[atrb=border,0,true] | sincerely, noblepaw
the road i walk is paved in gold to glorify my platinum soul | [CS=2] Noblepaw let out a soft sigh for perhaps the hundredth time, his strides sharp and annoyed. He was not a mousebrain. Did she really think that he hadn't noticed her presense? He recognized what the little prickling sensation on the back of his neck meant; he knew when he was being watched. And he was perfectly capable of observing his surroundings as well. His senses were all in prime condition, and even if his back was to her, he could still tell that she was there. But he had ignored her so far, hoping that she would grow bored and go away. However, that seemed to have not been the case.
Couldn't a cat get some time to themselves, away from the clan? All day long, it was the same thing over and over and over again. Hunt here, patrol there. The best part was the battle training, during which he could take out his frustrations on the other apprentices. But the challenge they posed was not enough for him, and neither was the end result. How could he gain the glory and recognition he deserved by constantly beating his den mates? They were apprentices. He wanted to defeat a warrior. That would prove his strength and prowess and gain him everything he deserved. But that, of course, was out of the question. He could not beat a warrior and prove to TreeClan what a real apprentice was supposed to be like.
And today, Bloodtalon had given him the day off to relax, as had all the other mentors in the wake of the hunting challenge. Normally, he would have appreciated this action, choosing to stay in camp and show off to the admiring kits - they always recognize my worth - however, that meant that he would have to deal with the company of the other apprentices. Most of whom, he could not stand. To spare his irritation, Noblepaw had abandoned the camp, wandering off into the forest. If he couldn't show off to the kits, then he wanted to be alone with only his thoughts for company. But it seemed like complete solitude evaded him, for he had had a follower almost the whole time. He did not know why she was there and why she would not leave.
It was with growing irritation that Noblepaw had worked on ignoring his shadow. Granted, she was one of the more tolerable apprentices, but he was not in the mood for entertaining others. The only reason he knew her identity was because he had whipped around when he first felt eyes on him and saw a brief flash of recognizable fur. He had only rolled his eyes and continued on his way, under the incorrect impression that boredom would overcome her and she would leave.
How wrong had he been. And now, his patience was wearing thin. Noblepaw did not appreciate being followed. He did not appreciate the insult to his intelligence, the idea that he was oblivious to her presense. Why would she continue to sneak up on him if she knew he knew that she was there? It would render whatever she was trying to do pointless. Tail tip twitching, the apprentice stopped abruptly and whipped around, restraining his irritation. "Why do you keep following me, Duskpaw?"

She wanted to yowl at him, her senses on high alert as she'd been trotting doggedly after the gray and white apprentice all morning. "Because," she mewed, stalling to catch her breath, "Going off alone is dangerous sometimes," I was kinda worried. Realizing he would probably take her shadowing him because she was concerned for his safety offensive, Duskpaw shifted gears in the blink of an eye, making it seem as though she'd been following him for her safety, not his.
"Some of the warriors were talking about Demon, and since our territory is so close to his den, I didn't want to go off by myself. With Distantstar dead and everyone still sad, I didn't want to hang around the camp today." Ears folding back, her eyes shifting away from his, as though embarrassed. In a way, it wasn't a total lie. Even if he was kind of a jerk, she did feel safest around Noblepaw, contrary to how her sister felt - but her sister didn't have a crush on him the size of StarClan's Claws.
"Do you mind if I come with you for a little while?" Duskpaw mewed sincerely, watching his bright green eyes for a reaction - he would either shrug like he didn't care or send her back home with a few hostile words, but she couldn't just head home. She really was afraid of Demon getting him. Though it was a rare occurrence, it still occurred on occasion. [atrb=border,0,true] | sincerely, noblepaw
the road i walk is paved in gold to glorify my platinum soul | [CS=2] Her first words did nothing to soothe his temper. First she followed him from camp, and now she had the audacity to pour salt in the wound by implying that he was not capable of taking care of himself? Was he the only one in camp who recognized his skill? While he was talented in the rest, his natural skill even rested in fighting. That much was obvious to anyone who cared to look. I think I can defend myself better than any other apprentice. Irritably, he parted his jaws, about to cut through the she-cat's words and interrupt her without a second thought. "What, do you think--" He began sharply, eyes flashing as he fought to defend his pride.
