EVERYBODY'S WAITING FOR YOU TO BREAK DOWN
Falconleap, deputy of StoneClan kept a brisk pace as she headed from the camp to the border. A trusted warrior, Hailstrike not far behind and her apprentice Granitepaw right behind her. The border between LightingClan and StoneClan was always fueled with tension, those stupid LightingClan cats couldn't keep their paws on their side of the border. Falconleap's tail flickered angrily as she lead her patrol.
Within view was the border, those warm sun stones called her name to relax on them, however Falconleap had a task and a job to do, that was her focus. "Granitepaw, head up onto those rocks, you can scout out any troubble" Falconleap called to the apprentice, it was an easy task. Simply jump up a few rocks to the top and look out ahead. He was safe enough from the true border and if trouble came, he was within sprinting distance to reach and protect him, not to mention Granitepaw wasn't a fool, he'd either fight back or head for cover, Falconleap had faith in him.
Falconleap moved away from the patrol, heading for the scent markers, she kept her eyes open and her ears almost painfully alert for any cats other than her own. Part of her wanted to be done with the border and head back to camp, but with the faintest scent marker change, Falconleap frowned. "They moved the border, about a tail length into our clan"Falconleap called back to both Hailstrike and Granitepaw. It wasn't yet on the rocks, but with two more tail lengths LightingClan might claim the rocks and that wasn't going to happen as long as Falconleap was alive. She crossed their false border and ventured inward to remark it, this time her hackles raised a little, praying to StarClan for no interactions.

When Blazehawk organized the border patrol that would be padding along the LightningClan and StoneClan border, he'd chosen carefully. No apprentices, just himself, Tawnyleaf, and Sleetshine, and with good reason: the border had been moved as per Emberstar's request, and he was certain there'd be opposition at the border today once StoneClan found out. With a flick of his long, tiger-striped tail, he summoned his Clanmates and made his way along the border, mouth open and tongue tasting the air, waiting for any sign of an enemy patrol. Unfortunately, he didn't have to wait long. Three cats crested the hill on StoneClan's side and Blazehawk turned to his warriors, green eyes narrowed.
"Take cover," he instructed in a quiet mew, slinking into the shadows of the thick brush near the border. His dappled black and red tabby fur hid him from sight in the broken shadows under the bush, and he settled there, muscles tensed and eyes narrowed as he watched the StoneClan patrol trot down the hill towards the flat rocks LightningClan had just claimed. He recognized StoneClan's deputy, Falconleap, and a warrior by the name of Hailstrike that he knew only from Gatherings. An apprentice tailed after them, unrecognizable to the LightningClan tom but meaningless: it meant StoneClan's patrol was outpowered and even if they sent the apprentice for help, the battle may very well be won before they returned with reinforcements. Blazehawk liked those chances. He liked them very much.
Falconleap looked less than pleased at the sight of the moved border, and immediately moved to remark it, positioning the apprentice to keep watch. The moment she crossed the new border he twitched the tip of his tail upwards, gesturing to his Clanmates to make themselves known before he slipped from under the bush, shaking out his pelt and striding over to confront the rival deputy with hackles raised. "Well, well, well," he sneered, head high, the picture of pride with his massive, broad-shouldered frame and tiger-striped fur. "Looks like you're on the wrong side of the border, Falconleap." No matter how much the StoneClan cats fussed and fretted, these rocks belonged to LightningClan and Blazehawk was going to make sure it stayed that way. Unsheathing his long, hooked claws, he sank them into the soft earth, the fur on his spine spiked.
From the look in his sharp emerald eyes, there was no question of how this would end. Fur would be ripped and blood would be spilt, and in his eyes, it would mark the new, expanded border just fine. If Fallingstar knew what was good for her, she would leave it as it were once the news of her patrol's defeat reached her ears. That gangly excuse for a leader was no match for LightningClan's might.
and you thought the world would end if you just looked the other way

