→ROOKFROST← Medicine Cat of LightningClan
The drums of war beat a steady rhythm inside his head that morning, Rookfrost glancing over his shoulder only once to make sure Redstar was still padding after him. It had not been long after her ceremony, and already she was to be tested in both her leadership skills and her resolve, by meeting here with the RainClan leader Sandstar and Medicine Cat, Swanfeather.
Having already given her the gist of the prophecy and the potential upside to forming an alliance with RainClan, Rookfrost's final task before things could be set into motion was to ensure that Redstar and Sandstar reached an agreement. An alliance must be made. Only under grave circumstances would he be comfortable with LightningClan attacking StoneClan on their own. It would be a victory that would cost them many lives and even more herbs trying to patch all of the wounded, however, with the added strength of RainClan, even the Clan amongst the stones would topple and be sent running for the mountains, to meet a fate far worse than the floods that threatened them all.
With the prophecy still echoing in his mind from when he had heard it from Snowpaw, the ebony shadow slunk into StarClan's Claws, he and Swanfeather having decided on meeting upon this neutral ground to avoid coming in contact with StoneClan. It was impossible to be spied on here, when the only possible hiding places were upon the claws themselves, and no cat could get up there without them seeing. Pleased to see Sandstar and Swanfeather already there, the black-pelted, dark-souled healer gave a curt dip of his head. "Sandstar, Swanfeather. I hope you were not kept waiting long." He mewed with a machine's politeness, his words flowing out as though he had said it a million times, tone still distant, as though he were reading from a piece of paper and nothing more. Glancing to Redstar, he hesitated, silently wondering who would take charge during this meeting.
It would depend on how and what Swanfeather had told Sandstar. If he was still as perceptive as he'd always been, then the knowledge that RainClan's camp had flooded - and the swollen river as proof - would be good, very good news for their plans. It would put the pressure on Sandstar, who would clearly be able to see that RainClan was in need of territory expansion, or else they would perish while half the forest fell to flooding. "Who wishes to speak first?" He mewed calmly, playing mediator.

She has been waiting some time but the black pointed she-cat did not express her dislike of Rookfrost tardiness outwardly, instead she lashed her tail harshly and waited for them to gather around.
Glancing to her left she studied the face of Sandstar, her noble leader and the tom-cat she had chosen with StarClan's help to be RainClan's leader. There was no doubt in her mind that the golden colored owed his title, rank and extra lives to her wisdom and understanding of StarClan's wishes. Having spoken to him in length about her meeting with Rookfrost a few days ago, Swanfeather had painted him a pretty picture of destruction in the wake of a coming flood. The land of RainClan losing all grip and stability in the earth and the only escape would be expansion, move their borders across their markings on the stone stream and further into StoneClan territory. She spoke curtly and harshly about Vultureback's betrayal but also about the aspects of his gained knowledge of how to hunt on StoneClan's turf, his mate being of their ranks.
While she knew Falconleap would be at war with herself being asked to fight against her first home but Swanfeather had ways of making a she-cat follow in a path. Swanfeather could easily hold the balance between life or death of a Queen's kits, not that she was willing but bluffing her threats wasn't difficult for the cold she-cat.
"I'll start and bring everything to a point. LightingClan and RainClan should form an alliance to face StoneClan and gain more land, with a coming flood foretold to me by StarClan. I feel that it's important that our alliance be strong and forceful in gaining new territory to ensure our Clan's survival. " She finished her small spill quickly and flicked her tail for Rookfrost to either add to her speech or allow another idea to come into play.

Redstar hadn’t spoken a word to Rookfrost since setting off from the LightningClan camp to meet with Sandstar and Swanfeather at StarClan’s Claws. The yellow-ginger she-cat already knew what she needed to do upon meeting the RainClan leader. LightningClan and RainClan both needed more land and with the news of RainClan’s camp flooding, the LightningClan leader was worried for her own camp; they were based on rather low land and it could easily flood. The point was, that she and Sandstar needed to make an alliance to drive out StoneClan and as a result gain more land. But will Sandstar agree with our terms? Upon reaching StarClan’s Claws, Redstar noticed that the two RainClan cats were already there. Dipping her head to the medicine cat and leader, she meowed calmly, ”Sorry for keeping you waiting.” She quickly settled herself opposite the Sandstar, watching him with slightly narrowed eyes. They were hear to make an alliance hopefully, but still, the red-yellow tabby leader couldn’t help not trusting the two RainClan cats.
"I'll start and bring everything to a point. LightningClan and RainClan should form an alliance to face StoneClan and gain more land, with a coming flood foretold to me by StarClan. I feel that it's important that our alliance be strong and forceful in gaining new territory to ensure our Clan's survival. " Redstar nodded calmly, but didn’t speak as she didn’t have any to add. Glancing at Rookfrost, she wondered whether the black medicine cat would have anything to add, but she doubted her would; they had already spoken on this matter. It was all very well going ahead with this alliance, but would her warriors be willing to fight beside RainClan cats and should there be any cats in a bit of a sticky situation, would they be happy to help relieve a RainClan cat of the situation as they would do with a clanmate? It wasn’t that Redstar doubted her clanmates loyalty, but would they accept this alliance or would they rebel against it? It wasn’t like they’d been given a choice about this matter, but then again, it was the easiest way to gain more territory to support their growing numbers, an offer which each and every one of them would accept. She decided to let Rookfrost speak instead of her seeing as she was still getting used to the whole idea of being leader; she still felt a little uncomfortable at speaking for her clan.