However, Duskpaw hastily cut across him in turn, expressing her desire to not be alone. The complete opposite of his own, of course, but he could feel his annoyance dying as he realized that she had turned to him for protection. She obviously recognized that he was a competent apprentice, and Noblepaw enjoyed the sense of pride that came with it. He straightened a little, giving his chest fur a few quick licks as the remains of his irritation gave way to a feeling of self-importance. "I don't think you have to worry about Demon today," The apprentice reassured her, all confidence. "He wouldn't stand a chance against the two of us." It was true; the lynx would not even have a chance against Noblepaw alone, let alone their combined fighting abilities. Whereas he could see why Duskpaw was worried for her own safety, the tom knew that he had nothing to worry about.
When she posed her next question, Noblepaw considered the answer, basking in the power it gave him. He could tell her to go back or he could tell her to stay. It was all his decision, all based on what he wanted. However, he gave it some serious thought, weighing his desires with her's and the situation. Had it been any other cat, Noblepaw would have immediately ordered her to return to camp and leave him alone. However, he knew that once Duskpaw set her mind to something, chances were that she would not back off. The she-cat would probably continue to trail him anyway. Besides, she had unknowingly asked for his protection; that won her a lot of points.
"Come on, Duskpaw," He flicked his tail, inviting her to join him. Noblepaw sounded more resigned than anything, but he did feel more fondness toward the energetic she-cat than he would admit. Duskpaw had some spirit, a fire inside of her that her sister lacked. And she seemed to genuinely enjoy his company. "You can stick around. I don't think you'd go back to camp even if I told you to anyway."

You can stick around."
The she-cat felt as though her heart might burst, the tortoiseshell and white tabby taking in her fellow apprentice's words the same way she would've taken in a compliment. Both were just as rare from him - a compliment and him actually gesturing for her to come with him. Purring with indescribable delight, Duskpaw quickened her pace to pad just a step slower than he was, brought right up to his left flank. Being this close to him, she could see the natural predatory gait with which he moved - he was remniscent of a gray and white, stripeless tiger, stalking through his territory. Not wanting to get caught admiring him, Duskpaw proposed a question, now observing with a curious flicker of her eyes. "Do you ever get bored with just training and hunting all the time?"
Maybe that was what had drawn him out here in the first place? Her highly talented comrade being more than a match for his fellow apprentices and probably his own mentor. The humdrums of training, hunting, patrolling, training, hunting, patroling to a cat who was already in a league of his own must be frustrating for him. Still...perhaps he could pass the time until his warrior ceremony getting to know some of his Clan mates a little better? Even if just one in particular?
Duskpaw was having a hard time picturing him actually, plausibly walking up to her to start a conversation or even invite her to come take a walk with him, but hey, a she-cat could dream, right? Flicking her ears to the sounds of the forest, it hadn't been a lie that Duskpaw felt safe and secure around her highly capable companion, and thus she didn't mind or even consider how far into TreeClan's territory they were wandering, steadily drawing closer to the mountains with each easy step they took.

the road i walk is paved in gold to glorify my platinum soul | [CS=2] She was certainly willing enough to march off into the forest with him, if the purr she let loose was anything to go by. Noblepaw waited for her to catch up to him before starting off once more, pleased that she still gave him the lead. Though he turned his gaze outward again, the apprentice was now very conscious of the warm body beside him. He had someone else to protect other than himself, someone else who needed him. It was a good feeling, he decided, to be needed, to have a job. The tom would have been content to walk in silence, consider this new and pleasant sensation that flowed through his veins; however, it seemed as though Duskpaw had something else in mind, for she spoke a moment later.
