Description: With three short-haired siblings and both parents being short-haired, it came as a bit of a surprise when little Iriskit was born showing a recessive trait, a bit of a throwback to a grandparent with longer fur or even a great grandparent. Irispaw's fur is rather pretty shade of brown, pale along the body and with a white underbelly, chest, a splash of white on her chin, and all four paws being 'mitted'. The brown darkens into an almost chocolatey hue at her more distinctive extremities – her ears, and more noticeably, her tail and the bridge of her equally dark nose.
Irispaw's most distinctive feature – besides being 100% deaf – are her almost teal-hued eyes, the shade a fascinating 'in between' color, and look as though they may stray from the blue side of the spectrum and into a crisp, clear green. It would be more exciting, perhaps, if they stayed that perfect shade of teal, as the color is something she really loves about herself.
Though obviously still a kitten, Irispaw will likely stay rather on the small side, her semi-long hair making up for an otherwise petite body-structure, more suited to fishing and patrolling rather than anything to do with combat.
Description Summary: Pale brown and white deaf she-cat with distinctive teal eyes and semi-long fur.
Personality:
-The World is Quiet Here-
Just because she was born without the ability to hear does not mean her life has to be painted in depressing gray hues and splashes of monochrome. It is completely possible to enjoy life without the use of her ears, and even if it wasn't, it's not as if anyone can tell her that. Irispaw is surprisingly happy, despite viewing her Clan has a great big puzzle that's so tremendously difficult to solve sometimes, able to understand a situation through body-language and social cues, lacking the ability to tell by tone or even the words chosen how a cat is feeling.
It's an enormous challenge, but that challenge goes two ways; just as she has difficulty understanding them, of piercing the veil to see what's on their mind or how they're feeling, Irispaw cannot help but be a puzzle in of herself with no foreseeable solution. It is almost as though she has become a prisoner of no fault of her own, locked away by her disability, unable to connect.
True to the symbolism behind the flower of her name, Irispaw can show at times great courage, not being one to shy away from the more complicated aspects in life – such as making friends or trying to interpret the many strange behaviors of her Clanmates, or even simply learning how to swim – she does exhibit some caution, but not enough to make her shy away from certain things. Perhaps to show others that she can be just as good an apprentice/warrior as they can, Irispaw tends to be the first to try new things, and quick to follow-by-example.
So young and promising, Irispaw has the great fortune of being born into a Clan where she can likely lead a properly functioning life, with the exception of hunting down land prey or possibly participating in most battles. That being said, the one major skill requirement of RainClan warriors is one she's likely to excel in, as this she-cat has, if nothing else, infinite patience coupled with a determination, with something to prove.
History: Iriskit was born the daughter of Hazelcloud and Blacktide, the littermate to Tidekit (whom obviously took the name from their newly deceased father, the tom dying valiantly during the StormClan battle). Being unable to know the names of her family members did not seem to bother Iriskit one bit, though it admittedly took a while for her to realize that it wasn't that she'd been born into a world without sound, it was that she'd been born unable to hear it. Relying heavily on scent and feeling to form a close kinship with Hazelcloud, Tidekit and her older siblings, Iriskit was an affectionate, playful little creature who, apart from messing up the games sometimes and being the easiest to sneak up on during hide-and-go-seek, was otherwise relatively happy, in spite of her disability.
A lack of labels has not stopped Iriskit from identifying Hazelcloud as her mother; there was no way she could mistake anyone else's scent for that warm, motherly milkscent, perhaps the earliest, most relaxing aroma of Iriskit's young life.
In regards to her father's death, Iriskit likely doesn't know she had a father, or even the fact that it takes two cats to make a litter; what she does understand, however, is that her mother seems depressed and angry, the kitten able to pick up on posture and even just the waves of emotion coming off of her mother sometimes. Feeling saddened at times that she is unable to comfort her or ask her what's wrong, Iriskit has always done her best to obey Hazelcloud and pay her extra attention, hoping she might distract her from her sadness.
It has occurred to Iriskit that Hazelcloud might be depressed because of her deafness, and though this was quite a shock to little Iriskit's system, she is trying her hardest to prove to her mother that she can be just like her siblings, just as accomplished. Maybe someday she can be the cat that jumps onto the River Stone that all the other Clan members have to pay attention to? It's doubtful but...it doesn't hurt to have dreams when you're young, no matter how unobtainable.
Other: Irispaw has one major wish: to find out where the cats go once every full moon, as she has become fascinated with the strange, sudden disappearances of her Clanmates, and how they always return home so late at night and smelling of such unusual things. She has drawn a line of distinction between those left behind and those who have the privilege of going, and Irispaw very much wishes she can be one of the chosen few that get to go next time around.