~|Sandstar|~ LEADER OF RAINCLAN ____________________________________________________ He would be lying if he claimed that the prospect of a horrible flood did not worry him in the slightest. The idea itself was not a foreign one; in fact, he could have predicted its existence himself based solely off of the amount of snow that had fallen this past leaf-bare and the promised rain fall that came with the arrival of new-leaf. Rather, it was the implications that worried him, the effects that a flood, especially one of the magnitude Swanfeather had described, would have on his clan. Of course, their camp, situated as it was, surrounded by water, would be lost, as would most of their territory. Rivers and streams snaked through most of the area, winding their way into almost every corner of RainClan territory. Both dangerous and beautiful, this intricate maze could either awe them or kill them. Or both.
As a result, he had become consumed with figuring out possible solutions to the numerous problems that would arise with the rising water level. Despite working on it for the past few days, he had made very little progress and had consequently developed a very large amount of respect for those leaders who, in times of crisis, instantly came up with a solution without any forethought. He had had days to consider it, yet his results were not nearly as successful as he had hoped they would be when it came time to meet with the LightningClan party. And that was the crux of his problem. Though they had accepted the other clan's assistance before, he could have done nothing but follow along; with the late Deadstar as leader, he had very little say in RainClan's actions. Now, however, he made the decisions, and he was not eager to add to the debt RainClan already owed LightningClan by asking for shelter once again. Not only would it emphasize RainClan's weakness, but it would put them under LightningClan's control even more; both of these were counterproductive in his ultimate goal of RainClan superiority. However, he could think of very few other answers to finding shelter and surviving the aftermath. If it became as saturated as Swanfeather predicted, their territory would be unfit for both living and hunting.
Even as he sat at StarClan's Claws, waiting for Rookfrost and Blazestar - or perhaps Redwind? - to make an appearance, he tried to prevent himself from drowning in the myriad of thoughts that filled his mind. Just as he found himself hoping that the two LightningClan cats would show, they did, and when he noticed that Redwind had shown in Blazestar's place, he wondered what had happened to the other tom. Keeping his expression as even as possible, he inclined his head in a curt nod to both cats, responding to Rookfrost's distant greeting with a quiet and equally polite, "Rookfrost, Redwind. Think nothing of it; we were not waiting long." And then the dance began.
Swanfeather spoke first reiterating her earlier words to him and emphasizing the important points, which were, in his opinion, a single one: his clan's, and by extension, his own, survival. Golden eyes shifted from the familiar she-cat to the not-so-familiar faces of the LightningClan representatives, lingering longer on Redwind than they did the black menace beside her. Presumably, the she-cat had taken up the mantle of leader in place of Blazestar, at least in this matter, and he expected that she would have her own thoughts of the matter. "No questions?" He found himself inquiring, more than a little curious at her conspicuous silence. "Comments? Concerns?" Despite his expectations, she remained silent, with nothing more than a slight look of uncertainty flitting across her features so quickly that he might have missed it. RainClan's medicine cat had summarized the situation very well. They all knew what RainClan needed. Apart from the strength of their clan, they had little leverage in this alliance. If LightningClan was that desperate, they could turn to a different clan for help. He hated that imbalance of power.
And yet, it would not do to remain silent. They would only appear weaker if their leader did not speak in a discussion about his own clan's future. "I am curious. What are your thoughts on this proposition?" He paused, looking from the medicine cat to the deputy. "Would you agree to an alliance with us, Redwind?" He wanted to know what she thought before he committed to anything.

Redstar thought carefully over Swanfeather’s words. An alliance was necessary if they wanted to gain more land to provide sufficient prey for their ever-growing numbers. "I am curious. What are your thoughts on this proposition?" Redstar dipped her head respectfully to the other leader, ”I agree, it must be done, but I worry for what my clan would think of it,” she meowed calmly, ”No disrespect to your clan, I just worry that they may not want to fight beside RainClan warriors.” She paused for a moment to think over Sandstar’s next words. "Would you agree to an alliance with us, Redwind?" Redstar was about to correct the RainClan leader as she was no longer Redwind, but Redstar, but decided against it. It can wait ‘till the gathering. She took a deep breath and having made up her mind, mewed ”But like I’ve already said, an alliance is necessary if we want to beat StoneClan, if my clan decided they don’t want to be allied with RainClan, then that’s tough,” she smiled politely, amber eyes fixed on Sandstar, ”Yes, I would agree to an alliance with you.”

