Firestar LightingClan Leader Sixty-One Moons 460 WORDS NOTES BLABLA |
The russet pelt of a taller male brushed against the fur of the LightingClan leader as he sat beside her. Her head tilted to brush against his shoulder for a moment before leaning back.
"I asked them both to come as soon as they could." The tom told her as he let out a soft purr. Firestar thanked him with a quick nod as her attention drifted back to facing outward onto her camp. There was a lot that needed to be done, Newleaf might have started to arrive but nothing substantial enough to ensure LighitngClan's safety. Firestar was planning something to change that.
Foolish rivals often saw her outward appearance and assumed she was a diplomat, using her words to enforce change, she was quite the opposite. Firestar was no stranger to using her claws to make a point and the intention of the planned meeting was going to be an extension of that. The LightingClan leader had given instruction to her mate to notify Redscar and Rookfrost of the meeting, no details were given other than to come to her den at once. Rookfrost was given added instructions to leave his newly acquired apprentice to remain behind.
"You have your eyes on sun stones?" Her mate asked. Her head turned quickly meet his gaze.
"You know me too well," She answered with a slow blink. Russetfall gave a purr that sounded like a soft chuckle.
"I'm surprised you didn't want to teach TreeClan a lesson," He replied. The mated pair had a learned habit of looking away from each other and talking. Russetfall claimed it was because her eyes were too beautiful and he got lost. Firstar knew it was because it allowed them the ability to watch their surroundings. The two had lived for many moons being each other's perfect half. They always kept each other safe. Russetfall nearly went into a rage after he learned of what happened at the TreeClan border. It was Redstar's choice not to act upon it, he'd rather take on TreeClan and teach them a thing or two, but he also knew that Sun Stones would be a valuable asset for their Clan. Old scores could be settled at a different time.
"I've wanted those stones since the day we lost them. I earned my warrior name on those stones," He added after a moment before rising to her paws. "As they arrive tell them to join me in my den, then you can either stay here or join us. That is your choice." She told him meeting his gaze again. Russetfall nodded but didn't offer up his choice just yet, instead he watched his mate disappear into her den.

⇒Medicine Cat of LightningClan⇐
Rookfrost was not the sort of cat to ignore a summons from a Clan leader. Particularly when it remained important that he portray himself to be an astute, contributing member of the Clan. Winter had seen him thrive, secretly reveling in the distress and disease that tore through LightningClan like a tempest, but he had not lost his head.
Having already informed Firestar that he would be accepting Kindleflare as his medicine cat apprentice, Rookfrost arrived with little expectations beyond Firestar wanting a simple update on the state of the Clan's mental and physical well-being. This was something he could provide. Anything that didn't fall into the category of 'medical' or 'informative' would leave him with an unpleasant sensation of ill-preparedness.
Ill-prepared to care, that is. Feigning concern or interest was proving increasingly challenging, but it was Rookfrost's reputation for being a taciturn healer with little patience or time for emotional outbursts (or, as he put it, 'nonsense') that would save him in the end.
A red-furred warrior ushered him into Firestar's den, and the jet black healer offered a curt, professional nod to the Clan leader. "You requested my presence." He reiterated, sitting in one cold, fluid motion, his icy pale eyes fixed on the stub-tailed she-cat. If Redstar had been 'amicable', then Firestar was driven. That was a trait Rookfrost could acknowledge as being actually desirable, and it was with some tiny spark of interest that he waited for the she-cat to speak.
Unless, of course, they were waiting for someone else to arrive.
If Redscar were to arrive within the next few moments, Rookfrost's theory would prove correct. That this involved the Clan's well-being. If he was entrusted with maintaining their physical health, then Redscar's duty was undoubtedly to hone them into proper defenders and hunters.
That Redscar would call them both together meant that this meeting may very well be interesting to him after all. Rookfrost was never one for hyperbole or excessively colorful words, but the black cat's ear tips twitched, and he anticipated war on the horizon. Bloodshed. Offal. Death throes.
Oh, how he missed it. If he held any beliefs at all, an exclamation towards a deity or deities would have fit well here. But Rookfrost prayed to nothing, and therefore swore upon nothing. Simply waited, turning over potential theories in his mind as if he were picking up and examining river stones, searching for the one most likely to be true.
No wealth no ruin no silver no gold. Nothing satisfies me but your soul.