Do I get tired of the same routine? "Of course," The tom answered simply, instantly. He had not even had to consider the question. "Wouldn't you? It's the same day after day." Gray and white head turned as green eyes glanced back at his companion. "Hunting, training, patrolling. It gets very repetitive after a while. Why do you ask?" Flicking his tail, Noblepaw let his paws lead the way while conversed with the she-cat. While he remained alert to his surroundings, the tom was comfortable turning his attention away from his path. He knew where he was headed.

Duskpaw visibly shrugged when he glanced her way, able to catch her movements. "You just seem a little bored sometimes, and it's no surprise, considering how talented you are that you'd get bored quicker than everyone else." She wasn't trying to butter him up and get on his good side with neverending compliments, Duskpaw was being honest, stating her observations as she kept pace with the gray and white apprentice. One would think that having Bloodtalon for a mentor would be enough excitement for Noblepaw, but the fact that he was bored with the battle-loving tom really spoke for itself. "There's a little more to do than just training and hunting though," suggested the ginger-patched, mottled she-cat, her white-tipped paws lightly crunching against fallen leaves, tail carried evenly behind her, the longest fur on his brushing against the grass she walked over. In her nervousness, Duskpaw's steps faltered for a split second, along with her heart, which was already quickening it's pace within her chest. "You could spend some time with friends, maybe? The Sparkling Brook is nice this time of year."
It was difficult to picture the gray and white tom actually taking a few moments to spend a bit of leisure time with some friends, but Duskpaw couldn't help but cling to the idea that he might consider it. He was arrogant beyond all comprehension, truly, but Duskpaw had a suspicion that it didn't quite run as deep as everyone else believed it did. Even if the apprentice swore up and down he didn't need friends, Duskpaw would quietly, in her own little way, take up the mantle of being his one and only true friend, whether he realized it or not. He's going to become an amazing warrior while I'll still be an apprentice. The she-cat realized with a slightly startled look, tuning out the world around her as this latest epiphany struck a few cords close to home. They were about 2 moons apart in age, which meant she would literally always be just a step behind him, like she was now. Would his opinion of her change then? Would he consider himself far more superior once he had relocated to the Warriors Den while she was still curling up next to Dawnpaw at night?
A feeling of dread slipped into her stomach like cold lead. He was arrogant, yes, but...could Noblepaw really discard her feelings and her loyalty so easily?

the road i walk is paved in gold to glorify my platinum soul | [CS=2] Lips formed into a thin smile at Duskpaw's praise, and he slowed to a stop, having reached his destination. Turning, he turned to look back at his companion, waiting for her to catch up. Really, if she truly appreciated him this much, perhaps he should stick around some more. He was enjoying all these compliments; it was a shame that the other cats in TreeClan did not spout them as often as this she-cat. However, it was at her second comment that he let out a little hmm of consideration, nodding slightly. It was only logical that he should get to know his denmates better, as he would be sharing the clan's duties with them, but at the same time, it wasn't their opinions and thoughts that were important. It was their talent, their skills, how well they could defend TreeClan against outside attacks. Feelings were nice in an ideal world, but they had no place in the real one, where there was an almost constant threat of attack. A cat did not live long by claiming that they loved every other one.
However, he did not think that this hopeful apprentice would understand his reasoning. Perhaps it was because of her age, or it might just have been because of the way her mind was set up, infinitely more bright and happy than his own. Whatever it was, he did not want to crush whatever kept her hopeful. She might understand when she was older. Even Noblepaw did not recognize the slightly condescending tone his thoughts had. The corner of his lip twitching upward, he glanced at Duskpaw out of the corner of his eye, saying offhandedly, "Is that not what I'm doing?" Flicking his tail, he looked up at the short, gnarled tree by his side. It was a favorite haunt of his, apart from the Great Maple. Most of its leaves were missing, but that was a result of age rather than the weather. This tree was dead, yet its twisted branches were a fascinating maze of twists and turns that he loved to navigate.