Hailstrike padded smoothly behind Falconleap, tail tip twitching lightly as her eyes flicked around, scanning their surroundings for any sign of a LightningClan patrol. She had no desire to meet any of the moorland cats. Apparently thinking along the same track, the deputy sent her apprentice to scout ahead, and icy eyes flicked briefly to Granitepaw. She did not have to worry about him; he was sensible and his perch would give both him and them enough reaction time should anything happen. Eyes followed him for a moment before moving back to Falconleap, who had gone ahead a little ways.
At her call, Hailstrike took a few deep breaths, calming her initial anger, before padding up to join the deputy. Standing on the new border, she looked with disgust at it "Did they really think we wouldn't notice?" She asked of no one in particular, stepping over it like Falconleap had. Something tickled in the back of her mind, almost like a sixth sense, and the fur along her neck bristled slightly as she felt eyes on her. The warrior's own scanned the area again. She could see no one. And then they moved.
Immediately, the LightningClan deputy caught her attention as he padded toward their small group of two. Ice filled her, cold and dangerous, when she noted his unsheathed claws. He meant to provoke a fight, and the she-cat wondered whether he had been waiting there the whole day with his patrol of cats. Probably had. She remained ready to unsheathe her own at an instance's notice, either a signal from Falconleap or an attack from one of the three cats before her. Blazehawk spoke, sneering, in another attempt to provoke a reaction. Hailstrike kept her mouth shut, as the words were obviously meant for her own deputy; instead she surveyed the other cats in the LightningClan patrol, both of whom she recognized from one Gathering or another: Tawnyleaf and Sleetshine.
What did she know about them? Very little, much to her displeasure. Both were just names with a face. As she mentally prepared the battle that would no doubt come, eyes carefully watching the LightingClan cats, the she-cat hoped that Granitepaw had stayed back. Attacking a mousebrained fox when they had the upperhand was one thing - she still could not believe that. However, attacking a LightningClan patrol, who could think and were more dangerous, was another.

TawnyleafThere was a buzz about camp about the moving of the border, about a tail-length into StoneClan territory around the Sun Stones. The plan was to eventually claim them fully, but they were starting with a little at a time. Tawnyleaf could see why. A tail-length wasn’t much, while it was certainly noticeable it didn’t completely call for a fight…. Then again if StoneClan didn’t fight over it now, they should know that it would be inevitable that LightningClan would push the border farther. Thoughts about the strategy of such things ran through her mind as Blazehawk led them out of camp and toward the border. It had only been moved earlier that day… now they were to find out what StoneClan’s thoughts on the matter were.
She followed after Blazehawk’s large form, Sleetshine following as well. They were mostly silent as they traversed their territory, directly toward the StoneClan border. There was tension in the air, almost palpable. They were all poised for a fight. Some of the other cats back at camp had begged to switch places with her on this patrol, they wanted to be there if it came to a battle. But no, Tawnyleaf was quite proud Blazehawk had chosen HER to go with. She would be there to see how StoneClan reacted, be there to help drive them off of their new piece of territory, perhaps even to claim the Sun Stones! Her Clanmates would praise her and call her name if that happened, hers and Blazehawk’s and Sleetshine’s anyway.
Then they were near the border and the scent of StoneClan was strong, a patrol was near. Blazehawk ordered them to take cover. She turned away from the bush Blazehawk headed to for his own cover and hid amongst a patch of high grasses, her tawny fur blending well with the browning stalks. Her eyes remained on the bush Blazehawk was in, waiting for a signal of any sort, whether it be to retreat or attack. When the deputy moved forward to confront Falconleap over crossing the newly made border, however, she followed, unsheathing her own claws so that she would be ready for anything. She stood behind and to one side of Blazehawk, her bright green gaze flitting between the other Clan’s deputy and the warrior standing with her. She knew little of Hailstrike, though she’d seen her at Gatherings. Her gaze moved to the apprentice a bit farther off.
Her eyes widened slightly. She was SURE that was Granitepaw. There were rumors galore surrounding that young cat, he was that he was betrayed by his own mentor who had gone off to join NightClan after spying on StoneClan, or something like that. There were other bits and pieces Tawnyleaf had picked up as well, but she wasn’t sure what all was true and what was blown out of proportion. How she itched to ask him about it all! What was true and how had it all really happened? Her wonderings were so loud in her mind they began to leak into words that spilled from her mouth without her consent as she studied the apprentice, “I wonder how all of StoneClan didn’t realize there was a spy amongst them.” Her ears pricked as she heard her thoughts spoken aloud and glanced around at everyone. Oops. Hopefully they hadn’t heard, it hadn’t been THAT loud… had it?