The change in weather signaled better times for Lightningclan and Redscar was beyond pleased at they had lifted themselves out of the rut they were seemingly trapped in. Strong and decisive leadership would take advantage of this new opportunity for excellence, Lightningclans' new deputy would see to it. As if on cue Redscar was greeted by Russetfall who informed him he had been summoned by their new leader, the positive feelings inside the fiery tom were amplified by the news and he quickly set off towards Firestar's den. Crossing the camp took no time at all and Redscar found himself at the entrance to the leaders den mere moments later, he nearly hesitated before entering but reminded himself as deputy those days were behind him. The darkness of the den left him blinking as his eyes slowly adjusted to the scene before him, he observed the dark shape of Rookfrost along with Firestar. Offering a curt nod he greeted them both as he approached, "Hello Firestar, Rookfrost." This could mean many things however he prayed to Starclan this meant it was time for decisive action, why else would she have called a council? Fawn, Hellion

She was not surprised at their prompt arrival. Firestar knew that both tom-cats were suitable members of the clan and diligent in their duties, her dislike of Rookforst would be put aside for the purpose of the meeting. Rookfrost was the first to arrive and after unexpected 'greeting' Firestar simply nodded. She wasn't about to speak without the other member present. While the two waited for perhaps a few heartbeats, Firestar studied Rookfrost.
Her eyes weren't the keen sharpness like the dark colored tom, but she watched him for a different reason. There was something not right about the medicine cat but still Firestar remained unable to place it. It was more likely that Firestar wasn't ready to outwardly speak against the tom, there was too much to lose. Perhaps after Kindleflare had enough training the calico leader would bring into question some of his actions.
Redscar joined them and Russetfall joined the small council as well. There was very little not sharped between the mated pair and it was expected for the tom to join his mate. Firestar gave a nod in return to Redscar. Her mate moved between the two ranking toms to sit slightly behind her. Russetfall had not pull in the meeting but would only speak if needed.
"I asked you both to join meet with me today because I have important things to discuss, Firestar paused and met the gaze of all three times before continuing on.
"Leafbare as you all know was difficult for all of us and Redwind stepping down as leader was no help either. I believe with every StarClan given life that LightingClan needs to show that we are in fact strong." Her stub-tail twitched quickly as her voice grew even stronger. This was something the petite leader was passionate about.
"I think the Sun Stones would be a valuable addition to our territory and help LightingClan gain an advantage once prey starts running in full strength again. I need you both to help me with his cause. Rookfrost will need to ensure we are all fit to go to war. Redscar will be in charge of making sure our battle parties are in tip top shape." At the mention of each tom's damn she looked at them her eyes seeming to blaze with fire.
"I need to know that I have both of you in agreement with me" She watched them both, waiting for one of them to speak first.