→ROOKFROST← Medicine Cat of LightningClan
There was no question that these four cats alone all had personalities that were vastly different from one another - first, there was the punctual, brusque Swanfeather, who had summarized the situation and stated her opinion on the matter with efficiency even he could nod in approval of. Then there was the pensive survivalist, Sandstar, who never did things recklessly, who was not necessarily slow in decision making, more expansive, rather, as he considered every possible angle before settling on a decision with the most benefit. Skipping over himself, that left Redstar, the novice amongst the experienced, though what she lacked in time, she made up for in effort and a promise to StarClan and to herself to do her best. Though Rookfrost wasn't much for promises, nor was he much for politics, but he felt comfortable with the idea that he could understand Redstar's behaviors, and gradually, whenever the mood to be helpful struck him, he would give a quick tip or two on how to mask her emotions properly, or come off as neutral or cold when necessary.
Now wasn't exactly the time for coldness, not when he and Swanfeather were attempting to create an alliance, and Rookfrost instead watched with attentive, shadowy silver eyes that darted from face to face, attention captured by whomever was speaking, though he himself was silent and still.
”But like I’ve already said, an alliance is necessary if we want to beat StoneClan, if my clan decided they don’t want to be allied with RainClan, then that’s tough,” [...] ”Yes, I would agree to an alliance with you.”
This almost drew the faint ghost of a smile over Rookfrost's jet black muzzle, inwardly making note of Redstar's inner resolve to do the best thing for her Clan - whether they thought it was the best thing for them or not. Finally finding it time to add his own voice to this war meeting, Rookfrost cleared his throat and spoke up; "In agreement with Redstar, an alliance must be made and a battle carried out if both Clans are to prosper come Newleaf. The snow will not wait until we are fully prepared; though our Clans have never had enormous amounts of camaraderie, they have never been so blind as to not see the approaching danger and the steps that must be taken to prevent catastrophe."
Fixing silver pools upon the sandy face of RainClan's leader, Rookfrost did not need to vocalize his question - it was obvious at this point. They had all heard each of their varying opinions, with only the RainClan leader left. With a curt nod to signal that he had finished, the ebony tom grew still again, a statue turning back to stone until he needed to speak again.

| Even though part of him could relate to Redwind and her desire to please everyone, another part of him recognized the foolishness in attempting to accomplish that impossible feat. Getting a group of cats to unanimously agree to one statement - and fully support it with no qualms - would be an impressive feat simply because that never happened. There would always be at least one cat of a varying opinion, who would be displeased, regardless of his choice. It was with this in mind that he made these important decisions, making the personal opinions of all but the most important irrelevent. A general opinion, he took into account, but excluding select few, he brushed aside those of specific cats.
Appearing to be of a similar mindset, if not more unyeilding than his own, the she-cat would agree to an alliance. With a slight inclination, he accepted the information, mulling it over as golden eyes turned to meet the gray ones of Rookfrost as he spoke. Idly, he noted the use of the name Redstar, and he refused to show any reaction to the fact that he had been addressing the LightningClan she-cat by the wrong name throughout the whole meeting. It had been out of ignorance, not of any malicious desire - though he did find it interesting that it had been the medicine cat and not LightningClan's leader herself to correct him. Ears flicked at the black feline's words, acknowledging the points.
It was as if they were trying to convince him to agree, as if they feared that he doubted the way RainClan could benefit from this alliance. He was not stupid. He recognized what little choice he actually had in the matter. With the dreaded flood to come and no doubt wash away the majority of their territory, if not all of it, they could use whatever dry clan they could get their claws on. Naturally, StoneClan was the logical choice, since their high ground had a reputation for staying dry when the rest of the territories flooded. It was also conveniently situated between his and Redstar's clans. One observation sparked his suspicion, however. RainClan needed the territory. LightningClan simply wanted it. But if the she-cat was volunteering to help RainClan obtain the territory that was necessary to RainClan's - and his - continued survival, who was he to argue? Two clans stood a better chance than one.
"Very well," He responded at last, inclining his head as he turned a golden-eyed gaze back on the LightningClan's newest leader. "I will agree to this alliance. It will be used to chase out StoneClan, after which their territory will be divided between our two clans in a manner agreed upon by us at a later date." He had debated the use of the word 'evenly', though decided to forego it this early in the agreement. Who knew? Perhaps RainClan would benefit and gain more territory than their neighbor; he certainly would not settle for less than half. "If this is acceptable, all that is left is to discuss the attack itself." He was not about to lead a patrol of RainClan cats into StoneClan territory only to find that LightningClan had decided to hide away in their camp. Likewise, he would not blindly lead his warriors into battle without any idea of an attack plan with Redstar - even a vague one would do, as long as he had a semblence of a plan. Yellow eyes flicked over to the two medicine cats, lingering for a moment longer on his own. "You said that the flood will happen in a matter of days, correct?" |
