Sunstride The Brightest Flame What if all you understand Could fit into the center of our hand? Then you found it wasn't you Who held the sum of everything you knew
The sun was still rising to start a new day as the pale colored sky above head was just starting to turn blue instead of holding hues of pink and purple. Several white clouds hung in the sky lazily as prey skittered around the ground away from the tom who slowly moved through territories towards his destination on the other side of Starclan's Claws.
Tail dragged behind the handsome golden and white tomcat, who's Treeclan's scent stuck out against the sharper scent of Rainclan as he paws came to a stop just on the border line. With drooping shoulders, the young tom sat down, letting his tail curl around his paws as he waited for a patrol to pass by.
He obviously would have wished it to be Rippletail, seeing her beautiful face would have made this transition a bit easier on his heart, but he knew she would be stuck inside Rainclan, making her new nest in the Nursery as comfortable as possible as she planned on staying there for the next couple of moons, while her - their kits, grew inside her.
His normally bright green orbs were dull at the moment, as everything ran through his mind. He had made his decision the night Rippletail had told him she was expecting his kits. At the same moment, his world crumbled around him as his heart exploded with joy. It was a strange, painful and excited feeling all at once, leaving him very confused.
He, of course, knew what he had to do, though he didn't tell Rippletail that he was going to move to Rainclan for her. Hell, Sunstride would move the mountains for her if he could. He wasn't about to ask her to leave Rainclan to join him in Treeclan, he just wasn't built that way. No, he would move for her. He would force himself to learn to fish, to swim even, if that was what it took to join Rainclan.
He had walked into Lionstar's den earlier that morning, and told his leader, his role-model, his father figure, what he was going to do. He apologized profusely for breaking the Warrior Code, but he wouldn't say he was sorry for taking Rippletail for a mate, or for fathering her kits. He was a tom of toms, a real gentle-tom, as he was raised in such a way.
He told Lionstar that is broke his heart to leave the clan he loved and would be forever grateful towards, but he could never force Rippletail to raise their kits on her own. And he would never forgive himself if he were never there for them either. With a heavy heart he had departed from Lionstar's den, and after saying goodbye to Moonshimmer, and to Gentlebreeze and receiving a cold look from his brother, Adderstrike, Sunstride departed from Treeclan's camp forever.
So here he stood, head bowed and shoulders hunched as he waited. Waiting to hopefully start his new life with Rippletail in Rainclan. If Razorstar didn't accept him, he wasn't sure what he would do. He didn't know if he could go back to Treeclan, if Lionstar would even accept him back, and if he did, would Adderstrike even accept him back? He knew he wouldn't be able to make it on his own as a loner.
There was no going back from his decisions. He was going to be Rippletail's mate and a father to their beautiful kits.

R A Z O R S T A R - - - - - - Perhaps it was too bold for the leader and deputy to be away from camp together so frequently, but Razorstar had faith in the capabilities of all of the RainClan cats, even in the absence of authority. Besides, he rather enjoyed Timberwing’s company, and found that her peaceful nature kept him calm in the face of potential conflict with either of their neighbours - a situation that, otherwise, he tended to have a negative, aggressive reaction towards. This patrol wasn’t much different from the usual, the borders still, little conversation taking place on the end of either cat, trudging onward with alert senses and the occasional exchanging of eye contact.
It was then that the scent of TreeClan hovered in the air, the scent hitting the roof of the leader’s mouth unexpectedly, for it was not everyday that he caught traces of anything other than NightClan or StoneClan - it was an admittedly nice change, but he was quick to refocus his attention, moving towards the scent to uncover the purpose of a TreeClan cat so near their borders.
Razorstar parted through the thick underbrush, black tail curving into a firm lash as his sights landed upon the TreeClanner who he could not say he knew the name of. He paused at the edge of the RainClan border, barely a mouselength away from the burdensome warrior (due to his unpleasant feelings towards NightClan and StoneClan, he couldn’t say he was overjoyed by the prospect of forming a dislike for a third Clan). He looked over his shoulder, waiting for Timberwing to arrive at his side, wanting her to be as involved in whatever this exchange would bring as he was going to be. This could be a message from TreeClan, though whatever news they could possibly have to deliver to RainClan was entirely lost upon him. He was willing to give the tom a chance, the recent arrival of his kits having left him in a far better mood than usual, but until he knew what he wanted, he would remain wary of him. “What brings you so far from TreeClan?” His gray-green eyes flared with momentary bellicosity, almost daring the stranger to bring bad news with him. The safety of his three beautiful kittens was already being compromised due to RainClan’s conflict with NightClan, and his personal hatred of StoneClan, and he would not take kindly to more enemies.