⇒Medicine Cat of LightningClan⇐
Strategy was better suited to Redscar, Firestar's deputy, but that did not stop Rookfrost's thoughts from taking on a militaristic approach, sorting and sifting through the variables involved in warfare. Then, like the flip of a switch, his brain cycled through the remainder and settled on the medical aspect of Firestar's announcement—chiefly, what she expected from him.
"It will take time for LightningClan to recuperate. Starvation and greencough have left many emaciated." A black tufted ear twitched, and there was a brief silence as he considered each patient/victim he had the displeasure of treating this leafbare. "Halfway through Newleaf, and you will have your fighting force."
Of course, that answer might not be good enough. He could bolster their immune systems with herbs, and coordinate with Redscar a training regiment that wouldn't be too taxing on their wasted Clanmates, but the latter sounded like more work than the former. If Firestar pressed him for progress (which would be unusual, considering his special privilege as a medicine cat), he would consider cooperating with the deputy.
Until such a time, Rookfrost was fixed on doing his part without utterly draining the rest of his stocks. He didn't trust these idiots the Clan was comprised of not to harm themselves before the season was out. And, of course, with battles came wounds.
It was not a secret he hid from himself that open wounds and jagged cuts, broken bones and damaged senses were of interest to him. Debilitating disease was a delight, but he rarely hoped for such. Rookfrost looked stern, his expression the kind of severely contemplative that indicated he was thinking hard—recalling old, stored memories of the surrounding territories, searching through the long corridors of his recollections to find where certain plants would grow.
It would take awhile to amass enough for everyone, and he could not rush the spring. The snow had only just begun to melt; the valley, such was the case every year, would be flooded. Another delay in Firestar's war plans. The shadowy tom fell into silence, icy gray eyes set upon Redscar to see what the youthful warrior had to say.
No wealth no ruin no silver no gold. Nothing satisfies me but your soul.

Redscar listened to Rookfrost for what he thought was a socially acceptable amount of time before he interjected his own opinion, "We don't have the luxury of time. I have no doubt that Stoneclan is in just as bad of shape as we are, however by mid-season they could be better off than us." He waited a few moments as he looked between the leader and medicine cat before driving his point home, "This is the only time we can guarantee we will be on equal footing, I say we take the chance and run with it." He knew that Rookfrost was the one put in a bind by his plan, however he hoped with proper planning and preparation it wouldn't be squarely on their medicine cat's shoulders. It may have seemed like he didn't care for the safety of his clan-mates considering his high risk plan, this couldn't be further from the truth however. Redscar had faith in his clan knowing they would pull off the daring invasion without incident, and he planned to lead them to victory from the front. Hellion , Fawn

She was no fool, she listened carefully to what Rookfrost had to say. He had valid points, she was no stranger to what happened within her Clan. Plenty of cats had gotten ill recently and some even died from sickness. Firestar even feared that her own kits would fall ill but with countless StarClan prayers they did not.
Rookfrost went on to say that it wouldn't be until halfway Newleaf would they have a fighting force. In all honesty she was not happy with that, but she was also realistic. LightingClan had taken a beating in the past season, they earned their rest. Yet the pressing matters of ensuring a plentiful greenleaf was more important. They couldn't wait that long.
She knew of some cats that weren't as thin, those who were able to fend off the sickness. Firestar also knew of cats that were willing to fight despite their conditions, those willing should be those allowed.
"Perhaps those who didn't get sick can hunt more often, put more efforts into hunting patrols. More prey can help those recover quicker." She met Rookfrost's eyes for a moment, before Redscar cut in with what he had to say.
She admired his spirits, but he came off as reckless. It wouldn't be smart to just run with it, lives were lost far to quickly when plans weren't carefully made.
"I believe that sooner rather than later is important." Firestar paused for a moment, reaching the eyes of the fellow higher ranking cats.
"Rookfrost, I want every cat within the clan to have a check up. Those who did not suffer any signs of illness during leafbare are to be sent to Redscar." She was careful to make her orders clear to the medicine cat. She knew it wouldn't over work him, instead she saw it as a prime time for Kindleflare to gain some training.
"Redscar, from the warriors that Rookfrost heads your way. I want you create hunting parties, we need to provide for the Clan." She knew it was risky to hunt too much. However, she knew that no hunt was perfect and prey was bound to escpae, but their efforts would be noted.
"I will take on training. I will announce to the clan tonight so those who are deemed fit by Rookfrost can meet me for dawn and noon battle training. I will not ask all warriors to fight, just those who feel it is their duty. However, everyone will have to work hard. I know leafbare was rough but we only have to strike hard and fast to ensure those stones and a better future for LightingClan. Firestar's excitement showed in the rapid twitching of her tail. Their meeting was over, but she waited for any words of objections or ideas to change.

