There was nervous energy within the calico pelt of the new leader for LightingClan. Behind her walked her newly named deputy and fellow clanmates. It would be her first gathering as leader and that alone was an exciting experience. It was her task now to inform the rival Clans of LightingClan's state and while it was meant to be helpful, it felt like exposing a weakness. Firestar would remain careful in her phrasing to ensure that nothing was heard as a weakness.
The leafbare had been a terrible season for LightingClan but to the ears of rivals they were doing well, their Clan was strong. Flicking her short tail she trekked through the snow cover ground with only a mild setback. Firestar was likely the smallest of all the leaders, besides Ravenstar. It wasn't that she felt insecure about her height or stature, if anything she felt proud of it. Cats tended to underestimate her and that could be used to her advantage.
Her amber eyes for a moment glanced backward to make sure all the cats that traveled with her kept up. Most were doing well. Weaselpaw had been her apprentice for some time and seeing him of warrior age but still not a warrior bothered her. Would the rival Clans see her as a poor mentor or even worse a poor leader? She made a mental note to work on his training and get him into his warrior name before the end of newleaf.
They arrived at StarClan claws with enough time to spare. She paused only a moment, making sure everyone gathered before heading into the clearing. They seemed to be the first ones to arrive, that made Firestar feel easier about this gathering. She didn't hesitate and quickly found her place on the boulder where the leaders spoke. She sat down over looking the sacred land and waited.

♕ LIONSTAR 57 Moons. Leader of TreeClan
The last Gathering felt moons ago. Yes, they happened three or four times a season, but he could not imagine one moon ever lasting this long before; leafbare had been brutal, devastating even. Lionstar had no doubts in his mind that all five Clans would be reporting several casualties and sickness in their camps.
"Watch for branches,” Lionstar cautioned grimly to the cats following in his wake, recalling with painful accuracy how Puddlepaw, his own apprentice, had died under the weight of a fallen tree bough. It had been devastating, and all the more tragic because Lionstar had known, deep in his heart, that they could not endure this leafbare without at least one lost soul. But he had expected greencough, not death from their own Clan’s namesake.
He had lost a life to starvation, and had it only been his life that was needed to pay the blood price to ensure his Clan survived Leafbare, then he would gladly pay it twice over. This death, however, had not come without a small boon; with StarClan’s blessing he had returned to the land of the living with a full belly and haleness restored in his body.
The cat that led TreeClan into the snowy enclosure of StarClan’s Claws was no feeble warrior, weakened by the season and the dark hands of fate. Lionstar raised his head nobly, the scent of LightningClan invading his sensorium with rabbit-fur and frostbitten gorse. Redstar isn’t among them. He noticed, climbing easily onto the boulder to take his place upon the center rock. "Good evening, Firestar." He greeted the new leader with an even tone and a faint nod of acknowledgment. Redstar must have succumbed to greencough—and Firestar was now in charge of the Clan, with a dark ginger tom Lionstar did not recognize sitting beside her. What that meant for TreeClan, he would find out soon enough. Would she challenge them for the open woods?
Mind churning, he drew some calmness from the presence of Skyfall as the white warrior appeared beside him. Meadowleaf had become his deputy in between Gatherings, so the valley was not yet acquainted with this change in hierarchy. He had no reason to explain Skyfall’s purpose here, that the tom was attending in Meadowleaf’s stead, who had just recently recovered from a bout of Greencough. Lionstar had not wanted to risk bringing the sickness to the Gathering, or to see her collapse from weakness in front of the other Clans.
So here they were; Lionstar, leader of TreeClan, and Skyfall, acting deputy until Meadowleaf could resume the role. Leaving the Clan to mill about and chat amongst themselves, he awaited the arrival of the three remaining Clans—wondering at the back of his mind if any absent faces were simply the result of few cats invited, or if they had much more morbid reasons behind them.