Granitepaw It felt as though every pawstep he took towards the moved border was carrying him deeper into a fog. It was an invisible kind of fog, the kind of fog that nothing but pure, raw energy that couldn't be seen but felt, not heard of but tasted, and he was doing a great deal of both as he crouched, confident that he was well hidden amongst the stones. His dark gray pelt was doing him a world of favors, though the terrain here was a bit different than he was used to, but that was the least of the young apprentice's problems. I don't want this to turn into a fight. Let's just reason with LightningClan - we-- Thoughts sputtering to a stop, Granitepaw felt his legs turn to jelly as a powerful tiger-striped cat stalked forward with all the ferocity of a LightningCLan warrior - he could only be the deputy he'd briefly heard about, Blazehawk. Terrified of catching the brawny deputy's eye, Granitepaw drew his attention to the other two warriors, trying to block out the frantic staccato his heart was beating against his ribcage, blood rushing in his ears. Unable to recognize the two LightningClan warriors, Granitepaw was starting to feel his confidence waver. They were going up against three LightningClan cats he didn't know - one of which was a deputy who looked as though the Dark Forest had spat him back out. Calm down, calm down. You have Falconleap and Hailstrike. It's going to be okay.
The small, normally timid voice of reason inside his head was unusually strong this time, and Granitepaw stopped his trembling, setting his jaw firm and keeping absolutely still, waiting for any sort of signal from Falconleap or Hailstrike, to fight or flee. He had...neglected to talk to Hailstrike about this earlier, but... He'd never been in a border fight before. He'd never fought a Non-Clan cat. This was an entirely new experience for him, but he was determined to prove his worth to Falconleap and the rest of his Clan. Just stay still. Just stay still and do as your told. A mantra he kept repeating, Granitepaw wouldn't even allow himself to lash his tail with restlessness, instead he kept his eyes trained on the LightningClan warriors, trying to ignore how downright scared the LightningClan deputy made him.
“I wonder how all of StoneClan didn’t realize there was a spy amongst them.”
It was like someone had tossed him into a river full of ice. How does she know?! Wait, she doesn't think that I'M the spy, does she? Complete horror registered on the apprentice's gray and tan face, his whiskers twitching in mortification, Granitepaw almost squeaking with indignation and embarrassment. How did they even know about the Shadeclaw incident? Who told them? Oh he'd flay them, he'd flay them open and leave them to the crows! Foxdung! Cursing inwardly, Granitepaw struggled to get a grip on his emotions, afraid to squeeze his eyes shut and try to find peace for fear they'd attack when he wasn't looking. For the lookout to close his eyes, was, well... ridiculous. Breathe in. Breathe out. Breathe in. Breathe out.
Stealing a glance at Hailstrike for strength, he drew in the powerful look of the she-cat's ice-blue eyes, taking comfort in the fiercely proud she-cat as she remained undeniably cool under some very real, very scary pressure. Granitepaw couldn't help but admire her a little. She wasn't even the deputy of StoneClan, but she was as cool as the river during leaf-fall, not antagonized by the harsh words of Blazehawk or the slip of the tongue from Tawnyleaf. Had he been with Shadeclaw...well...
It was best to just not go there.

SleetshineThe pale she-cat padded after Blazehawk and Tawnyleaf, her head held high as usual, but a troubled look crossed the warrior's face. She wasn't completely comfortable with what her Clan was doing; as an fanatical follower of the warrior code, Sleetshine had some doubts that expanding their territory would bring any good.
Of course, the warrior wouldn't voice her concerns. Sleetshine valued her Clan above everything else, and she knew that her scrupulous nature would fall on deaf ears. That was the reason she tagged along with her fellow warriors, ready to fight if necessary. Pricking her ears, Sleetshine observed as the cats before her halted, and she did so as well. Curiously, the she-cat peeked over her companions' shoulders, a fresh StoneClan scent drifting into her nostrils.
Sleetshine'e eyes narrowed. Tension was high as Blazehawk engaged with the deputy of StoneClan, Falconleap, passing intense words at one another. The white she-cat stepped up cautiously, taking a spot beside Blazehawk instead of behind him, her harsh gaze meeting that of Hailstrike. The warrior's claws extended, sinking into the ground, demonstrating Sleetshine's readiness to fight. If she had any doubts on her face before, they were gone now, for all she wanted to do was show off her skills in a glorified battle.