Sunstride
The Brightest Flame What if all you understand Could fit into the center of our hand? Then you found it wasn't you Who held the sum of everything you knew
Timberwing
The Fox of Rainclan
Oh, mirror in the sky, what is love? Can the child within my heart rise above? Can I sail through the changing ocean tides? Can I handle the seasons of my life?
The fox colored deputy of Rainclan followed her leader on his way towards the border that lack contact with another clan. Though they had patrols out on Stoneclan and Nightclan's borders, Razorstar had though it simple to check the border that was left unchallenged and lay towards Starclan's Claws.
She too had caught the unusual scent of Treeclan as it wafted across the border and so she let her leader surge forwards before she followed more slowly behind him. Her fox colored pelt sticking out among the green ferns of Rainclan as she pushed her way from the undergrowth, or what little of it there was, to come and stand next to Razorstar as he addressed the young Treeclan tom.
Her green orbs narrowed slightly, catching the faintest familiarity of the scent that drifted off the young tom, almost as if she had scented it in Rainclan, which would have been impossible for it to happen, and yet, she wondered where she would have scented it otherwise.
Odd.
The golden and white warrior looked up as Razorstar and his deputy approached. He couldn't help but feel slightly better about talking to two cats who weren't full Rainclan by blood about the decision he had made when it came to Rippletail and his future with her in the clan that dwelt by the river.
An ear twitch gave away how nervous, this normally level headed and calm tomcat, was. He took a deep breath before looking at Timberwing then to Razorstar, nodding his head respectfully as he had always done when it came to a cat in a higher position than him. He wasn't about to forget his manners.
"Razorstar." He started by addressing the leader in-front of him, standing but keeping to the side that didn't belong to Rainclan. "I'm Sunstride... and I wish to join Rainclan on behalf of Rippletail..." He didn't exactly get to finish his sentence before Timberwing spoke, stopping him from saying anymore on the subject.
"You're the father of her kits, aren't you." Timberwing asked, voice cracking with age as she watched Sunstride though unreadable green eyes. She wasn't judging the tom based on him being from another clan, nor on the fact that he was to father a Rainclan's kits. But more so on the fact that he had come here to beg to stay with the she-cat he had impregnated.
For any cat to do that was brave, stupid, but brave. She had seen Falconleap, may she rest in Starclan, do that for Vultureback. She had given up her life in Stoneclan and her deputy-ship to be with Vultureback and their kits. She had seen several she-cats do such things, but it was strange for a tom to do that.
Not that she was saying toms were selfish, she was sure Razorstar would do anything to be with Roselight, but the pairing of Treeclan and Rainclan was far different, as their borders didn't even touch each other. This, Sunstride, was willing to give up everything to move across Starclan's Claws to be with Rippletail. That was some love.
The golden and white warrior felt his pelt burn as he met Timberwing's gaze and nodded, waiting for Razorstar to speak, or to tear him to shreads, either way. But he wanted to get something out before the leader decided to kill him, or worse, send him away without so much as even thinking over his question.
"I know... We broke the warrior code." He started, "But I fell in love with Rippletail and I can't bring myself to ask her to move to Treeclan with me, not when she loves the river, and the fish, and her friends..."
He took a deep breath and continued, "But I'm willing to move here for her. I'm willing to learn to fish, to-to swim, all to be here for her and to help her raise our kits. I can't make her do that on her own. It just wouldn't be right." He let his emotion filled green orbs stare into those of Razorstar, waiting for an anwser that would either make him, or break him.
Well, I've been afraid of changing 'cause I built my life around you But time makes you bolder Children get older I'm getting older, too

R A Z O R S T A R - - - - - - His facial expression didn’t betray the way he was feeling beneath a calm, collected exterior, Rippletail’s pregnancy in itself unexpected. He was happy for the she-cat he had grown closer with over the moons. She was going to have kittens of her own; she would get to experience the kind of happiness that he felt, and that Roselight felt, but without the father in the picture because of their separate loyalties. That was, until that very father showed up, requesting a position in RainClan so that he could be at her side. He wondered briefly as to whether or not Rippletail was aware of this, the idea of her having kept something so significant from him causing a flare of anger to travel up his spine, but that could be handled later. Looking to his fox-like deputy, he searched her expression for a sign as to how she felt about this tom wishing to switch his allegiance. Both of them could, in a sense, relate to Sunstride’s current position, since neither of them were RainClan by blood.
But that was what made it difficult for Razorstar to accept him.