"There is much to discuss -" He did not need to raise his voice to draw attention to himself, or to quiet the murmurs of distress, of anger, because he spoke with the confidence of someone who knew what needed to be done. His clan would come to rely on him without difficulty, of this he was certain, because he had an ease about him that made it believable that he had been doing this for so much longer than a couple of days. Already so much had happened, but he seemed oddly unaffected. He regarded his clanmates, those chosen to attend and those not, with an even stare, not wanting to depart for the Gathering until he was sure that not a single doubt remained as to whether or not he would be able to handle all that needed to be addressed. "- I do not take Ravenstar's death lightly, but she was properly avenged -" He caught Sandviper's eye and, even in the midst of a crowd, made the acknowledgement between them somehow private. "- and I do not take Strawberryfrost's death lightly, either, and intend to extract an explanation from RainClan as to why she was found in their river. Silence -" The crowd arrived at a tense, but satisfactory quiet at the slash of his tail. "- I ask of those in attendance tonight to remain on their best behaviour. I understand that we share hostilities with both of our neighbours, but I will not tolerate the fuelling of a rivalry." Although new to power, it seemed to suit him well. He addressed his clan like he was its true leader, with no awkwardness, no uncertainty, and just the right amount of strictness.
When everyone had settled and was ready to leave, he was ready to take them. He was silent the entire length of the journey and trusted that his deputy, Sleekshade, would maintain the party's calm while he was in thought. There was a lot that he needed to discuss with the TreeClan leader and the RainClan leader, and while he would prefer to not drive his clan into war in the midst of a harsh leafbare, it was his duty to protect and defend his clan. He was confident that he would be able to soothe any negativity that lingered between TreeClan and NightClan in regards to Ravenstar and Bloodtalon's death, especially after his warriors graciously aided one of their own. A life had been taken for a life and that, in his mind, resolved the issue. It was unlikely that Lionstar would view Bloodtalon's death similarly to how Dimstar viewed Ravenstar's - like the pair were mere pawns that cancelled one another out - but, differences aside, he was willing to move forward. RainClan, on the other paw, he was undecided about. Strawberryfrost's death had no immediate explanation, and they were forced to draw to their own conclusions based on how it looked: And it looked bad. A life had not been taken for a life in that case and it put him in a difficult position. If RainClan was responsible for the crime, and it would take more than a few short words to convince him otherwise given the evidence, then tensions between NightClan and RainClan, he mused, would not be lessening anytime soon. She was not anymore important to him than the next warrior of NightClan, but she had given him a life, and she was exemplary in her duties. Her death would not be overlooked, nor would it be forgotten. Someone was guilty, and someone would pay.
At his own claws if need be.
When he closed in on StarClan's Claws, only two other clan scents were in the air: TreeClan and LightningClan. That meant they would be the third to arrive, and while he was not one to value the first over the last by so much as a smidgen, he wanted to begin as quickly as possible. Dimstar held his head high, unbothered by the stolen glances, or the curious murmurs, seeing nothing but his podium and the two cats already atop it. Of the belief that their conversation back at camp was still fresh in everyone's memory, he parted from the NightClan cats that had come with him, heading straight for the pair of leaders already present. He trusted that they would mingle pleasantly, and that they would not so soon forget what had been asked of them. If they had, then they would be able to make an example out of him.
"Firestar." He greeted her with a polite stare, refraining from asking the obvious question. They would all be enlightened about what happened to Redstar soon enough. "Lionstar." His eyes, the white of apparitions, fixated upon him with a perhaps unanticipated lack of malice. While he did not tip his head, or so much as offer a smile, it was more than Ravenstar had ever been inclined to give him on a good day. This was not a particularly good day given the weight of what needed to be talked about, but he still acknowledged the leader of TreeClan with a reasonable amount of kindness, and that would hopefully be recognized and maybe even appreciated. When it came time for him to speak he would formally introduce himself, and formally announce his takeover of NightClan in Ravenstar and Slatenose's steed. He had not been the deputy, nor had he held any semblance of power prior to being selected by StarClan, but by the end of this Gathering the rest of the clans would know him.
And they would not forget him.

The cloud of steam billowing from the sand-colored tom's jaws was a testament to the cold that hung suffocatingly over the Clan. The leader's large paws shifted on the stone, for he could feel the all-consuming chill seeping through his pawpads and into his veins. He'd lost a considerable amount of weight this Leafbare, sparing a meal to allow another the chance to eat, more than once this season. Frozenrain had berated him a thousand times for it, and he would apologize to her just as much. But they both knew that he wouldn't stop doing it.
