The large, sandy brown tom's amber eyes blinked open, the smallest shaft of sunlight having found its way into what he was calling his den now. With a slight groan, the StoneClan leader pulled away from the intangible intruder, letting his eyes drift closed once more, when he was finally out of the line of fire for the sun's perfect shot. For a moment, he simply lay there, listening to the sound of his own breathing. He could hear it echo through the little makeshift den, alongside that of Frozenrain's, his mate. Lifting his head, he gaze warmly at her sleeping figure, shifting to give her a gentle lick between the ears, careful not to wake her.
Rising to his paw slowly, abandoning all efforts to sleep, the large tom padded stiffly out into the sunlight. He felt it bathe his pelt, already beginning to warm him, even though the day was only just beginning. It would be hot today, just as it tended to be any day when faced with the unforgiving territory of the mountains. Here, there was very little to protect them from the direct rays of the sun. Not many dared move around during midday, simply because the sun warmed the stones to such a degree that walking on them could burn your paw pads.
Deciding that it would be a smart idea to fetch his apprentice early, and do some training before the heat became unbearable, the StoneClan leader began making his way down the slight cliffside, after having paused to properly give his sleep-stiff muscles a stretch. The dawn was just passing by, so the StoneClan figurehead stopped by the freshkill pile, grabbing a bit to eat. Once he felt satisfied, he continued to where the apprentices had been residing.
Fitting himself in the crammed space was always tricky. It was for this reason he generally tried to avoid it. Ducking his head through the entrance, Hawkstar hissed out his apprentice's name, hoping to wake him, and not the others. "Hawkpaw, it's time to get up. Grab yourself a bite to eat, and then meet me in the centre of camp." His low rumble of a voice drifted passed the sleeping figures of the other apprentices, nearly droned out by the snores of the young, sleeping cats. Once he received some sort of sign that his apprentice had heard him, the large tom backed out.
Turning towards the medicine cat den, Hawkstar made a short stop to speak to Fallenleaf. The main purpose of the visit was to check on her progress. When he arrived, however, the older she-cat was still fast asleep. Not finding it within himself to wake her, he found himself smiling slightly before turning and heading to the spot he had instructed Hawkpaw to meet him. His large paws padded over the hard stone below, his pads trained and strengthened by many moons of walking on ground similar to this one. Once he'd made it to the center of the camp, Hawkstar seated himself, tail wrapped neatly over his paws, awaiting the arrival of Hawkpaw.
