And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on it was Death, and Hades followed with him.

He walked like a shadow of death over the land of ice and snow, black paws churning through each frosty layer. The purpose with which he strode brought to light the intensity of each icy gray orb, his almost monochrome appearance sticking out like a raven against the backdrop of white. As StarClan's Claws came into view, the purpose of the approaching meeting came to the forefront of his mind. Shortly after they had parted at the last Medicine Cat gathering, Rookfrost had informed Swanfeather that he wished to speak with her, away from the ears and eyes of others, as it just did not concern them.

Well, it could concern them, but Rookfrost knew better.

Too many paws made for a clumsiness they could not afford.

Slipping noiselessly into the meetingplace, the black tom lifted his chin, eyes narrowing against the sun-struck snow, his back to the stony talons that seemed to rise like grim spectators all around him.
"Swanfeather." He mewed as his only greeting, approaching close enough to deign a little of intimacy between conspirators, while still keeping an appropriate distance between them. They were planners, not denmates. Rookfrost had never been one to bring a particularly strong sense of coziness to a situation anyway.
"Have you informed Sandstar of the prophecy?" Obviously she would've, the pointed Medicine Cat would have no reason to keep it a secret, and would gain nothing from neglecting to tell her Clan leader those ominous words. Still, it was his way of opening up conversation, intending to jump right to their whole reason for being here.

The prophecy. An alliance. What was in it for each of their respective Clans. Meeting the sapphire gaze of the healer she-cat in front of him, Rookfrost awaited her answer, still as a statue, only the occasional flick of his ear denoting he was even still alive. It was an unconscious thing, really, his ability to grow as lifeless as a stone that had been here for centuries. The darkness of his fur made it difficult to notice any subtle movements, such as breathing, which often gave off the illusion that he didn't need to breathe at all.

That was completely asinine, of course. He may have all the speech patterns and sympathy of a machine, but he was still a living, breathing creature with a mind of his own.

A brilliant mind that fully intended to make use of what StarClan had so generously dumped into their paws.

"Remember, Falconleap needs four borage leaves. She is nursing three kits, don't forget. Also I have a bundle of mouse-bile that needs to be given to another apprentice. I might be gone for a while, I am traveling to StarClan's claws to meet with Rookfrost about having an alliance for trading herbs. You don't have to wait up for me, but I hope you do well without me for the night. If there is any emergency that you are unable to handle, please with StarClan's blessing send the fastest warrior for help, I won't be hard to find." She meowed her last bit of instructions to her apprentice before flicking her tail over his ear and exiting her den. It wasn't that she didn't trust him, she was simply not used to being able to do her own thing without worrying about being gone to long. With Falconleap nursing well enough, much to her dislike of the half-clan kits, she was at least pleased they weren't of NightClan crossing. She knew that assisting in their birth would have been difficult if Falconleap had been a NightClan warrior, in fact she wouldn't have allowed them to stay. If it came to lying to Sandstar about those kits being born she would have, however, it was StarClan's small blessing that she was StoneClan warrior.

Nodding goodbye to her sister Goosewing, she picked up pace to keep herself warm. Trotting most of the distance, she enjoyed the rush into her limbs the thrill of being able to stretch her limbs, it was until she crossed the border did she slow down. With her tail raised high she kept her movements brisk, but slower than her trot.

Into StarClan's claws she carried herself, finding herself sitting below the leader's rock, she looked toward the direction of LightingClan, just as Rookfrost came into view. There wasn't much to say other than nodding in greeting to the lush black tom.

"I told Sandstar the day after I got back, he agrees with me about the threat of war. I took a vow as a medicine cat to protect my Clan, but that doesn't mean I can't align myself with a cat, like yourself that in the past has helped out RainClan so much. " She meowed politely flicking her lush tail a few times. "Now to get to the point, what is your plan? I know that it's important that LightingClan and RainClan are allies in this war, with Falconleap's betrayal to her Clan, StoneClan is weak, pitiful and weak." She nearly growled the last half out.

While Swanfeather didn't like nor dislike Falconleap, she saw the expansion into StoneClan as an assist. The herbs she could not to mention the prey that Falconleap would be able to teach her mate how to hunt, a few times the black pointed she-cat saw the mottled tom hunting birds as if it was second nature, it was a pleasure to see Vultureback learning skill from mate. However, Swanfeather wasn't so keen to expressing her knowledge of how well RainClan could expand, it was better to wait to see Rookfrost's idea. So after she spoke she waited for his response.