His pale eyes swept over the gathered crowd one final time before his voice greeted the silence. "Those attending, and you all know who you are; you know what I expect of you this Gathering. Hunger has likely affected all the Clans, and we will all be putting on strong faces. But remember there is no use for energy wasted in the form of hostility." With a wave of his tail, he clambered off of his post to take the lead of the patrol. He strode out of camp without another word, followed by the small group he'd chosen to attend this time.
He walked wordlessly for most of the trip, waiting until Wolfclaw pulled up at his side after the deputy took up the rear to ensure no one had been left behind. Hawkstar's movements were even, each step calculated as he picked his way along the familiar path. His shoulders were still broad, but he'd lost some of the size for which he was known with the lacking prey. Even so, there were those in far worse shape than he. It was for this reason Ivywhisker was not accompanying them tonight. The lack of an apprentice left the StoneClan medicine cat busy when the going got tough.
"Well, Wolfclaw, here goes another Gathering, I suppose. I do wonder at who will remain, and who has been lost. Don't you?" It wasn't necessarily a question; it was the rhetorical musing of the StoneClan leader, with a hint of pessimism somewhere beneath the surface. Even Hawkstar couldn't find a way to turn the heavy feeling surrounding this Leafbare around. He had no doubt that it had claimed lives in all five of the Clans. As the StoneClan patrol closed in on StarClan's Claws, the pale sandy tom gave the signal allowing his Clan to plunge into the surrounding area and mingle with the others.
The scents alone told him StoneClan was the fourth to arrive. At least we are not the last. He picked his way to where the other leaders were gathered, separating from his deputy as Wolfclaw joined the other Clans'. It wasn't until he was climbing the boulders that he noticed only one of the leaders he'd known from the previous Gathering remained. Had this Leafbare truly claimed the lives of two leaders? As he slowed to a stop and settled next to a gray tom who carried RainClan's scent, he gave a respectful dip of his head to all three other leaders. "Greetings."

Timberwing The Fox of Rainclan
Oh, mirror in the sky, what is love? Can the child within my heart rise above? Can I sail through the changing ocean tides? Can I handle the seasons of my life?
Being late was the last thing on her mind. After what had transpired only moments ago inside her clan, the waiting leader of Rainclan couldn't care less if the hole valley had to wait until New-Leaf for her to show up to the Gathering. Granted, she wanted to make an appearance, it would look bad if Rainclan was the only clan who didn't show up. It would make her clan look weak, and despite the fact that she could care less what the other clans thought of Rainclan, she didn't want her neighbors getting any bright ideas about trying to steal what little prey was left in the valley or attack for extra land.
There was the slightest ear twitch of frustration as the large, red she-cat led her clan over the frost covered ground, ignoring the way the chilly winds pulled at her long fur. At her shoulder, Bluewave's massive form kept up with her pace. It was almost amusing how the large she-cat felt small next to the blue tom who would eventually become her deputy, once she claimed her nine lives after traveling to Moon Tree. Something she planned to do after attending the Gathering tonight. His silent presence was almost calming, which eased her tense nerves somewhat.
The fox colored feline had decided to leave Vultureback in charge of Rainclan while she took a small group of loyal cats to the Gathering with her. She had left intructions to him, along with Snowfawn, Blizzardclaw and Roselight, to keep an eye on the group of cats who opposed her coming into Leadership, along with Swanfeather. As tempting as it was to kick the Medicine Cat out of Rainclan for challenging her, Timberwing knew it was wiser and in the clan's best interest to keep her and the group of purists there. If she were to openly banish the Medicine Cat, she would only further split the clan, leaving Rainclan with small numbers.
Her head shifted over her shoulder but for a moment, forest green eyes raking over the eight warriors accompanying her, not including Bluewave. They had all been briefed before leaving that she was to be called 'Timberstar' for the night, as well as not share a word about what was happening in the midst of Rainclan at the moment, and she had complete faith in all of them, including the two apprentices. She had picked this group of cats specifically for this reason, yes she could trust and rely on several other cats that were loyal to her, but this was the group she had chosen.