With practiced ease, the tom sprung up onto the lowest branch, claws digging into the dead bark. He made his way a little higher in the boughs of the tree, giving her space to jump up, before calling back down, "Come on, Duskpaw. You're not going to stay down there, are you?" Settling himself lazily on a branch, he added, "You're easier prey for Demon down there, you know."

"Is that not what I'm doing?"
Really? Did he mean that? Surprise but a quiver in her whiskers and a roundedness back into her glittery eyes, Duskpaw doing her best to play it off as wonderment towards the gnarled, twisting dead maple he'd led them to. He must come here often, Duskpaw deducted, the smell of his scent was a few days old in the bushes she was standing in front of, the older scent quickly mingling with the current one as Noblepaw ascended the tree with ease. Not planning on letting him have all the fun, the she-cat's haunches wriggled, her eyes filled with warmth as she sprang, shoving off of powerful back legs (her specialty being climbing), Duskpaw scampered up the gnarled, ancient tree to settle next to Noblepaw. "Do you come here oft--"
As through struck by lightning, Duskpaw froze, every muscle in her body tensed, her eyes rounded with terror, her fear scent flowing off of her in waves. A strange smell... A very strange predatory smell... Oh no. Stiffly, the she-cat turned on the branch in time to see an enormous monster with ticked fur, paws as large as the heads of her Clanmates, stalk forward out from the bushes, making no effort to hide his presence at all. Never before had she laid eyes on such a big cat, never before had she felt so small and helpless since she'd left the nursery, never before had every fiber of her being screamed at her to run with the intensity with which it did now.
Gazing into a wide, heavily ruffed face of a creature that she'd believed to have only stalked through the elders' tales, Duskpaw was rigid with fear, cruel gray eyes lifting to the two cats in the tree - a low chuckle shoved past steel-like jaws. "Such leetle cubs, so far frohm home." Rumbled the male lynx, his jet-black ear tufts shivering when he chuckled further, his accent heavy, thick with all the strangeness that came with this creature of nightmare. Duskpaw couldn't speak. She unconsciously shrank back on the branch to Noblepaw's side, body trembling like a leaf in a wind storm.

[atrb=border,0,true] | sincerely, noblepaw
the road i walk is paved in gold to glorify my platinum soul | [CS=2] He shifted a little on his branch to give Duskpaw more room when she ascended the tree with as much ease as he had. Another climber in the batch of apprentices, then? Perhaps they should have a competition; Noblepaw was willing to race anyone to prove his climbing prowess, just as he would fight anything and anyone. Unsheathed claws clung to the branch as he thought about which feline would be the most glorious to defeat. Imagine if he beat Lionstep, or even all of the leaders. Surely no cat in the forest was a better opponent than they.
His mind came to the conclusion just as the figure stepped from the bushes. The newcomer's size alone made him instantly recognizable to the apprentice, and he became very conscious of Duskpaw's shivering as she leaned into his side. He pressed back comfortingly against her. "It's alright, Duskpaw," He tried to reassure her softly, in a quiet voice. "I won't let him hurt either of us." Sick amusement flitted across his consciousness; he had told the she-cat earlier that she had no need to worry about Demon, so the lynx would show up. Figures. Noblepaw, however, did not cower away from the predator. Instead, he sized up the other feline, cementing in his head that Demon would be the best cat to defeat. He could already hear the cheers of TreeClan when he and Duskpaw returned home with a lynx carcass. He might even be made a warrior right then and there! The tom's tail began to lash at that thought, and green eyes stared at Demon hungrily.
That thing can speak?! Noblepaw had not known that. And that accent. It was so thick with something, barely understandable. How could a cat butcher normal speech so much? Obviously Demon was not the brightest star in the sky. He fluffed up his fur, annoyed. "We are not little," The apprentice called back, "And we are not far from home. It's you who is far from home; we're still in TreeClan territory." Watching the larger predator, Noblepaw wondered when the best time was to leap down and begin his attack.

