[smear:000000]Broken[/smear:ff6633][smear:ff6633]song[/smear:ffffff] ~~~~~~~~~
A strange mess of nervousness and excitement roiled within the tortoiseshell tabby she-cat as she padded forward. She moved at a steady pace, step for step with the brown tabby at her side. She kept stealing glances his way, drawing on his seemingly unshakable certainty to strengthen her reserve. It wasn't that she didn't want this. She did. Zephyrfang had convinced her that it would be a good thing, that it wouldn't change who she was. But she was still so nervous. She'd been known as Brokensong her entire life. It had never seemed wrong to her, in fact, it had always made sense.
But if... No, she liked to think of it as when. When they had kits, would they truly wonder why their mother was broken, all because of a name? Would they see her differently, because of what her name seemed to say? She knew that Zephyrfang only wanted what was best for her. The more she thought about it, the better an idea it all seemed. Even so, this was her name. Could she really go by another name? And yet... Hadn't she always gone by another name, at least in the eyes of the tom she loved so much?
She smiled softly to herself as the pair pulled to a stop in front of Lionstar's den. Standing there with her fur brushing against Zephyrfang's, she knew that she would be able to do this, so long as he was by her side. He'd helped her pick out a new name, one that he'd begun calling her quite regularly since they'd decided upon it. She also realized that she liked the new name. A lot. It was new, yet it was oddly familiar. It was different enough, and almost made her feel... Stronger.
Her hazel-green eyes turned to meet his as she smiled, nervously yet widely, and nodded. She knew that he'd understand she was ready. So long as Lionstar agreed to do the ceremony, and she sincerely hoped that he would, this would be one of her last few encounters as the warriorsess Brokensong. She'd become known not as broken, but simply silent. Silentsong. If Lionstar questioned their motives, she knew she and Zephyrfang would find a way to get him to see that it was the right path. She couldn't help but wrap her plume-like tail around her mate's, turning to face the entrance again and waiting for Zephyrfang to call out for entry.

ZEPHYRFANG
33 Moons. Tom. Warrior.
If Zephyrfang had had any doubts that this was the right decision, the last place he'd be was standing in front of Lionstar's den, calling for the Clan's leader with resolve in his heart. "Lionstar? Can we speak with you?" Yes we, even if he would technically be doing all the talking; impatiently twisting his tail through the air, looking to his mate served as a balm, calming the excitement burning him up like a small wildfire.
"What is it?" mewed Lionstar, coming out of his den with a faint look of surprise—and perhaps caution? It clicked just then in the tawny tabby's mind that Lionstar probably thought he was informing the leader that things in TreeClan just weren't working out. With Stormchaser, Bloodtalon and Thunderclaw gone, the last thing TreeClan needed was to lose a warrior—two warriors even. If Zephyrfang were to call it quits on the 'clan cat lifestyle', he would've invited Brokensong to come with him. Sporing a grin that bordered on amused. "You don't have to look so worried. We're not going anywhere. I want to talk to you about Brokensong's name. It's about time she changed it." Zephyrfang's eyes grew warm, his grin lessening into an encouraging smile that bordered on tender when directed at the pretty tortoiseshell beside him.
He didn't really have to say anything further, did he? They were going to raise a family, and he could think of no greater reason to give her a less derogatory name than this one right here.
"Brokensong," mewed Lionstar, quietly disregarding the fact that Zephyrfang had seen right through him earlier. "Is this what you want? Your name changed? I understand that your mother picked it."
Zephyrfang had never met Brokensong's mother (though he was sure he would have liked her, sad name aside), but that didn't mean his view of her was in any way negative. He had known Thornshadow and he knew their mute daughter; 'Brokensong' had never meant to be seen as wrong or shameful. But it would be difficult to explain that to their kits, though they would love her just the same, if not more, because of her unique name. Zephyrfang's tail tip twitched, prepare to argue until the stars fell if it meant Brokensong could become Silentsong. He was sure Thornshadow wouldn't raise too many objections, if he were here now; so long as it made his daughter happy, and that's all Zephyrfang ever wanted for her as well.