Her plume tail flickered as the group approached Starclan's Claws, she paused for a moment, glancing over her shoulder as she looked at her clanmates, "Remember, there is not a clan here who isn't struggling, but we must act like we are handling this Leafbare." Her voice cracked with age, a cloud billowed around her muzzle as she spoke. "Be on your best behavior." She didn't have to say it, she trusted them, which is why she picked rather well mannered cats. Cats who wouldn't get their tail in a twist at the smallest amount of words or teasing.
Nodding to them, Timberwing headed down the slope, the overwhelming mixed scents of the clans almost knocking her in the nose. Her green orbs scanned the small amount of cats that had been gathered as she headed towards the front with Bluewave and Ottersplash near her flank. The graying she-cat made her way in a lengthy stride, she could feel her joints aching from pain as the cold wind continued to whip at her. From the corner of her eye, she watched as Bluewave nosed Ottersplash towards the other Medicine Cats, the red she-cat feeling sorry for the timid creature, but she wasn't about to leave him back at camp with Swanfeather to drag him into this whole mess between the two of them.
Leaving Bluewave to join the other Deputies, the old she-cat gathered herself and bounded onto the boulder where the other leaders were waiting. Dipping her head towards the others, Timberwing realized that Firestar had just begun to speak when Rainclan had finally showed up. "Apologies." She said softly, noting the change in leaders along with her. Firestar, for starters of Lightningclan, making the old she-cat wonder what happened to Redstar, and a new Nightclan leader. Not expecting Ravenstar to leave this world before her, Timberwing was curious as to what happened to the older Nightclan leader, though not enough to exchange words with the new leader. His face was vaguely familiar. He was probably a kit or near apprentice when she had left Nightclan. His name sat on the tip of her tongue, Duck-... Deep-... Dim- maybe? Whichever name he was, those pale eyes of his were somewhat startling. Turning her attention away from the leaders, Timberwing wrapped her plume tail around her paws, flickering an ear for Firestar to continue.
Well, I've been afraid of changing 'cause I built my life around you But time makes you bolder Children get older I'm getting older, too

Firestar LightingClan Leader Fifty-Eight Moons ### WORDS TAG NOTES BLABLA |
She remained quiet as the other clans started to arrive. This experience of being the leader of a new Clan remained new and slightly overwhelming. Would the rival leaders view her an inexperienced despite her age? Were their connections with StarClan stronger than her own? Questions like that whirled around her head and only settled when she shook out the buzz with a flick of her ear.
Lionstar was the next to arrive. It took a lot for the small leader to hold back her aggression toward the golden boy of TreeClan. Despite the moons that had passed between the battle skirmish, she still bore the scars and still bore the grudge. Her philosophy of kept her from utter anything else besides a greeting. She didn't care for the 'small talk' instead kept her attention at the cats that gathered or let her eyes drift upward to glance at the moon.
The smell of NightClan caught her attention and her eyes drew to the those that joined them. Lead by a grey colored leader, Firestar wondered what had happened to Ravenstar. Likely it would be something tragic, but she wouldn't jump to conclusions. The cat greeted her and Lionstar respectfully, Firestar nodded in own greeting. There was something about him mad her uneasy but she assumed it was because of his apparent stoic nature.
Firestar didn't have long to dwell until the strong scent of StoneClan drew her eyes toward them. Hawkstar lead his clan, Firestar let her eyes narrow as he joined them. It was merely talk back at camp, but Firestar had been discussing with her senior warriors to take Sun Stones for the Newleaf, ensure more prey for them all. It wouldn't be helpful to show hostility just yet, but the prickle of desire for those lands had Firestar on edge. Could Hawkstar sense it? Would you know that hiding under the petite frame of the calico leader was a warrior ready to bury her claws into his hide to protect the lives of her Clanmates. In order to hide her inner-hostility Firestar forced out a polite 'Greetings'.