Won't let him get us? He's five times bigger than either one of us! Duskpaw wanted to yowl back at Noblepaw, but her fear had paralyzed her vocal cords, but she shook her head, whole body tensed upon the branch, her eyes fixed on the creature that - to her immense surprise - spoke. Perhaps they could reason with it? Demon came near the base of the tree, much to Duskpaw's horror, and she could see how big he was incomparison to themselves - even Noblepaw looked small next to the full grown male lynx.
He was such a strange creature. No tail, that wide ruff on his face and those clear, cruel gray eyes...
"Not leetle? Then mine eyes must be deceiving me, bossy leetle cub." The demon's tone was full of casual humor, as though he had no reason to feel any particularly strong emotion in the face of such an easy lunch. "Come down, bossy leetle cub, so we can tell whether you are leetle or not." |
[/color] drawled the lynx in his thick, foreign accent. Duskpaw's fur fluffed up instantly, and she hissed with more venom than she thought she had. Noblepaw come down? Yeah right! He's not a mousebrain! Go look for food up some other tree! Though she was still very much terrified down to her very soul, the cat's sudden focus on Noblepaw had infuriated her, the she-cat angered that he thought them such an easy meal - not that Noblepaw's contradicting words were any help. "This...TreeClan," spoke the lynx as though the word left a bad taste in his mouth, "They keep poor track of cubs - cubs who are confused, about who owns what territory..."[/color] The lynx could recognize a hot-head when he saw one, locking gray eyes onto green, he threw him a challenging stare, as though willing him to come down in the language Noblepaw understood the most - the language of a fight. Duskpaw, noticing the exchange, eyed Noblepaw reproachfully, terrified his temper would get the best of him. "Don't fight him, he's too big, even for us!" She hissed beneath her breath, nudging him in a desperate attempt to break any thoughts of actually going down there. They would be safe up here until a patrol found them - all they had to do was play the waiting game, Demon would eventually get bored, right? He would eventually have to leave them alone.... [atrb=border,0,true] | sincerely, noblepaw
the road i walk is paved in gold to glorify my platinum soul | [CS=2] The fur along his spine bristled. "I am not little!" He hissed, tail lashing as he repeated the statement. He wasn't! He was almost a warrior, and certainly not little. The monster that was his anger roared inside of him, fighting for dominance and leaving him clinging to shards of his control. It was pleased by the venomous hiss that his companion let out, and Noblepaw's blood began to race. He wanted to leap down there, prove to the lynx that he was not to be underestimated. Noblepaw was the best fighter there was among the apprentices, and he knew that he could definitely take on some of the warriors. Demon had no idea who he was facing.
Yet the small part of him that still had sense regained control for a fraction of a second, and in that instant, everything shifted. The apprentice felt his mind coolling as he looked at the scene from an analytical viewpoint. He was not surprised to note that the lynx was goading him. Noblepaw had seen this tactic before, and ever since the incident with Dawnpaw, he had been focusing on his control. Reluctant as he was to admit, the deputy had had a point: a good warrior never let his emotions take control of him. It was dangerous and risky. And so, he should not let Demon goad him into an attack, not while he still had some control over his emotions. Surely the lynx would be expecting any attack right now. More ready than Noblepaw was to attack. As long as the larger feline did not speak again, he was all set. All he had to do was ig--
"I am not confused! This is TreeClan's territory!" The hiss escaped him again, drawn out by the lynx's poisonous words, which spread through him like the venom they held, leaving behind nothing a burning anger in its wake. First the thing insulted his size, and by extension his skill; then it had the audacity to insult his clan, the best clan in the entire forest. The lynx needed to be shown its place, shown that it was inferior to the might of TreeClan, and luckily he was just the right cat to do that. He would defeat the lynx with a glorious rain of blows, simply overpower the beast until it was cowering in fear and pleading for mercy. He would send Demon fleeing back to where he came from. He would make the lynx forever remember the might of TreeClan and Noblepaw.
