[smear:996600]Hawkstar[/smear:663300] ~~~~~~~~~
The large sandy colored tom had been asleep in his makeshift den, with the early morning sun rising into the sky when a sharp stab of realization had hit him so swiftly, he found himself on his paws, amber eyes wide in alarm. "Oh for the love of StarClan! I've been neglecting Hawkpaw's training!" The tone of his voice was nearly a groan as he seated himself, ears turned back in irritation with himself. Fully realizing that it was still too early to wake the apprentice, the StoneClan leader allowed himself to slide back down into a lying position, putting a heavy paw over his muzzle as he let out another, rather irritate groan. Amber eyes stared out the entrance to his den, watching the sun rise up across the mountain landscape. It seemed to move in slow motion for the sandy tom.
When the sun was at a suitable height for the dawn patrol to begin, the StoneClan leader stepped outside, ensuring that the patrol was full and ready to go. He wasn't sure why he had decided to keep the tradition. Perhaps it was no longer to ensure the borders were marked to warn off the other Clans, but rather to ensure they were safe. This territory was so unknown to them.. There was no telling what dangers might be present. His pale amber eyes watched as the patrol departed, gaze slightly distant as he did so. He considered going to wake Hawkpaw now, but decided that it was still a little too early for that. His tail flicked behind him as he lifted a paw, running it over his ears.
He busied himself with the ever entertaining task of pacing back and forth upon a ledge he had adopted as his own. It allowed him to keep an eye on their makeshift camp. Tail whisking around behind him, Hawkstar continued this until he began to see and hear signs of others rising. Bounding down from his ledge, the heavy, broad shouldered tom padded up towards the area the apprentices slept in. Gently giving his apprentice's smaller form a nudge with his large paw, the StoneClan leader's voice spoke gently. "Come Hawkpaw. Meet me over there when you are ready." His tail flicked towards the area in question as Hawkstar turned and padded away.
He hopped up onto a large rock, not nearly as high as his ledge. It was closer to the rim of the 'camp', however, and the view was rather nice. He gazed out at the landscape, his back turned to the camp and anyone approaching him from within. He trusted his ears to alert him to his apprentice's approach, however, and it was for this reason that one of his ears was swivelled ever-so-slightly backwards, listening and attentive as he waited patiently.
The large tom couldn't figure out what he wanted to do with Hawkpaw today, he simply knew that he would dedicate the whole day to his apprentice, if the younger tom by the same prefix so pleased. He couldn't help but think that that would only begin to make up for the neglect he had been giving his apprentice. He would have much more to do before he would consider them equal. With a slight, regretful sigh, the StoneClan leader thought to himself.
How in the name of StarClan could I have done such a thing...

Struggling with the emotions of joining his mother's clan then being forced out by the dreadful alliance of RainClan and LightingClan, he felt a deep rooted anger toward them both and part of him had grown to hate his brother. However, Hawkpaw did his best to hide his anger and while he had a difficult time he found a silver lining in everything.
Yet the lack of training which resulting in him nearly losing his tail due to a rather crazy LightingClan apprentice, he started to have bitter emotions toward Hawkstar. Ever since he was given to the leader to be trained he admired him but his own leader's fault to give an effort had affected the tom greatly. Feeling even more alienated then before he didn't seek out comfort of cat his age even if he was close to the same age as many of the other apprentices. Hawkpaw had in fact kept himself distance from other cats, brudiing on his own shortcomings and those of other cats within in new clan.
Almost as a gift from StarClan, Hawkpaw's ears were greeted with Hawkstar's voice and while he quickly woke he didn't jump to his paws. Nodding in silent understanding, Hawkpaw wasn't in any rush to meet up with his mentor. "He has kept me waiting for the past four moons, he can wait a few more minutes." He thought to himself rising up to his paws, taking his time to stretch his limps. He had grown quickly in his moon away from his parents, already a taller then an average full blooded RainClan apprentice, Hawkpaw clearly took after his mother with his height. Just light a head length shorter, while his mentor went one direction, Hawkpaw went the opposite, determined to keep him waiting. Effortlessly he jumped over a rock and landed on top, shaking his lush fur and grooming it in rapid strokes, he jumped down on the other side to lap at a pool of water which had collected. The crisp water cooled his tongue and he enjoyed it's feel. Standing up after his drink to ease his dry mouth, he quickly dipped his paw in and used it to wash is face, further waking him from his sleep. Pleased with himself for deliberately wasting time he turned on his heels and headed toward Hawkstar at a brisk trot.