The Clan had yet to accept their hierarchy, the purity that neither of them possessed, and it wouldn’t make his Clanmates any quicker to trust him, or to like him, if he made room in the warriors’ den for another cat that wasn’t born in RainClan. The situation that Rippletail and Sunstride had gotten themselves into was simply not his problem. They had broken the code, and now not only would they suffer the consequences, but so would their kittens when they had to grow up without their father, getting suspicious glares from their Clanmates because they were born of a treacherous relationship that was never to have been in the first place - unless, of course, Razorstar welcomed him into RainClan. He could do that, and a part of him wanted to for Rippletail’s sake, for the sake of those kittens, but there was no chance of letting himself be so terribly lenient. RainClan didn’t need more outsiders, despite how much he hated to admit it since the blood of an outsider coursed through his own veins. Sunstride was being noble, sacrificial even, putting the wants of the she-cat he loved before his own, but making sacrifices wasn’t always worth it.
“Your welcome wouldn’t be kind, Sunstride. Many don’t approve of outsiders. Fishing and swimming are valuable skills, but you can lead a good life here without them. More importantly than that is learning a new loyalty, because you will be serving a Clan that will not immediately take to you. If you were to cross into RainClan, then I wouldn’t want to hear a word of the life in TreeClan you’re leaving behind.” He was being harsh, but for reasons he deemed necessary. If Sunstride knew of Razorstar’s background, and of Timberwing’s background, then perhaps he would catch what he had meant by bringing up the hardships that outsiders faced. He knew from personal experience that it wasn’t an easy endeavour. He had Rippletail on his side, but nobody else would be expected to welcome him, to be kind to him, until he proved that he was trustworthy. “With that said, I’m willing to take my chances with you, because even though it goes against my better judgement, Rippletail is a friend of mine. Expect that I will be watching you closely though, Sunstride. It will take some time before you’re trusted.”
He waited a few moments, then, seeing if Sunstride would take his words for the warning they were and take back his request to join. It would be difficult for him to adjust to RainClan, especially since he was already in his prime, and would be expected to adapt to an entirely new environment and way of functioning. “Timberwing, if you have anything to add, or have any concerns, I would like to hear them before Sunstride is permitted to accompany us to our camp.” His deputy’s opinion was held in high regard, and he wouldn’t dare finalize such an important decision without her input.

Though she felt sympathy build in her chest, she kept her green orbs void of any emotion as she watched the golden and white tom struggle with his decision on the border line of Rainclan. She was aware, through whispers and rumors, of his older sister's failing health and figured that was one of the biggest things this tom must have been struggling with.
The love for a sibling against the love for a mate.
The deputy of fox colors couldn't help but feel respect for the young tom who was about to give up everything so that his Rainclan mate didn't have to endure her pregnacy or kitting or raising of the kits on her own. Not many cross-clan romances ended with the tom leaving everything behind for the she-cat. It was rather noble of him to do so, and Timberwing was sure that Razorfang, despite how he felt about the cross-clan booboo, felt the same respect.
Timberwing's attention turned to Razorstar when her leader called upon her advice in such a situation. "True, most of Rainclan will not except you right away, if ever." She concluded with Razorstar, as both he and herself knew the troubles of having clanmates that would never fully accept one who did not share their 'pure, river running, Rainclan blood'.
"However, as Razorstar also stated, you can make a good life for yourself here, and it sounds as though you have already made up your mind on the matter and are very willing to fit into this clan."
The former Treeclanner had been holding his breathe as Razorstar spoke, but he felt it all come out in a tumble as he nodded vigorusly towards both the other cats in-front of him. He wasn't sure what to say, or what to do, but he felt like what he was about to say was something correct.
At least he hoped it was the correct thing to say.
"I understand." He nodded his head, he didn't intend on speaking of his life in Treeclan, it was already hard enough to leave with Gentlebreeze in the current position she was in. The look on both Adderstrike and Lionstar's face. He knew they felt betrayed, and he didn't want to see that look in their eyes and didn't intend to dwell on it too much.
"I am well aware that I will be treated... differently for a while, and that no-one will trust me. I will take full punishment of any kind you wish to give Rippletail, so that she may not be in trouble, and then some for myself, if you wish it."
He was aware he was sticking his neck out on the chopping block as he spoke, but the words just seemed to come out. It wasn't like he could appologize for him or Rippletail falling in love, or creating a new generation of kits that would live and grow in Rainclan. What had happened, had happened, and Sunstride wanted to live with that, as happily as he could in his new clan.
It was Timberwing's turn to speak again, her eyes showing no sign towards Sunstride, but she did find his ramblings amusing as he was trying his best to please both her and Razorstar. It would take a while yet for her leader to warm up to the former Treeclanner, her not as long.
"For now, you will stay in the Apprentice den." Timberwing flicked her bushy, feathered tail, the white tip bright in the early morning light. "You will act as apprentice of Rainclan, completing the duties fit for an apprentice. Only when Razorstar or I decide you have done enough will we discuss moving you to the Warrior's Den."