The glint in the lynx's eyes only strengthened his resolve. Noblepaw could recognize a challenge when he saw one, and this was showed an obvious doubt at his abilities. It wounded his pride and disgusted him. He was not one to back down from a challenge, especially not one where his pride and reputation was at stake. The monster snarled in agreement, clawing to escape. Over the pounding of blood in his ears, he heard a higher pitched hiss, hasty and desperate. Urging him to see sense. But Noblepaw was too far past that now. The lynx had challenged him. He had to attack. Claws unhooked themselves from the dead branch, and he unleashed himself on the lynx. A fierce battle cry left his mouth as he sprung down at the animal, aiming for Demon's large, ugly head. | [CS=2] Words: 550< Notes: Thanks for taking control of Demon, by the way. | [CS=2] i am the closest thing to god so worship me and never stop [style=font-family: palatino linotype; text-transform: lowercase; text-align: center; font-size; 5px; margin-top: -20px;]credits: don't stop by innerpartysystem cat: here |

A howl of horror peeled out of Duskpaw's throat, "NO! Noblepaw!" her claws snatched at thin air, the gray and white apprentice's tail whipping past her cheek as he lunged straight for the lynx - the fury in his eyes as bright as firelight.
Demon had been ready for him.
Rearing up onto his back legs, Demon slashed downwards right across Noblepaw's face, knocking the gray and white body to the ground, both paws coming to drop down onto his prey, his chuckles drowned out by Duskpaw's terrified wail. "You fell for it, leetle cub. But for bringing such a qwick meal to me, I vill reward the leetle cub with a qwick death!" Ugly face twisting into an even uglier, toothy grin, his paws pressed against the writhing apprentice, holding him down with enough ease that it was humiliating, he lunged for the cat's head - perhaps intending to bite it clean off.
With a furious yowl the likes of which would make her ancestor's proud, Duskpaw launched herself from the dead tree branch, landing, claws first, onto the top of Demon's head, sinking her fangs into his ears and scratching wherever she made contact. "LET HIM GO!" She snarled, tasting Demon's foul blood in her mouth as her fangs tore through his ear when he gave a violent jerk of his head. The lynx lashed out with equal fury, spurned on by the rage that another leetle cub dared challenge him when the other was already set up to become his first snack, Duskpaw feeling the breath knocked clean out of her body as Demon ripped her from the top of his head and flung her back against the tree. Thunk!

[atrb=border,0,true] | sincerely, noblepaw
the road i walk is paved in gold to glorify my platinum soul | [CS=2] The instant Noblepaw's paws left the branch he regretted his actions. Everything seemed to speed up and slow down at the same time, a contradiction he did not focus on. The lynx had been ready this whole time, just as he had thought. Why had he not listened to his previous observations? Red hot and boiling, the anger that had been resising in his gut seemed to wither away and die, shrivelling up in the face of the dread that took its place. The lynx reared up, and he had a moment to stare at its large claws before they connected with his face.
Strangely enough, the pain he expected from the blow did not come. His breath had been thrown from his lungs as his body hit the ground, stunning him, and that hurt more than the actual blow. It was an odd feeling. He could feel the blood flowing down his face, soaking his fur, and the air felt cold on the heat of the open wounds. Swallowing, he forced his eyes open, expecting the worst. He couldn't see! The wet poured into his eyes, blinding him for a moment and causing a brief sensation of panic before he shook his head and his vision returned. Noblepaw's eyes had closed an instant before the large paw had connected with his face, barely able to turn his face away. As it turned out, that slight turn made all the difference; the claws had barely missed his green eyes, leaving both orbs in tact. Said eyes widened as they found his attacker once more.
Get up! Get up! His body would not respond quick enough. It would not keep up with the harsh demands of his mind. He was no longer thinking, just doing, as instinct took over. For StarClan's sake, Noblepaw, GET UP! Struggling to get air back into his lungs, the apprentice started to roll over to get to his feet, as he had landed on his back. However, the motion woke up his nerve endings, jolting them out of their shock. What had once been a slight stinging feeling turned into a wave of pain. Everywhere, all across his face. It stung. It burned. It shook him to his very core. Never before had he felt so much pain! A shriek escaped him, half way between a cry and a whimper. It was animalistic, primal.