Coming upon Hawkstar in a few well paced strides he jumped up with graceful ease much like his mother and landed behind Hawkstar, tail flicking in silent signal he was ready. The conflicted look his leader carried only pleased the leaf-bare apprentice. "He should feel guilty for neglecting me. My mother would have his hide and all nine lives if she knew of this mistake." While he wasn't one of play the family card, he was half tempted to outright confront his mentor in a whirlwind of spitfire commonly seen within his sibling Crowpaw, but respectfully Hawkpaw held his tongue, literally biting it to keep himself from opening his mouth and giving the leader of piece of his mind. While he had no outright concrete proof that his mother was a better deputy and would have been a better leader, her betrayal to her clan ruined all those prospects, he still felt that Hawkstar ought to be careful of his training and treatment, even if his mother no longer carried any rank or title within StoneClan, Hawkpaw hated feeling neglected, it brought out a bitter part of him.
It was expected of him to speak to Hawkstar but in another show of bitterness toward him he kept his mouth shut even if he was able to say polite words, Hawkpaw just wanted to show how much Hawkstar had not only hurt him by not training, but also hurt the young kit's pride, who simply was all alone and in a sense defenseless.

The sand brown tom sat upon the ridge, amber eyes fixed upon the landscape before him. To some, it would look as though he were simply staring out blankly. To those who knew him well, however... They would know that he was constantly aware of his surroundings. There was always something processing in the large tom's mind. It was perhaps this which was his greatest weakness.
He had been so concerned about the fate of StoneClan since they'd been chased out... Everything he had, everything he was had been totally focused on ensuring StoneClan's survival. During the first few days, the large sand brown tom had run himself ragged. It wasn't until his mate had asked him to take some time for himself, for his own safety that Hawkstar had realized the strain he had been putting on himself.
And now, as it turned out, the StoneClan leader had been too focused upon the bigger picture, that he'd been ignoring some of the smaller details. Like Hawkpaw's training. With a heavy sigh, the tom closed his eyes, listening to the surroundings instead of seeing it. He wasn't sure how long he sat there, but he knew it was a decent amount of time. Amber eyes blinked open, narrowing slightly. Hawkpaw sure is taking his time... His tail tip twitched, partly in annoyance, but that irritation soon fizzled out. Sure, the smaller tom was probably doing this on purpose, making him wait. But the StoneClan leader couldn't really blame him. Not after what had happened.
Finally the sound of approaching paw steps caught the leader's attention. His ear was turned in the direction from which the approaching cat was moving. And then, movement beside him as Hawkpaw took a seat beside him. Hawkstar waited a moment, expecting some sort of greeting, and when none came, he had to stop himself from shaking his head. He didn't glance at his apprentice, instead continuing to stare out at the cliffs that surrounded them. After a moment of silence, the large tom finally spoke.
"Tell me what you see, Hawkpaw."

Hawkpaw Been dreaming of this since a child I’m on top of the world.
He start there a moment, part of him wanted to wash away the bitterness in his heart with a flick of his tail and greet his mentor like he should, but the son of Vultureback and Falconleap couldn't do such a thing. Instead his eyes dropped down to stare at his paws, the small impressions they made in the dirt, clearly smaller than Hawkstar. Leaf colored eyes went from his brown paws up toward the shoulder of Hawkstar then out to the expanse of the mountain that they now called home.
His mentor asked him a question, instead of shooting off some random answer Hawkpaw thought for a moment about a creative away to answer him, something that proved he wasn't stupid. He rose up to his paws, taking in every detail of the area, the camp below and the mountain ahead.
"I see our refugee, the place we came to for safety. Warriors work hard to patrol and keep things safe for us. Apprentices are hunting or training going strong. I see what would be our life if we were back in StoneClan, the place I first came to you and asked if I could join. Beyond that I see the mountain, huge and powerful, a big guardian." Hawkpaw paused, looking around and giving his mentor a moment's glance.
"I see a home that isn't ours. We don't belong here Hawkstar, we belong in StoneClan." He spoke honestly, but without meeting his mentor's gaze, his eyes straight forward.