A harsh punishment, but at least Sunstride would still hold his warrior name and title, but he would be treated as an Apprentice would for his first couple of moons here amongst Rainclan. Timberwing believed that was fair enough punishment, it would also give him time to learn how a warrior of Rainclan survived differently than that of Treeclan.
"Perhaps we should assign a warrior to him as well. Blizzardclaw?" Timberwing turned her attention over to Razorstar.
Well, I've been afraid of changing 'cause I built my life around you But time makes you bolder Children get older I'm getting older, too

R A Z O R S T A R - - - - - - Where Timberwing seemed amused by the tom’s ramblings, and by his attempts to get anything other than the same hostile grimace from Razorstar, he was not so easily won over. He could claim that he understood, and Razorstar would find it within himself to take his word, but saying such a thing was vastly different from genuinely understanding, and he wasn’t positive that Sunstride would excel on RainClan territory the same way he probably planned to. It was good to hear that he was willing to try and forget his life in TreeClan, leaving it behind so that he might prove himself more loyal to RainClan than Razorstar currently suspected he’d be, but he sincerely hoped that Sunstride would be able to stay true to that, because it would not make for a . . . pleasant conversation if they had to revisit this topic on a later date.
Perhaps he wanted to take Rippletail’s blame as well, but it would be difficult for him to acknowledge her with the same casual niceness, the same smile so rarely seen upon his face, if Sunstride proved disloyal and turned his back on RainClan after Timberwing and him had been gracious enough to grant him access to one of their beds - even if, for the time being, it would be in the apprentices’ den. There was pressure on him to gain the trust of the RainClan cats he would come to live alongside, but there was no denying that Rippletail’s reputation as a trustworthy member of their Clan was also at stake should he slip up.
The sound of Blizzardclaw’s name dragged the RainClan leader out of his numerous thoughts, meeting Timberwing’s expectant eyes after a moment of silence, gesturing with a slight tip of his head that he concurred. “Proposition him upon our return to camp.” Blizzardclaw and Razorstar had only just began to redevelop what had once been a vicious relationship; assigning this kind of task to him would be a good way to test out how he took to being given orders, and whether or not he respected his leadership enough to take the job seriously. Returning his attention to Sunstride, and sparing a few seconds to look him over one last time, Razorstar stood and prepared to lead him back into the heart of RainClan’s camp where he could begin his new life. “Welcome to RainClan, Sunstride.” He paid close attention to the ex-TreeClan cat’s paws, wanting to witness his first permitted steps on RainClan territory. This wasn’t a decision that he was proud of making, but having just gotten to experience the birth of his own kittens, he knew how important it would be for him to experience it as well - that much he could understand. If he was incapable of being a part of RainClan, then they would discuss everything again, but until then, he was anxious to see how he fared.

The fox colored she-cat nodded, her graying paws turned from the border as she flicked an ear, tuft of fur wavering. She intended to not only proposition Blizzardclaw, a senior warrior of the clan, but also Russethawk. She figured the young warrior, around Sunstride's age, could help the golden warrior formerly of Treeclan fit in with Rainclan.
The old deputy knew that most cats would be hostile towards Sunstride for both his switch of clans, lack of loyalty to his birth-clan, and that he would be having half-clan kits with a Rainclanner. Despite how Timberwing or even Razorstar felt, most of Rainclan had an issue with purity, they believed their clan should be pure of blood, even though Rainclan, throughout it's whole history, never once held complete pure blood.
None of the clans did.
Her thick, bushy tail flickered as she waved Sunstride to cross over the border, wondering what his reaction would be like when he moved from Forests to Reeds. It wasn't easy for her to adapt from swamps to reeds, and she still had a hard time with the water. But he didn't carry her bulk or fur, so perhaps he could become a good Rainclan Cat.
It was hard, but the golden tom kept from looking over his shoulder and back at the clan he was now leaving. Treeclan was no longer his clan, and though he would always love his siblings and leader and former clan-mates, he needed his heart to belong to Rainclan and Rippletail now.
It was for the best, and he couldn't help his feelings when it came to being compassionate and honorable towards a she-cat that deserved it. He loved her, he would love their kits, and he would love his new clan with all his heart. He would take the critisim, the harsh words, he would take it all, to make sure Rippletail was happy. To please Razorfang and Timberwing. To be the Rainclan cat he would make himself be.
His paws moved forwards, stepping onto the new territory that would become his in time. Green eyes meeting Razorstar's more grayish one, he gave a nod before following the older cats across the reeds, damp under paws. It would take some time to get used to the water, but Sunstride knew he could do it. He was determined to make it work. He would not let Razorstar down.
"I'm ready." He said.
Well, I've been afraid of changing 'cause I built my life around you But time makes you bolder Children get older I'm getting older, too