⇒Medicine Cat of LightningClan⇐
"Rookfrost, I want every cat within the clan to have a check up. Those who did not suffer any signs of illness during leafbare are to be sent to Redscar."
Oh, blessed StarClan, how he so enjoyed health check-ups. It was nothing short of a skill carefully honed over many moons in service as a healer, that his face did not betray his extreme dislike of these new orders. Rookfrost exhibited a curt, obedient nod, pausing only a second to consider an appropriate response. "Then I will begin immediately."
Redscar was likewise given a cursory nod, Rookfrost rising to depart from the Clan leader's den. It wasn't that he had read the social cues and intonation in Firestar's voice that signaled he could leave—it was his modus operandi to waste no time doing what needed to be done. No matter how painstakingly boring he found that task to be.
At least, he consoled himself (for lack of a better word; his emotions did not run deep enough for normal definitions to apply), there will be war. Cats would die. Would he be working heavily over these upcoming days? Yes. Would he be elbow-deep in another cat's blood before too long? It was all but guaranteed.
Perhaps Whiteshade would do him a favor and mangle a few of their Clanmates. Rookfrost likened it to 'cutting off the weak limbs', the same way rotten branches fell when the healthy tree rejected them. There were some cats in this Clan who had miraculously (again, for lack of a better word) survived the season.
He would never attribute something to dumb luck. Probability was not a subject he considered often or gladly; however, that didn't mean there weren't a few cases, a skinny black tom who had escaped death more than once before, that baffled him.
As if seeking a heat-source, the icy pale eyes of the Medicine Cat swept around LightningClan's camp—finding Weaselpaw going about his trivial life.
If he had a sense of humor, or allowed for a larger degree of cruelty in himself, Rookfrost would've taken bets.
Bets on whether or not that cat would see it through another leafbare.
No wealth no ruin no silver no gold. Nothing satisfies me but your soul.

Redscar listened to Rookfrosts orders intently and his ears instinctively perked when he heard his name, Rookfrost wasted no time acting on his instructions and the deputy returned the medicine cat's polite nod as he took his leave. Turning his attention back to Firestar the deputy eagerly listened as his leader revealed how he fit into the plan, and it would be a lie to say he wasn't disappointed. Being tasked to organize hunting patrols took him off guard, in his mind the orders seemed pointless as organizing such patrols was already part of his duties. Redscar politely dipped his head towards Firestar and wondered if she could pick up on what the reticence he was displaying indicated about his thoughts, however after staring for a few moments he decided to voice his concerns. "I'll see to it the patrols are sent out, surely there is more for me to do though?" Disrespect was not meant in his words, however he was no longer just a Lightningclan warrior. As the clans' deputy he expected his concerns to be addressed as much as he assumed Firestar expected her orders to be followed. "Training the battle patrol will be a tremendous amount of work, are you sure you wouldn't like my assistance?" HellionFawn

Firestar watched at Rookfrost left and waited for a moment to see Redscar leave, but he did not. Troubled a little by her deputy's choice to linger she perked her ears forward to listen to him fully. She admired him for his duty to LightingClan and his eagerness to do great work only proved further that the she-cat made the right choice of deputy.
She gave him a short nodd then smile to ease any concern he had before she explained.
"I am going to start the battle training to see where certain cats fall. Those who are better on the front lines will remain with me, those who are better suited as support and reinforcements will be sent to you for further tatic training," She paused because she had realized that was she was saying could be taken that she didn't vaule him as a deputy or even a warrior.
TALK"I would rather have my deputy safe, I have lives to lose in the service of my Clan, you only have one. I do not want replace you, not until you want to be replaced," Firestar attempted to be careful in how she talked to him. Redscar was her second in command, there for he was in a unique position and one she felt needed to be protected in at all possible