I coulda gave up then but Then again I couldn’t have ’cause I’ve traveled all this way for something

Hawkstar had to admit that he was impressed with the response his apprentice gave. He spared a glanced towards the younger tom, considering him for a moment before rising to his paws. The huge tom gave a slow flick of his tail, beckoning his apprentice to follow. Instead of heading out from their makeshift camp, as it might be expected of him, Hawkstar turned and padded back into the heart of camp. As he moved, he took a deep breath, feeling this stomach expanding, feeling the slight tug on his underbelly, a constant reminded of the fate he had almost suffered moons back when faced with a fox.
Large paws were placed one after the other as the tom padded forward, his amber gaze sweeping over the familiar faces of StoneClan's members. The sun was still on its rising path, having not reached its peak yet. It wouldn't reach said peak for a while, meaning that there were many cats mulling about, preparing to go on patrols, or just speaking to one another. It was one of the most active times for the healing Clan, just as the evening was. He watched in silence as cats exited the warriors den, the occasional warrior peeking into the apprentice's den to call out their own apprentices. For a fleeting moment, everything seemed... Normal.
It was as he was finishing his sweep, eyes flicking over the make shift medicine cat den that Hawkstar noticed movement. As realization set in, Hawkstar stopped moving forward, using his tail to motion all around him, inviting Hawkpaw to take a look around. All the while, he kept his gaze focused on the figure of three emerging cats. The first, standing in the middle, he recognized instantly. The older she-cat was limping heavily, the effort it was taking her to move clear. But seeing her on her paws and walking... It sent a flurry of emotion through him. It seemed like just the other day that he'd glimpsed her plummeting out of view, swallowed up as the terrain beneath her gave away, swallowing her whole. By some StarClan given miracle, she'd survived the fall, allowing him and three other StoneClan toms to find her. She'd been in terrible condition, her pale coat plastered to her frame, matted with her blood. But she'd been alive. That was what had been important.
He remembered when he'd been told the extent of her injuries. Other than the cuts and gashes on her skin, she'd dislocated her shoulder and damaged some of her ribs. He suppressed a shiver, remembering her shrieks as the shoulder had been reset. She'd been conscious for that part, something he wished she hadn't felt. Still, he knew that it had been for the best. Her healing had been slow. The gashes on her skin had begun disappearing, leaving only flecks of scars on the skin beneath her fur. However, he knew that she still had troubles sleeping, unable to curl her body around, or to lie flat on her right side. Her left foreleg was still weak, but it seemed to be healing well, after having been reset and immobilized for an extended period of time. There had been fear that she'd broken a bone in her lower leg.
As he watched Fallenleaf limp out of the exit to the medicine cat's den, she looked stiff, but, once again, she was moving. His appreciative glance moved first to her left side where he recognized the brown-flecked figure of Hailstrike. The younger she-cat was supporting Fallenleaf's weight, meaning that there was less strain on her injured leg. As he looked to Fallenleaf's right, he spotted the gray-blue form of Riversong, a she-cat who was only a few months younger than himself. She was also pressed to the older she-cat's side, aiding with weight whenever needed. He couldn't hear the words exchanged between them, but he was certain he saw Riversong's lips move, initiating a response from Fallenleaf.
"What I see... What I see is a formidable group of cats who have been through the darkest of times. We've been forced from our home, into a territory not our own, completely alien to us. But even in the face of darkness, we have stood together. I see the older helping the younger, and the younger helping the older. I see a Clan who won't surrender the war, no matter what. StoneClan may have lost the battle for their territory, but we have not given up on the war. The time will come when it is time to fight back, to reclaim what is ours, and until that time comes... We will continue to stand together. You've told me that we don't belong here. That might be true, but there is one thing I don't agree with. You said that we belong in StoneClan. StoneClan is not a place. No matter where we are... We will always be StoneClan. As long as we stand together, there is no one who can take that from us. We are SoneClan."