The abruptness of the pain caused his legs to collapse beneath him, and he struggled to right himself even more. He had to get away. Escape. Escape. Survive. But he was too late. Large paws pressed down on him, the pressure suffocating yet not bone breaking. Escape. He could barely breathe. The pain was overwhelming. Survive. What did it feel like to be painless? Paws flailed. Jaws snapped. Cries escaped him with out his knowledge. Escape. Eyes widened as they registered the large furry head lunging at him once more. Instinctively he flinched back, the back of his own head whamming against the ground with a surprising force. Survive.
It was instantaneous this time, the pain. Jaws closed in around his head, and the apprentice shut his eyes as he prepared for the ultimate and final action. He barely registered the warm breath stinging his wounds anymore. Teeth dug into the side of his face. His features crinkled into a wince and a grimace. Then something happened. The jaws jerked violently, ripping a cry from his dry throat, before they released him entirely. In his haze he heard a familiar voice cry something. It sounded ferocious. Frocing his eyes open, he recognized the smaller form of a she-cat. She looked familiar... She was helping him.. Dusk.. Duskpaw.
The name brought instant awareness back to him and something jolted through his limbs. The lynx was no longer attacking him. Briefly he recovered his breath and rolled over, forcing his awareness of the pain on his face back into the recesses of his mind. Duskpaw! He had to help her. She couldn't take on the lynx by herself. Limbs moved on their own as he got to his paws and turned just in time to see his companion's small body wham into the side of a tree. It sounded sickening, and his ire returned along with the strength in his limbs. Duskpaw needed time to recover. He wouldn't let her become the lynx's meal, not when she had risked saving him. "Over here, you mousebrain!" He snarled, sounding stronger than he felt. Regardless of his shaking limbs, Noblepaw leapt back into the fray, preparing himself for the worst. | [CS=2] Words: 783 Notes: -- | [CS=2] i am the closest thing to god so worship me and never stop [style=font-family: palatino linotype; text-transform: lowercase; text-align: center; font-size; 5px; margin-top: -20px;]credits: don't stop by innerpartysystem cat: here |

A shape intercepted Noblepaw like a streak of lightning, knocking the apprentice aside in a flurry of golden fur and enormous paws colliding with the flank of the lynx. Duskpaw, barely conscious, felt her breath coming out in shallow rasps, every single one sending a jarring pain into her left side as though something were digging into it, one of her ribs either cracked or fractured from the impact. Noblepaw! She had thought she'd heard his voice - that meant he was okay, right - but the scent of blood, the confusion, her thoughts muddled, vision disoriented and spotty, all contributed to the intense fear flowing from her body like the tide. Was he alright? Where was the beast? She couldn't let him be killed! Trying to get up, the ferocious snarl, the battle yowl of the TreeClan leader Lionstar shook through her being like thunder, a patrol of cats pouring in with hackles raised, driving the hungered monster into a retreat.
Lionstar, his muzzle streaked with blood from where Demon's claws had just barely raked him - his ducking skills having more than likely saved his good looks, not just his life - his own paws hammered against the monstrous cat with needle-sharp claws. Demon, in the presence of the whole party consisting of approximately 4 cats, let out a murderous, frustrated hiss. "You have your Clan to protect you, leetle cubs - but there is always next time." Departing with those ominous words, the lynx took off into the shelter of his own territory, leaving Lionstar, his fur fluffed up with battle fervor, paws soiled with bits of fur and blood, the adrenaline still coursing through his veins. He wheeled around, golden eyes locking onto the mangled face of Noblepaw, and the nearly unconscious Duskpaw - the sense of urgency Noblepaw's bloody face brought on propelling him towards the tom apprentice first. "Longstripe, run back and fetch Spottedfeather! Mintleaf, Littlepaw, see to Duskpaw." Commanded the leader, a striped tom racing off into the bushes at once, while the other two cats ordered immediately sprang into action.