She could see the alarm written over the golden tom's face as TreeClan's lion emerged from his den. She waited patiently as Zephyrfang stepped in to explain the situation, glancing toward the tabby tom at her side. She could still feel her nervous excitement bubbling within her, making it feel as though her stomach were repeatedly performing backflips. She really hoped that Lionstar would come to see this situation in their light, just as she had not long ago. The more she thought about it, the more it made sense, and the more certain she was that she wanted this.
If she had had the capacity to become tongue-tied, the tortoiseshell would have experienced it in that moment. Lionstar had always been one of the few cats to truly speak to her, to have a conversation with her rather than speak in her general vicinity. She liked that about him, and it made her respect him. Hazel-green eyes snapped up to meet the TreeClan leader's amber ones as he inquired as to her motivation behind the sudden name change. She made sure to hold her head up high, to look as confident as she could manage when she locked eyes.
She gave a slight inclination of her head, the smallest nod, before stepping forward to close some of the distance between them. She paused just a moment, giving a makeshift bow to indicate she meant no disrespect, before pressing her shoulder against his so he could feel the purr that rumbled from her throat. She was happy, she was certain. This was what she wanted Lionstar to understand. She couldn't tell him just how certain she was, so she hoped that she could make him feel it. She remained there for a brief moment, before stepping back to give him his space again.
She took a seat next to Zephyrfang then, her plume-like tail wrapping around her paws as she met Lionstar's gaze once more. This time when she nodded her head, the motion was much more noticeable, and depicted her enthusiasm. She reinforced her feelings toward the name change with a smile, before glancing over at Zephyrfang. She knew that if Lionstar remained with any doubts, the brown tabby she loved would be able to convince him it was what she wanted, and that it was for the best. Despite her certainty, she couldn't help but feel nervous.
What if Lionstar refuses to make the change? FawnI'm so sorry this is so bad

ZEPHYRFANG
33 Moons. Tom. Warrior.
Watching his mate nod with eagerness gave him one of the best feelings in the world. She was so beautiful when she was happy. His Silentsong. Watching Lionstar out of the corners of his amber eyes, Zephyrfang leaned over and nuzzled her throat, not giving a rat's tail about his very public display of affection in front of their leader. He put no restrictions on his feelings, and he wasn't about to start now.
"So? How about it?" He finally asked, impatience getting the better of him. It wasn't demanding so much as it was wild energy, as evident in his quivering tail, excitement blooming in his chest like the first signs of new leaf.
Lionstar looked at him calmly, and it didn't take a deputy to realize that the golden tom was giving this some serious consideration. Zephyrfang would've appreciated it if he had thought it was anything but unnecessary. Brokensong was sure. He was sure. What more did Lionstar need.
"Alright," said Lionstar. Zephyrfang watched him smile kindly to Brokensong. "I'll call the Clan together at sunset."
Yes! "Perfect," purred Zephyrfang. "Her new name should be Silentsong. It fits her so well." He threw another affectionate glance towards his mate, and Lionstar chuckled.
"Silentsong? That's very fitting, like you said. So long as you are completely happy with this decision, Brokensong, I will go through with the ceremony."
That was the good thing about these Clans; they had a lot of nonsense rules that to this day, he didn't fully understand but abide by for the sake of his mate, but at least they had a ceremony for damn near everything. Giving a beautiful cat a beautiful new name so happened to be one of them. --- Word Count: 280 Words Tags: BlooRey DVD Notes: Terribly bad response, sorry Bloo!