Casting one last glance towards the three struggling she-cats, Hawkstar beckoned Hawkpaw to follow him again, padding out of camp and into a territory more suited for hunting. Slowing to a stop, Hawkstar gazed at the territory, ears attentive, jaws parted to take in the surrounded scents. When he spoke, his voice was low, a whisper. "I also see prey that requires hunting. From what I can tell, there are two rabbits and a mouse in the nearby area. Track and kill one of them. For StoneClan." Sitting back on his haunches, the StoneClan leader prepared to watch and assess his apprentice's skill set, to see if he'd retained anything from some of the earlier training sessions, from before they'd been chased out.

Hawkpaw Been dreaming of this since a child I’m on top of the world.
Guilt That was the strongest emotion he felt, the sense of knowing that he was bring a brat, a rude spoiled brat. He was holding his own well being above the Clan's strike number one against being a better StoneClan cat, surely three would be the limit before he was kicked out of StoneClan for good, not that'd he'd put up much of a fight, his attitude wasn't being very helpful or kind. If mother saw me she'd give Hawkstar permission to eat my ears." He thought to himself as he watched Fallenleaf with the help of two warriors exit the medicine cat's den. Hawkpaw didn't know her at all, in fact at that moment he realized just how anti-social he had been, he knew everyone's name but that was about it. He didn't even take the time to know his uncle, not that his kin sough him out for any reason. Flicking his tabby tail back and forth, Hawkpaw allowed the guilt turn into a type of energy, a vow spoken to himself to be better, prove he deserved to live in StoneClan.
He heard Hawkstar's long speech about who they were and every word hit him heavy in his heart, he didn't have the courage to look at his mentor in the face but nodded in understanding when it seemed right. The young tom was struggling with his feeling of being neglected on top of learning just how little he knew about life. It was an honor to be trained by a leader, they lived every day for their Clan, they died nine times for their Clan, Hawkpaw had one life to live and he had spent part of it in the wrong clan and the other part being a sour tom because Hawkstar was busy, of course he would be busy, Hawkstar was the freaking leader of StoneClan and rightfully lead them through a war. Granted Hawkpaw was almost a victim of that war, but that wasn't truly just reason to act like he had been and Hawkpaw was learned that now quickly. Perhaps Hawkstar was showing him something with Fallenleaf, but he was stunned into silence and only shown signs of understand as he followed Hawkstar out of camp.
Instructions were given and easy to follow, Hawkpaw knew how to hunt he had a few cats teach him once they moved to the mountains. It wasn't easy and took a lot of practice but he was decent, he even tried a couple of times to leap onto birds as they passed by tree limbs, that normally ending with him landing hard on his paws and cursing his stupidity only to try it again, but before he could start his hunting he had something important to say.
"I'm sorry Hawkstar, truly I am. I acted like I deserved to be treated like something special when I'm not. I had his stupid dream that coming to StoneClan with my mother's history I would be treated better but I realized that wouldn't be true. My mother left StoneClan and ruined her reputation. By joining StoneClan, I was the object of blame by so many. I was really mad with you before because I wasn't being trained, but I shouldn't be. I should be happy and humbled to have you train me. I could have just past me on to some other warrior that wouldn't have given a mouse's tail if I lived or died. For that I thank you so much Hawkstar. Please forgive me." Hawkpaw's words were heavy with emotion, but he didn't want any more bad words between them, Hawkstar was someone to admire and with his harsh reality check, Hawkpaw was even more determined to learn all that he could from him and better himself in the process, all for StoneClan.

The sandy brown tom was a little surprised that his apprentice didn't immediately launch into the hunting task Hawkstar had assigned. Still, the StoneClan leader was patient, turning an attentive gaze upon his apprentice. When Hawkpaw began, Hawkstar blinked curiously, keeping silent to allow the younger tom the opportunity to speak. His tail was wrapped comfortably around his large paws, head turned to the side to watch Hawkpaw. And all the while his amber eyes shone with a sort of.. Understanding. He waited until he felt as though his apprentice were finished, realizing now that perhaps all Hawkpaw needed in that moment was someone to speak to. His whole family was in another Clan. And by the looks of it... Hawkpaw didn't have all too many friends.