Rookfrost, as a healer, was never the type of tom who sugarcoated anything, and he wasn't about to start now.
"With newleaf will come the flooding. While LightningClan has the driest of the five territories, RainClan always has the wettest." He didn't really need to lecture her on her own turf's frequent flooding, simply remind her of the urgency of the situation. "If the Clans are to survive the aftermath of this winter, then four will need to expand, and the fifth will no longer have any claim to the forest." Who was he to decide which Clan stayed or left? No one. He did NOT have the right to make these sort of decisions, but if Rookfrost had ever done what was right for the sake of morality, then he would not be the same cat he was now.

As for his plans...

The ebony Medicine Cat let out a dry snort, which was usually never a good sign from a tom like him. "I don't believe in there being a 'heathen' Clan. What I do believe in, is strength and weakness. StoneClan has been weakened by the loss of Falconleap and the sparseness of their own territory. Through the use of rumors and mock legends of old, the probability of arguing StoneClan's right to be here will become that much easier. If we pit the forest against them, then StoneClan cannot stand."

Though NightClan and TreeClan seemed to primarily have issues with one another, he was neither trusting nor concerned with either Clan. Particularly NightClan - though Lionstar - for all the pretenses of nobility and earnest goodness he seemed to project - was also not to be trusted. He recognized loyalty and dedication when it was staring him in the face every full-moon, right there atop those rocks.

While Rookfrost was not sure of Swanfeather's position or beliefs concerning SToneClan, he was not particularly concerned with her rejecting his plan. RainClan would have to find higher ground, or risk being flooded out again and forced to seek refuge in LightningClan. If LightningClan was willing to have RainClan in their debt twice, that is. Or would they turn to NightClan instead, who were usually not much better off, in their swamplands and their muck?

It might seem odd for him to be involved in this sort of scheming, considering his Clan did not have much to lose in the upcoming flood season, but Rookfrost, as always, had his reasons.

Reasons he would then use, to discuss with Redstar about a possible alliance forming between them.

Sandstar would likely go for it. He was a survivalist. Though a sensible tom, they would not sell the idea of a 'heathen Clan' to the RainClan leader, they would sell the idea of 'necessary territory expansion' so that the many cats in his care were sure to survive. Besides.
It was as the prophecy foretold.

Five fall to Four and One falls to flight.

If all went according to plan, the sky would truly be falling.

The black pointed she-cat didn't need reminding the danger her entire clan was in, what she wasn't was the promise of proctection. A place her Clan could get to in order wait out the flood once again, she wasn't not keen on plotting some massive war with complex loyalties. All Swanfeather wanted was simple but Rookfrost did have a few good points and the beautiful she-cat was greatly pleased to know that Rookfrost wanted the same thing she wanted.

While pushing StoneClan away wouldn't be the hardest thing to do, a few well placed raids support from LighitngClan's speed and agility, RainClan's strength and even Vultureback's knowledge of StoneClan camp would all come together nicely. Swanfeather herself didn't feel that StoneClan didn't deserve to be among the Clan, but she did feel that gaining the much needed land to provide an extra camp, StoneClan's soon to abandoned would be very useful.

A faded smile showed that Swanfeather was planning something dark in her pretty little head. "What if you and I came up with false prophesies. That way we'd be able under 'StarClan's Will' rage this war and expansion of territory quickly and without too many question. " Swanfeather meowed calmly, her thoughts drifting for only a moment to picturing Frostfang her dead forbidden mate, heading off a battle cry before racing into StoneClan's camp. No doubt in her mind instead of Razorfang as their deputy her forbidden mate would take his place, but that was a thought she knew would be treason, plot the death of Razorfang for her own forbidden mate's advancement.

"However if we are to this we must remain committed to each other. No pause or fear, we will go full force into this the life of both RainClan and even LightingClan is at stake, you agree?" Swanfeather asked him, hardly showing remorse as the medicine cat plotted the death of few StoneClan cats but also the destruction of an entire cat.

She was suggesting a holy war?
Rookfrost kept his expression neutral, lest it wrinkle in silent disgust. He had nothing against StarClan, personally, but it would be too much for him to stomach to walk around spewing lie after lie as though he were some kind of ridiculous prophet, spreading their word that StoneClan was a heathen Clan. It wasn't as if the idea of such blasphemy frightened him or made him ill; it was more along the lines of it being so heavily against his nature, to speak such damning words as though he truly believed them. He could lie, yes, he was more than happy, guiltless in fact, to do such things, but coming up with false prophecies were not as easy as that.

If he had a series of unpleasant dreams, however, that would be more realistic - that way Snowpaw and the other Medicine Cats would not pile all the blame upon him for being one of the driving forces that will chase the stones from the forest, never to return.