The final to arrive was RainClan. The sour scent of fish never sat well in Firestar's nose. Even when they took refugee in the LightingClan or when she fought along side them when they drove out StoneClan, it still smelled awful. Firestar was surprised not to Razorstar, that warrior seemed young and full of life, perhaps something terrible had happened, not that she would mourn his death. They seemed to be feeling of distress coming from the cats that also wore the fish-stink. It was likely that like her own Clan, leafbare had hit them hard as well.
Allowing everyone a moment to mingle, Firestar rose to her paws and flicked her short tail to gain attention. When that didn't work she gave a short yowl, her Clanmates turned first and the rest slowly turned their attention.
"Welcome everyone, I will start the Gathering by sharing news of LightingClan." Firestar scanned the crowd before continuing on. "Our former leader Redstar had decided to step down as leader to seek a life in the nursery. She was been remained Redwind. I have chosen Redscar as my deputy." She paused to nod toward the tom-cat. "I am saddened to report that Snowheart our medicine cat apprentice has joined StarClan. We still mourn for him." Firestar took a moment to glance upward at the stars in wonder if her even looked down at any of them. "LightingClan has survived this Leafbare and will be strong in Newleaf." She finished with a nod of her head before stepping back and sitting once again. Motioning for the next leader to speak.

♕ LIONSTAR 57 Moons. Leader of TreeClan
A gray tom carrying NightClan's scent approached the boulder in the center of StarClan's Claws, and Lionstar found himself staring into the deep void of silvery-white eyes. It was an unsettling sight, and no name sprang to the forefront of the golden tom's mind to name this cat with the eerie gaze. He dipped his head politely, anticipating Ravenstar's imminent arrival—what had happened to Slatenose, Lionstar did not know and it was of no great concern of his. The death of Bloodtalon was still fresh in his mind, and he braced himself for the tidal wave of dislike that Ravenstar always brought with her, and he inevitably directed back with a cold shoulder or a tight, humorless smile.
Yet it was a silver tabby she-cat—Sleekshade—that took place near the gray-furred, white-eyed cat.
Lionstar stared. Where is Ravenstar? Could it be that she... ? After briefly greeting Hawkstar, who had just arrived, golden eyes narrowed again when they rested upon the NightClan cats. Ravenstar is dead. And this is the cat that had been chosen to replace her.
Oh StarClan, it was wrong to celebrate the death of another—even an enemy—but he very nearly looked skyward, prepared to study the swath of stars and see if he might spot one incredibly small, angry, bigoted star that had not been there before. The tom almost laughed. Laughed, because no longer would that aggressive nuisance be a thorn in his side. But was it a new era in NightClan, or was this cat standing before him—though seemingly devoid of any malice—Ravenstar's spiritual successor?
It was with a rising hope in his heart that Lionstar felt this was not the case.
Last to arrive—late, even—was RainClan, and they carried with them a different kind of wave. Of tension and unease that Lionstar found peculiar. A suspicion that this had nothing to do with the greencough that had struck the Valley like an avalanche, Lionstar's golden eyes widened as Timberwing, possibly Timberstar, joined them with another blue-furred RainClan cat. Razorstar is dead too?
Lionstar's pelt prickled with unease. It had been a sorrowful Leafbare indeed.
Turning his attentions to LightningClan's new leader, Firestar, he listened aptly as an explanation was finally given of Redstar's unusual absence at the Gathering, followed by unfortunate news of their medicine cat, Snowheart. When the fierce, lithe she-cat said her piece and stepped back, Lionstar took the floor. He had quickly become the most senior of the leaders, and had Firestar not arrived before, Lionstar would have made his report to the other Clans first.
Surveying the gathered felines, Lionstar's voice rang clear and stately throughout StarClan's Claws. "TreeClan has endured. A bout of Greencough has hit us, but we have persevered. Skyfall is standing in for Meadowleaf, our deputy, who is still recovering." Now that that was out of the way, Lionstar went on to other news—some pleasant, some not. "We have lost two cats this season. Pinkcloud and Puddlepaw, who now hunt with StarClan."