[atrb=border,0,true] | sincerely, noblepaw
the road i walk is paved in gold to glorify my platinum soul | [CS=2] Noblepaw Once again, he was buffetted to the side as soon as he leapt, and he found that he was getting a little tired of this. However it was not a large, clawed paw that shoved him, but rather a large, golden furry body. One that hadn't been there an instant earlier. As he instinctively twisted himself around in the air, landing awkwardly on his paws rather than his side, relief flooded through him. Battle cries, so much more ferocious than his own weary one, filled the air. Effectively doing his job for him, Lionstar's patrol fought off the lynx, but Noblepaw could not find it within himself to feel any annoyance or irritation at that. Unmoving, he stood back, letting the skilled warriors take care of the lynx. He could feel himself shaking and worked on remaining on his paws; Noblepaw refused to be on the ground when the lynx fled.
Luckily, he did not have long to wait. A murderous hiss escaped from the jaws of the predator as Demon addressed both him and Duskpaw, though Noblepaw had a feeling that the message in there was more for him than the she-cat. Green eyes flicked to meet the lynx's. He refused to show the forboding that he felt with the threat, refused to be visibly cowed. "There is always next time," Noblepaw repeated under his breath, voice cold and eyes hard. Next time. When the next time came, he would be ready. It would not be a repeat of his experience. He would train and hone his mind and fighting skills to a point. He would--
But not now. The world had begun to spin, and his face had lit up on fire once more. Noblepaw swayed on his paws, and his legs crumpled beneath him. He saw Lionstar staring at him and didn't know what to do. So he did nothing. All the adrenaline that had been pumping through his body left his limbs sore and his mind tired. "Hello Lionstar," He greeted the leader as he approached, not quite sure what else to do. Noblepaw knew very well that he was not fine, nor did he look it, with the blood all over his face and marks from the various scratches that no doubt littered the rest of his body. Green eyes travelled from the leader to where his companion lay at the base of the tree. A figure ran over toward her, a small one. Even if Littlepaw was the one to do it, at least someone was looking at Duskpaw. He wasn't claiming all the medical attention for his face.
Littlepaw She couldn't help it. Her legs had frozen at the sight of the lynx. It was huge! And those claws had Lionstar and all the full grown warriors dancing around like apprentices. While the rest of the patrol charged ahead without a hesitation in their stride, she tried to work on getting her legs to listen to her once again. When she had done so, the lynx had just let out its ferocious hiss and delivered its threat. Littlepaw's eyes widened, and she could feel the blood leaving her face at the thought of facing off against the lynx. Her horrified gaze followed the fleeing form until the sound of her name broke her out of her thoughts.
When she glanced around at the assorted cats, her eyes were drawn to Noblepaw's bloody mangled face. Disgust at all the blood welled up within her. This was why fighting was bad; chances were that Noblepaw would bear the scars of this single event throughout his life. That thought evidently had not crossed the mind of said tom, as he lay there quietly, almost calmly. But Noblepaw was not her target. Whipping around, she ran over to the collasped form of Duskpaw. Though she did not know the she-cat very well, Littlepaw had interacted with her before; it was a part of being best friends with her sister.
Touching her shoulder gently with her nose, Littlepaw meowed hastily, "Duskpaw, can you tell me what happened? No, stay awake. That's important. You have to stay awake." Since she was not Spottedfeather's apprentice, she did not understand the full medical importance to stay awake; her order came out of a selfish desire to remain in control. Duskpaw was so still... If her eyes closed and she fell into unconsciousness, she would resemble death too much. Beside her, she could sense Mintleaf's presense, and let her take charge.
The warrior looked the apprentice's body over for any signs of blood. "Are you bleeding anywhere? What hurts?" She asked, all business. It was important to get all of this information before Spottedfeather arrived to save time. | [CS=2] Words: 818 Notes: -- | [CS=2] i am the closest thing to god so worship me and never stop [style=font-family: palatino linotype; text-transform: lowercase; text-align: center; font-size; 5px; margin-top: -20px;]credits: don't stop by innerpartysystem cat: here |
