From high in the sky, the sun shown down brightly. Clouds had been banished to the far corners of the sky, and the weather was uncharacteristically warm for a leaf-fall day. Occasionally a breeze passed through the stagnant air, refreshing and cool, but it never lasted long. It was an odd day, Brighteyes decided upon re-entering the camp, two mice in her mouth. The warrior tended to stay away from the river as much as possible, though it was rather hard to do so when their camp was an island. She flicked a paw in front of her, spraying water droplets ahead of her. Her thick fur would normally take a long time to dry out, but perhaps she would be lucky with this weather.
Dropping one of the mice on the pile, she took the other and trotted over to a flat rock. A sigh escaped her as she settled down on its warm, dry surface, and she ate the mouse in small bites. Blue eyes strayed to the nearby nursery. She loved kits, everything about them. She enjoyed watching them play, watching them grow up into warriors, their innocence and happiness. They had every quality that almost every other grown warrior seemed to have misplaced, and the she-cat loved them for it. Tail flicking, Brighteyes let out a soft, contented purr. She wanted kits one day, not now, because she wanted to have time as a warrior before becoming a mother, but some day, she wanted to have a family. A happy family.
Having finished her mouse with one last gulp, Brighteyes rested her head on her paws, closing her eyes. The sun's warm rays spread over her, and she imagined that she could feel them drying her fur. Though small, the mouse had satiated her for now. A small part of her mind protested that she was being lazy, that she should go hunt or patrol, do something productive with her time. But that part was easily quelled by the larger section of her mind, which enjoyed the sun and the rest. Brighteyes barely felt it as she dozed off.

The nursery was dark but some light shown through the entrance to the den, lighting it enough for the small kits eyes to see. Shadowkit impatiently waited for Darknight to finish grooming her fur, before she rushed outside to join the others. The light hit her eyes and she was momentarily blinded. She briefly scanned the area, looking for a shady spot. She soon spotted what she was looking for, a nice shady spot on the perimeter of the camp. Shawdowkit sat down and surveyed the camp. The pile of fresh kill was nicely stocked and some warriors were selecting one. She spotted Brighteyes taking a mouse and followed the light-colored she-cat with her yellow eyes. She averted her eyes and looked around some more. Her searching revealed nothing to interesting, so Shadowkit returned to watching. The small kit realized that Brighteyes had fallen asleep. Not wanting to miss an open oppertunity like this, she started, quietly as she could, to creep towards Brighteyes, trying to use the shadows as she went. She got up to Brighteyes and leaped toward the she-cat, using all her might to try to get up onto the rock and on top of her.

Littlekit opened her eyes and yawned. It was warm today and she was glad for her short fur. She stretched her legs and started hopping excitedly as she realized what day it was. Today, she was going to learn how to swim! Launching herself through the nursery entrance in a flurry of white and gray tabby fur, she came to rest a few paces outside the nursery, looking around in delight. It was a leisurely day and the clan was still being relatively well-fed, all their bodies sleek. She glimpsed Brighteyes asleep on a smooth stone.
Seeing as she had no idea who was supposed to be the one teaching her, she decided she might as well ask Brighteyes. she was about to dash forward, when she saw Shadowkit start to stalk closer to Brighteyes, while the she-cat lay rested undisturbed. Littlekit thought about interupting Shadowkit, but decided to just wait and watch the events unfold, after all, Shadowkit was older and bigger than her anyway. She crept forward, crouching low, knowing that her white fur would probably betray her easily.
Her bright blue eyes missed nothing as she glanced rapidly around camp to see if anyone else was around, it seemed that that was not the case. Her mother and father would be resting in the den, but they may come out later. Littlekit hoped Lostwind would see her swimming, he would be so proud.
She flicked her attention back to Shadowkit just in time to see her leap up onto Brighteyes.

...Two little kits bounded around, stumbling over paws too large for their bodies. Clumsy, but completely and utterly adorable in the way that only young cats cat be. One had white fur with a tan streak, and the other was gray, uninteresting in comparison to the other. The gray one was little, but he kept up with the white kit, mewling happily as the white one turned and pounced on him. The two rolled over and over, squealing with delight, paws batting at each other in uncoordinated strikes.
Who were these kits? They didn't look familiar.
Brighteyes moved closer, curious, but she could not get a good look at either of the kits. They kept up a steady stream of action, either tumbling, rolling or pouncing on each other. Without realizing it, she had moved to stand in the middle of their area. Multiple times, the playing kits amost bowled into her, but she moved out of the way, not wanting to interrupt them. They took no notice of each other anyway, their attention completely focused on each other. Giving up and content to let them play, the warrior started to walk away. However, just as she took a step, the white kit shoved the gray kit away, and the little one landed right in front of her. Brighteyes looked down, finally able to see the face. Blue eyes, so much like her own, looked up at her...
Jolting awake, Brighteyes opened her eyes and blinked in the bright sunlight, half of her mind still back in the dream. The gray kit had looked so familar, yet so unfamiliar at the same time... She wasn't sure what had woken her, and looked around. Eyes landed on a small kit, and her semi-conscious mind immediately saw the little kit from her dream.
"Graykit?"
Then she blinked and looked again. No, it couldn't be Graykit. He was dead, long dead, and his fur was lighter anyway. This little kit's fur was obviously a deep ebony color, and yellow eyes looked up at her instead of blue ones. Shadowkit... Her mind supplied the name. Brighteyes smiled and shifted so she could face the youngster better, forcing thoughts of her deceased brother from her mind. Now was not the time... "Hello there, Shadowkit," She mewed, voice different from the incredulous tone with which she had spoken earlier. "You were practicing your hunting skills on me? Well, they're really good, because I didn't even hear you coming!" Of course, that last part was a complete guess on Brighteyes's part, but she could put two and two together.
Giving Shadowkit another warm smile, Brighteyes glanced aroud to see if the young she-cat had any accomplices. Almost immediately, her eyes lit upon the white fur of a crouching kit. Littlekit. It didn't look like she was participating in the pouncing session, but Brighteyes was doubtful that she had made any attempt to stop Shadowkit. Littlekit just sat there, watching. Kits, Brighteyes growled in her head, imitating some of the old and grouchy warriors, No respect these days for warriors. Why, when I was a kit... Brighteyes flicked her tail, still looking at Littlekit with a small smile. "I see you over there. Why don't you join us?" She called gently, tail flicking.

Landing her leap onto Brighteyes, the kit quickly hopped back hoping that Brighteyes would not be too angry with her. Shadowkit grew a bit confused when Brighteyes blurted out the name Graykit. Immediately the a million questions darted through her head that she wanted to ask about this mysterious Graykit. She held her tongue though, for Brighteyes started speaking kindly to her, but her bright blue eyes showed she didn't appreciate Shadowkit's hunting skills.
Realizing she shouldn't have pounced on a warrior, Shadowkit was about to apologize, when Brighteyes called over to Littlekit. Happy to not be the only one that Brighteyes was irritated at, her mood lightened . The she-cat blurted out a quick apology, and made it clear that Littlekit had nothing to do with it. She cast a quick glance at Littlekit, wondering why the smaller kit hadn't interfered with her hunting practice.
The question still in her mind she shifted her yellow eyes toward the white she-cat. Then the she couldn't contain her questions any longer and blurted out, "Who is Graykit? You said her name when I pounced on you. Wait, is Graykit a he or a she? Did you think I was Graykit? Were you dreaming?" Finally out of breath the small cat looked up at Brighteyes, wondering if her questions would be answered.
Other: Littlekit and Brighteyes both have blue eyes! Thats so funny!