Straightening slightly, gathering his thoughts, Hawkstar prepared a response for the younger tom. There was a softness to his gaze, almost as though he were gazing down upon his very own son. "I don't see a reason for you to be apologizing to me, Hawkpaw, but if it will ease some strain upon you, I accept your apology. Your mother... She was great warrior, and StoneClan was lucky to have her. She chose to leave us and to follow her heart. Just as you chose to follow your heart to return to us. Perhaps I do not agree with what your mother did, but I understand, and I respect her decision. It is always important to ensure you are happy. If her happiness lay in the paws of a tom from another Clan... Nothing can change that. I cannot speak for the others in StoneClan, but I feel as though I should let you know that I do not judge you on the actions your mother took. You are not her. You are Hawkpaw of StoneClan, just the same as I am Hawkstar of StoneClan. And for those who doubt you... All you have to do is show them that you belong here, show them that StoneClan is your home as much as it is theirs. It will not be easy to earn the trust of everyone within the Clan. It will be a long journey, but in the end it will be worth it. Keep fighting Hawkpaw. You have strength within you. I believe that you can do anything, as long as you set your mind to it."
As he had begun speaking, the sand brown tom had stood up from his position, moving a few steps closer to his apprentice. His tail flicked to and fro slightly, before moving to rest gently upon Hawkpaw's shoulders. The leader wasn't exactly sure how his apprentice would react to his gestures, but in that moment, Hawkstar promised himself that he would do everything in his power to make time for Hawkpaw everyday. For now, Hawkstar was perhaps the only one Hawkpaw ever really spoke to. He promised himself that he would be there for his young apprentice, until the day he was no longer needed.

Hawkpaw Been dreaming of this since a child I’m on top of the world.
The brown tabby had taken every word spoken to him to heart, nodding where he should and understanding the point that Hawkstar was trying to make. He didn't choose his parents but he did choose his path. Taking the comfort in Hawkstar's words, the growing apprentice relaxed enough to no longer have his worries about being accepted in the fore front of his mind.
Hawkstar's gesture was welcomed and Hawkpaw felt a surge of welcoming within him, he had the acceptance of the leader, everyone else would follow sooner or later. With this new found faith within himself Hawkpaw was more content with his choice and even more determined to show that he was worthy to be called StoneClan.
A few step back and close toward the grasses he was intended on hunting in, his nose keen to the scent of rabbit and mouse, he focused on the rabbit, a larger kill. Carefully he sunk into a lower crouch, carrying his weight evenly over his paws, he was fluid in his hunting abilities and as he glided through the grass, it was effortless, minus the little mistakes of over striding himself as he tracked the rabbit. A benefit of hunting within the tall grasses was that prey animals often moved the grass back and forth which gave off their location. It was not to far away and with a clever idea in his head, Hawkpaw made a bee line for a small rock, just beside the location of his prey. The rock wasn't very large and as Hawkpaw carried himself up it's smooth face, he was above the rabbit, perhaps half a tail length he'd be right on top of the dust colored animal.
Lowering himself to the ground, claws extended to scrap against the stone, he without warning jumped down with a hard thump to land on the rabbit, it was dead with a single bite and with pride warming his pelt, Hawkpaw carried the well grown rabbit back to Hawkstar and presented it to his mentor. "For StoneClan.

When his apprentice stepped away from him, senses trained upon the prey running about the area, Hawkstar straightened, settling into a comfortable position where he could watch the tom, to judge his progress. The StoneClan leader found himself pleasantly surprised as the smaller tom began stalking forward, movements fluid and easy. The rabbit was hidden from Hawkstar's view in a clump of tall grass, and he assumed the same was true for Hawkpaw. However, the StoneClan figurehead knew that sight was not necessary to complete a hunt. And the idea seemed to reside within his apprentice as well.
Noting in his head that Hawkpaw seemed to stretch his strides a touch to far, Hawkstar continued to watch in silence, intrigued by what his apprentice would show him. When the younger tom climbed up a rock, the StoneClan leader found his head tipping to the side slightly, eyes narrowing in thought. Still, he said nothing, trusting in the StoneClan-choosing tom's instincts. He watched as Hawkpaw climbed quietly up the face of a rock, before lowering himself down slightly, claws making a barely audible sound on the stone. His ear twitched at the sound it made, wondering if the rabbit his apprentice had been stalking had heard it.
When Hawkpaw dropped down upon his prey, and returned moments later, emerging from the grass with the rabbit clutched in his jaws, Hawkstar's mouth was taken over by a proud smile. He waited as the younger tom dropped the rabbit at his feet, before murmuring two words that had pride washing over him once more. With a dip of his head, the StoneClan leader couldn't help but agree. "For StoneClan." He murmured back, eyeing the rabbit and taking note that it was a fairly large one, a catch that any cat at any age would be proud of snatching.