[smear:000000]Broken[/smear:ff6633][smear:ff6633]song[/smear:ffffff] ~~~~~~~~~
Brokensong returned Zephyrfang's nuzzle, her heart hammering excitedly in her chest. She somehow knew that this nervous excitement wouldn't leave her alone, not until the name change was official. It manifested itself in the slightest of movements; she way she rocked onto her toes before settling back on the centre of her paws, the tiny flick of her tail tip or the twitch of an ear. So focused was she on the situation, waiting on any sort of answer from Lionstar, that the tortoiseshell she-cat didn't notice she'd begun holding her breath some time in the past few seconds.
And then Lionstar revealed his acceptance. The mute warrioress bounced excitedly on her paws, the breath rushing out of her lungs in a thrilled stream of air. Had she been able to, she likely would have squealed in her excitement. Instead, she pushed her head against Zephyrfang's shoulder, rubbing at him affectionately before bounding forward once more to step closer to the TreeClan leader. TreeClan's lion had turned back to her and asked her one more time if she was certain. She felt... Flattered at his insistence. It made her feel as though he truly had her well being in mind.
Now she just had to make sure he understood that she well and truly appreciated it, and that she was absolutely certain that she wanted this. Silentsong was going to be her new name. Her real name, and not just a name that Zephyrfang called her. Brokensong looked up at the golden lion, her face lit up by a smile. In a gesture similar to the one she'd just done to her mate, the tortoiseshell pushed her head against Lionstar's chest, before pressing her the rest of her body against him so he could feel her purr.
Once satisfied that he'd have picked up on it, she stepped back and gave a firm nod of her head, falling back in line with Zephyrfang and leaning rather dreamily against him. She looked up at the brown tabby then, rubbing noses with him before bouncing slightly on her paws once more. This was it. This is really happening. I love you mom, dad. I love you, Zephyrfang.

ZEPHYRFANG
33 Moons. Tom. Warrior.
Just as promised, Lionstar called the Clan to the Ancient Stump at sunset, and Zephyrfang was one of the first cats to congregate before their leader, his eyes burning with excitement. He and Feathercloud had spent the better part of the evening fastidiously grooming Brokensong for her big ceremony, and Zephyrfang's thoughts had been joyful, unbroken by any doubts or worries, a pride swelling in his heart with the knowledge that the Clan would finally see her as he saw her.
As a uniquely beautiful, kindhearted creature who would have a name that honored her, not placed her unintentionally in a cage of rumors and misjudgments. Zephyrfang pressed briefly against the stunning tortoiseshell, sensing Feathercloud taking up a seat on the Brokensong's other side. "You'll do great." He mewed, his voice warm as honey and supportive, with that usual playful lilt she heard so often from him. "I'm almost upset, now I have to come up with a new nickname for you. One that's all mine to say."
He wasn't really upset. How could he be? Flashing her an affectionate smile, Zephyrfang was made to tear his eyes away from his mate at Lionstar's strong, clear call.
"Cats of TreeClan, for a long time you have known of one of our quietest members by her current name, Brokensong."
Zephyrfang purred, watching as dozens of eyes turned towards them, many gazing with wonderment upon what Brokensong could possibly have to do with this meeting. Just watch, you'll see. The tawny tabby warrior raised his head, proud as a member of TigerClan.
Lionstar continued. "I have recently had it pointed out to me that her name no longer reflects who she is." The crowd could see the hint of a smile, and then it grew as his gaze settled briefly on Brokensong's. "It's time that she was given a new one."
Before the sudden surge of surprised whispers could overpower the camp, Lionstar's voice rang out yet again, recapturing the respectful silence with the certainty of his words.
"Spirits of StarClan, you know every cat by name. I ask you now to take away the name from the cat you see before you, for it no longer stands for what she is. Her muteness does not define her as somehow less than her Clanmates. By my authority as Clan leader, and with the approval of our warrior ancestors, I give this cat a new name. From this moment on she will be known as Silentsong, because we do not see her as a broken songbird, but a silent, gentlehearted warrior."
He felt a sudden surge of appreciation for Lionstar, with words like that still echoing around the campsite. Not bad, purred Zephyrfang, not bad at all. He hadn't much cared for the Clan's rules and regulations, and for the golden figurehead who seemed to be in charge of enforcing them, but this time... He understood why he was so well respected. This Clan was not just a group of cats milling about, banding together for survival. This was a family. A huge, chaotic mess of a family.
But they cared for each other. And as the warriors of TreeClan chanted Silentsong's new name, he looked to her with an emotion he was unable to put into words, proudly calling her name the loudest of any cat. "Silentsong! Silentsong! Silentsong!"
She wasn't just his Silentsong, now. She wasn't only his quiet little flower. She was TreeClan's. And he was okay with sharing, even if they did have her first. --- Word Count: 583 Words Tags: BlooRey DVD
