation that had unfolded. "Of course, Jaycry. We'd be happy to have you. Everyone alright?"
Unlike the rest of her companions, Duststorm's comical reaction actually helped ease some of the tension in her body. The addition of Jaycry—another capable warrior to their little party of three—was met with a smile, the fluffy she-cat wondering if he would perhaps like to take the lead.
If she hadn't been so hyper-aware of her surroundings, Jaycry likely would've surprised her too. Perhaps RainClan cats were easier to sneak up on, since their prey did not require that they be quiet to catch it? It was more about speed and not letting one's shadow spill over. All in all, his scent and voice had reached her before she'd glanced around to see him, and that certainly helped subdue some of the shock of seeing a Clanmate seemingly appear out of nowhere.
Seeing that everyone had caught their breath (for the most part), she looked to Jaycry next. "Would you like to lead the patrol?" He was only a couple moons older than she was, wasn't he? They had been apprentices about the same time. Bitternwing, truly, would be relieved to pass on the leadership role to someone else though.
Jaycry - words - @marshymutt BlooRey DVD Fawn - notesAmusement crossed his features momentarily at the startled reaction given at his sudden appearance. Maybe he should've approached them all a little louder whilst yowling his presence he thought with a bemused twitch of his whiskers. It was Duststorm that had seemed the most startled and Jaycry dipped his head in greeting as the other Tom calmed and greeted him. However it seemed the apprentice grew startled by Duststorm and practically dived into Bitternwing who seemed to be the only one who'd remained relatively calm through everything. Biting back a mrrow of laughter, he twitched his ears in grateful acknowledgement to Dustsrom's letting him join. He tipped Minnowpaw lightly on the shoulder with his striped tail, feeling slight pity stir in him. Her training was probably getting neglected recently with Timberstar being in bad shape...He sighed and stood taller, feeling slight anger mix with his amusement. As funny as the whole situation had looked, the reality of it wasn't something to really laugh at. The only reason they were so spooked by his appearance was because they couldn't feel the safety their own territory should be able to provide. When in StarClan would this all end? He blinked with surprise when Bitternwing asked him if he'd like to take the lead. For a few silent moments he searched her gaze, not wanting to take it from her if she was just trying to be polite. However all he could catch was a flash of hopefulness and he realized that the she-cat didn't want to be the one leading. He dipped his head respectfully. "Of course if you'd like me to." He murmured as he turned to lead them forward through the thick vegetation with his tail raised and his pawsteps certain. If there was any purists hiding out there they would not see them cowering in fear they would see the strong united loyal and true group of warriors they'd left behind. He'd never minded leading, he wasn't overly ambitious either like he didn't spend his time imaging being leader like some did yet the thought didn't fill him with dread like it did for others either.
He supposed he liked the feeling of control, and he knew it sounded bad he didn't mean he wanted to control others. He meant he liked being able to take a situation and do something about it. Right now having to lay idle and not think of an idea of what to do with the purists left him feeling helpless to properly help his Clan and it was that that he hated more than anything. As he moved he could still feel tension in the air around his Clanmates and desperate to distract them from the unfortunate events surrounding the Clan he spoke up, his voice sounding painfully loud in the silence. "So how have things been going for all of you's lately?" He meowed conversationally, glancing back briefly at the cats. His gaze lingered on Minnowpaw for a moment before it flicked away again. He hoped Timberstar would find the time to continue with her training or even pass it on to someone if it was needed. He liked to think that a former Clanmate wouldn't hurt an apprentice but with the way things were she could do with knowing all the defense moves she could possibly learn. He returned his focus to the NightClan border, slowing as they reached the scent markers. He couldn't help but feel strength run through his veins as he stood with the patrol of cats, despite how terrible the situation was he'd sensed a stronger in unity in the RainClan cats that had remained since that day. They would get through this, he knew they would. |
It was only after he had embarrassed himself, jumping nearly out of his skin at the simple arrival of a fellow Rainclan cat that Duststorm noticed that he had in turn startled Minnowpaw. A part of him felt bad for it, he had no business ruining the mood by scaring them with his jumpiness. Yet he would argue that he couldn't help it, it was just his natural reaction.
Still, he couldn't help but feel bad for startling the poor paw. So in turn he dipped his head apologetically to her before Jaycry started leading them off on their patrol. The handsome tom went silent for a while, resisting the urge to complain about his paws hurting in favor of listening to the cats around him. Surely with time someone would say something, hopefully not relation to the traitors. That was the last place his mind needed to be now.
He perked up a bit upon hearing Jaycry ask how things have been going for everyone. Finally, a question that he was more than happy to answer. "Oh I've been simply wonderful lately, thank you for asking." He purred. "Though I'll admit, I've been feeling a bit lonely as of late. I don't really understand why though, I've interacted with others whenever I had the chance. It's just that....oh I don't know, I feel as though something's missing."
Sheepish glances became the main expression returned to each of the patrol members by the apprentice. First, it was for Bitternwing, apologizing yet again for using the older she-cat as a fluffy shield. Soon after, it was transferred to Jaycry, the gray tom having tapped her softly on the shoulder with his tail. She felt bad that her reaction may have made him feel... Unwanted? It had likely looked as though she were scared of her own Clanmate. Which, in a sense she was... But it wasn't Jaycry who was the problem. Jaycry had simply caught them all off guard, when Minnowpaw was already feeling on edge.
Lastly, of course, was Duststorm. The tom met her gaze, even offering her a nod of apology, as though he thought it were his fault. Minnowpaw wasn't sure she agreed with that, but simply smiled sheepishly at the older cat. This hasreally turned into a bit of a mess, hasn't it? Forcing her breath out in a soft little sigh, the fawn she-cat hoping to calm herself down in doing so, the RainClan apprentice looked from Bitternwing to Jaycry as the two briefly discussed leadership of the patrol. She wasn't good at discerning things, but to Minnowpaw, it hadn't seemed as though Bitternwing wanted to lead.
In the end, it was Jaycry who took lead position. She blinked softly, almost envious of the confidence with which he strode through the undergrowth. Bounding slightly to catch up, the young she-cat eventually found herself falling into step with Bitternwing. Minnowpaw surveyed the undergrowth to her left, seeing as the older she-cat was on her right, and therefore she could not be attacked from that side without Bitternwing noticing first. She assumed the other she-cat was doing the same; after all, it made the most sense to divide the work that way.
As the warriors began conversing, sparked from a question posed by Jaycry, the youngest of the group remained quiet. Minnowpaw believed herself to be equal parts unassuming and uninteresting. Surely, nothing she could say would be of any interest to the older cats, even if it was simply polite conversation. She felt safest remaining silent, focusing on the surroundings with their voices drifting through her consciousness.