"I will remain committed to the safety of my Clan," Rookfrost mewed by way of response to Swanfeather's second statement, voicing aloud his views on the matter. "If our interests remain on common ground, then the alliance you are proposing will be solid. However, sparking a holy war has never been my intention. It would take one counterprophecy from Blackeagle to make things more complicated than they should be."

The dark shape flicked an ear with distaste, the intelligent spark of his eyes visible despite their iciness, the tom obviously giving this some very serious thought. "All it would take to unravel is for Blackeagle to ask StarClan themselves about the authenticity of our own fake prophecies, and we would instantly be painted blasphemers for lying."

He was quiet another moment, solving this as though it were an equation to be worked out through mental strength alone.
"I will take care of LightningClan. A nightmare here or there foretelling the destruction of RainClan should be enough to convince Sandstar to take a look at the idea of expansion. Predict a heavy flood season - something probable, something with irrefutable proof. Things will fall in to place with enough prodding and the right words, Swanfeather." Icy eyes glimmering like moonlight, he shared a rare, grim smile.
"We are on the cusp of war as it is. It will be in our best interest to do damage control and turn things in our favor before it comes down to bloodshed."

Was it wrong that he was looking forward to this?

Yes, most definitely yes.

He had disagreed with her request of creating a false prophecy, while she understood his reasoning behind denying such large of a request, but perhaps she would say her desire for a Holy War for another time, possibly a vendetta against NightClan would be the focal point of her Holy War, but that would have to be on her own time.

He however offered her up a little leeway with the idea of false prophecies, which were those of a coming flood, but what the black tom cat didn't know was just how intense this prophecy would come to be. Already forming in heart broken mind was the image of blood and dead cats laying around, few cats clawing up side of a stone ledge, hopefully that creative image would be enough for Sandstar to rage war with the assist of LightingClan, but she had to be careful no matter what.

Flicking her tail she looked at him and nodded in silent understanding, the feeling that their meeting was coming to an end. " I will create a prophecy and report it to Sandstar within the next few days. Meet again here in 10 sunrises to see how things are playing out. I trust you won't go back on our plan and if all works out both of our Clan will have new land to thrive and create an alliance to ensure that only four clans rule the valley." Swanfeather spoke calmly and quickly, but a thought entered her head. What if instead of four only three and then later only two. Give it some time and soon RainClan will be the only Clan. Swanfeather thought to herself, her eyes cast upward not to betray the dark thoughts molding in her head, for no doubt if Frostfang was beside her, Swanfeather knew that she wouldn't be pressing for such expansion or death of one Clan.

Rookfrost too sensed the finality that came with both deciding on a strategy, a direction with which to take this wily plan of theirs. "You need not worry." He replied with tacit coolness, dagger-sharp eyes fixed upon her darkly pointed features, gaze seeming to burrow into Swanfeather's own frosted blue eyes, as though searching for the shadows that skulked there, just beneath the surface. If he had discovered any, if he suspected any, he did not show it. Standing once more, the Medicine Cat of LightningClan tilted his down and then up in a single curt nod, showing additional respect for his new-found partner in scheming.

There was a part of the ebony tom with the shadowy steps and the conflictingly dark aura that found Swanfeather worthy of being cautious around. She was no fool. Rookfrost had long ago learned to be weary of the cat who knew enough to be weary of him; though he did exceptionally well to keep his skeletons firmly buried, the occasional glint of the eye or a rogue statement that had not necessarily been intended for listening ears would slip out when he grew careless. She's not someone I should underestimate or turn my back on.

It was an unusual thing, but Rookfrost almost smiled.

From one highly cerebral mind to another, he could appreciate a cat he could not fully trust; just as he didn't expect her to fully trust him, he did place trust in their mutual desires, for however long they remained mutual. She was a clever creature, almost wickedly so, and though he knew not what burdens she carried or what scars she hid from view, Rookfrost knew enough, had witnessed enough of her behavior to know that neither was she, an ordinary Medicine Cat.
"Goodbye. May the fates look upon us favorably." Though this was him more or less declaring his departure, the note of snark infused in the statement as a whole was more of a humorous, inward jab at his own lack of faith.
The fates.

He chose not to give his time nor the benefit of the doubt to that which truly had no control over him. Walking past Swanfeather and in the direction of the Open Woods, the spectral healer once more took to the ice and snow and wind, soundless paws carrying him with purpose, as though he were being borne upon the approaching drumbeats of war. Ten sunrises from now, they would meet again, and Rookfrost would - as he anticipated to - have a few cards placed upon the table in the name of LightningClan.