"Well done, Hawkpaw. I must say, your idea of using the rock to drop down on top of the rabbit was a fascinating idea. The grass in which the rabbit lay would have made quite a bit of rustling as you approached, which could have potentially given away your position, so well done on improvising there. Just be sure that you watch your steps. Don't stretch yourself too far. Your stride is almost too large right now, which presents balance problems should quick action be required. You're doing extremely well, however, and I couldn't be more proud."
He offered the apprentice another smile, his voice turning into a slight purr as he finished speaking. His sand colored ears were flicking slightly, catching the sounds of prey as it scuffled around nearby, but his true attention was focused solely on Hawkpaw. With a flick of his tail, which lay curled around his paws, Hawkstar tipped his head to the side, fixing his apprentice with a curious stare. "Do you have any questions for me, Hawkpaw? Or perhaps you would like to give it another go?" After a moment, he spoke once more. "Or would you prefer we head back to camp?"

Hawkpaw Been dreaming of this since a child I’m on top of the world.
Pride ruffled in his pelt as he took the words of praise from Hawkstar. He has received praise before but it felt nearly one hundred times more rewarding than any other time before. His tail flicked back and forth as he looked at the rabbit, it was for StoneClan his true home.
It was different, he knew that deep in his heart he'd always be half RainClan, he'd be okay with swimming and getting his paws wet, but he felt so more more alive when he climbed high up into trees or leapt from rock to rock, the StoneClan blood within him so much more alive.
He was for a short time thinking of his first home, how it felt like a distant place but at the same time it was like a close escape. His entire family was in RainClan and he hadn't made friends in StoneClan, but clearly Hawkpaw was realizing that no matter where he was, swimming in RainClan or soaring for StoneClan, he'd be Half-Clan but he'd be proud.
Drawing his attention out of his current train of thought he looked up at Hawkstar and formed the words. "I a actually supposed to join Wolfclaw and a couple other cats for a patrol. If you are okay with it." He added that last part rather sheepishly. He had, before getting to know his mentor again, been training himself sort of, going on patrols and hunting with other warriors to learn a thing or two, waiting for Hawkstar's permission to leave, Hawkpaw looked content and actually happy compared to his earlier mood.

Hearing his apprentice's words, the large sand brown tabby tom gave Hawkpaw a dip of his head. Their morning had started off a little rough, but it seemed that the two had been able to work out any kinks that had developed between them. It was a great relief to the StoneClan leader, for he hated to think that someone, especially his own apprentice, was displeased with his actions. He had already been ashamed of himself for neglecting the younger tom's training. He certainly didn't need much more. Offering Hawkpaw a genuine smile, the large tabby rose slowly to his feet, tail flicking behind him once.
His grin was accentuated with a chuckle as a rather... Playful glint lit up his usually pale amber eyes. "We had better get you and your rabbit back to camp them. You don't want to make Wolfclaw wait, now do you?" His ear flicked as the breeze caught it, and with a slight toss of his head, the StoneClan leader indicated the direction they'd come from earlier that morning. "Come now. Let's return to StoneClan's camp, where you can deposit that impressive rabbit on the pile, to show StoneClan that you truly are a part of us, hm?"
Hesitating just a moment to ensure that his apprentice would follow him, Hawkstar set off towards camp, his large paws picking up a slower pace. He wasn't exactly in a huge rush to get back. If you were going to be slightly late for a hunting patrol with the deputy, you really could have no better excuse than 'I was training with the leader'. The thought made the tabby tom smile, giving his head a barely noticeable shake. He was in a good mood. What had started as a pretty crappy morning had turned out to be not so bad after all.
As his apprentice caught up to him, and the pair pushed on back into what StoneClan now referred to as their camp, the huge tom couldn't help but think once more of the unity of StoneClan. No matter how bad things had gotten, they had stuck together. They were still alive, and they were making their comeback. As the two Hawks, both young and old, padded on a trail that was alien, yet familiar all in the same moment, the oldest couldn't help the thought that flitted through his mind.
We're going to make it. The time for our return approaches... End thread?