His gaze rested gently, briefly, on Bluejay as a respectful silence was held to honor the two fallen cats. Perhaps Bluejay would take comfort in knowing that her sister was watching her—undoubtedly very proud—and would continue to watch her in her upcoming service as TreeClan's medicine cat.
"There are new kits in the nursery," He smiled, thinking fondly of Emberstorm's and Lionsong's litters. "And they already show great promise as loyal cats of TreeClan. Also, Bluejay has become an apprentice to our medicine cat, Littletimber. TreeClan has nothing further to report. The snow and ice may cover us, but our roots are strong."
With a satisfied flick of his tail-tip, Lionstar allowed the next leader to speak for their Clan. He anticipated the gray NightClan cat's words, and looked again to those pale, unsettling eyes. Would this cat speak of Bloodtalon's ambush? His wrongful death at the claws of two NightClan cats? Hopefully not. This was not something to discussed openly at a Gathering. If NightClan's new leader could be trusted, Lionstar wished to speak with him privately on the matter.

Hawkstar lead StoneClan into StarClan's Claws shorty after NightClan arrived, and Dimstar tipped his head to the sand-brown tabby, intending to extend the same semblance of kindness to each of the leaders in their turn. The wait for RainClan was a rather long one, and even though his eyes casually searched the tree line, he showed no outward sign of impatience. The attendance of their watery neighbours was important to him but, he reasoned, that he would be able to speak with their clan leader at a different time if needed. Dimstar, however, began to ponder solutions a minute too soon, a fishy scent washing over his nose as RainClan was lead into the clearing by its former deputy to whom he dipped his head once appropriate.
Razorstar, given his nine lives, had died with abnormal quickness; the tall tom could only imagine what horrors RainClan had faced in order to gain and to lose a leader in such a short span of time. He would have pitied their misfortune had he possessed any genuine concern for the trials his clan's neighbours may or may not have endured. If things were going as terribly as he dared to wonder, then it had not been wise to take a NightClan life. It was hardly the time to make enemies, but Dimstar would oblige to a rivalry in the chance that one of his pristine warriors had died without reason.
He silenced his thoughts out of respect for Firestar's news. Nothing that she reported was, to him, overly interesting, so when she stepped back and handed the conversation to Lionstar, his attention shifted with it. He had not been oblivious to the weight of the golden tom's stare moments prior. His relationship with Ravenstar, the deceased NightClan leader, was hardly a good one, and Dimstar knew that as well as the next cat. It made sense that he would be curious, if not happy, so he had not objected to the TreeClan tom's analysis. When he spoke of the two lives that TreeClan had lost, Dimstar was intrigued by the fact that he blatantly left out one. It was not amusement that caused his whiskers to twitch so much as sobered shock; it seemed oddly out of character for him to not allow a moment of silence for one of his fallen.
Lionstar brought his speech to an end which meant that it was time for Dimstar to speak. He had been waiting for this moment since his clan left camp with as much eagerness as he could hope to muster. "For those of you who do not know my name, it is Dimstar, and I have become the leader of NightClan in Slatenose's place because she has decided to start a family. Sleekshade has become my deputy." He exchanged eye-contact with the tabby beside him who, under the spotlight, seemed to straighten; she stared sharply back at anyone who held her gaze a moment too long. "Ravenstar is not the only cat we have lost. Strawberryfrost, a proud and dedicated warrior, has also moved on to StarClan this leafbare. A moment of silence." Dimstar lifted his head, observing the stars quietly, before continuing. "The death of our former leader is not a mystery to my clan, but I am afraid that the same cannot be said for Strawberryfrost. She was found some time ago in the river." He looked at Timberstar, then, and even though the look on his face was no an accusation, it was clear that he had suspicions. "If you have an explanation, Timberstar, then NightClan wishes to hear it." If not, Strawberryfrost's death would remain unresolved, and that would be nothing short of problematic.
"This leafbare has been hard, as it has been for all of us, but NightClan continues to thrive as it always has and always will. NightClan has nothing further to report." He lowered his voice, focus turning to Lionstar, then, with laser-like intensity. His white eyes were vacant, but what he wanted to discuss with him would be unmistakable. "I would appreciate a moment of your time after this Gathering has concluded."
